True story. The Monday morning after this movie came out, I went into work and found my boss's house keys on my desk with a note "please feed the cats while we're gone" (which I'd done before but this time no warning.) He called in later in the day with his story: He saw Hook over the weekend. He felt so bad for all of his son's baseball games he'd missed that he packed up the whole family and immediately flew them all to Disney World!

But I'm planning to watch Train To Busan with a friend of mine soon, maybe around halloween time either this year or next year.
I can cry for A TON of movies. Usually those are my favorites. 😅 but I also know different types of crying. Usually it's the type, when I see something heartwarming, beautiful or magical. But there can also be little excitement tears like when I'm so pumped about a soundtrack (like Rocky 4 montage or Twister) or performance.
Very rarely it's a sad cry. Like have you seen Lord Of The Rings? There's a character that dies in the third movie and he's talking to his daughter while he does, I don't wanna spoil too much if you haven't seen it. But it's like, he was dying mid sentence and the last word he says is her name. I don't know, that one always hit me particularly powerful. But I just named that as one example to give you a usual idea of my feelings. But I even got a few tears just typing this case right now. 😅🤭 I just love movies exactly because of that. That terrified, weeping, pirate placed in the boo box was Glenn Close, who played Robin Williams' mother in The World According To Garp, also starring John Lithgow as his best friend. She is also known for The Big Chill and Fatal Attraction, all movies you should see. Smee was the lead human in Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, and I enjoyed his performance in Shattered. Jack appeared in What About Bob? starring Richard Dreyfuss and Bill Murray.
The song sung by Peter's daughter was the only retained from those created for the film when it was still going to be a musical with Michael Jackson as Peter.
This was Gwyneth Paltrow's first speaking role, as young Wendy. She's best known for Shakespeare in Love, and for playing Pepper Potts in the MCU.

I felt like in Peter Pan the moral is that even though the idea of staying a kid is alluring, there’s so much of life that you miss out on if you never grow up. And then the moral in hook is not exactly the opposite but, that if you completely forget and dismiss childhood and everything it means once you’ve grown up you also miss out on a lot of life, such as bonding with and relating to your children.

I love darker and more grownup versions of fairy tales. This version is by far my favourite version, and is a great character piece. It feels routed in human emotion, making it FAR more relatable, and really speaks to an adult audience because with all the politics in the world today, we can often lose sight of what the freedom our old child like imagination once granted us. No other medium teaches morals or life lessons or even the realitys of life quite like the genre of fantasy and Fairy tales. Robin William's performance really sells that moral, as he can act the fool, the fun, and the mature all in one performance. Man what a legend. Dustin Hoffmans Hook is my equivalent to Heath Ledgers Joker. And this is by far one of John Williams best scores he's ever written. Plus, out of all fantasy genres, anything nautical related is soooooo up my street! Really enjoyed this reaction guys, and I'm so glad you found it as powerful as I did when I was a kid, and on a whole new level as an adult.

This is truly my absolute favorite Peter Pan film hands and hook down. I’ve actually been involved in two productions of Peter Pan. The first one was a version that we had wrote based on the book and I was Smee in that one. The second production I did was the actual Broadway production and I was one of the pirates. I recently learned that the moment Peter choose a Thud as his successor, the reactions are genuine. Spielberg and Robin Williams knew who would get the sword and kept quiet about it. So none of the Lost Boys ever knew who would be the successor. At the 25th anniversary, Dante Bosco as well as the other last boys squeeze backed into their lost boy costumes and honored Robin Williams, since he was not there to share a happy moment with them. RIP Robin Williams.

This was originally going to be a musical that had a Christmas Day release date 1985 from Paramount, but production of the movie was halted as Steven Spielberg was too busy working on Oscar nominated epics like The Color Purple, Empire Of The Sun, and Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade. After wrapping up Always in 1989, he finally got to make HOOK. Michael Jackson was considered to play Peter Pan, but dropped out due to scheduling conflicts with his concert venues.
David Bowie, Tim Curry and Mick Jagger of The Rolling Stones were considered for Captain Hook.
Julia Roberts, Tinkerbell, did not like working with Spielberg at all, calling him a "selfish person and a man child who was difficult to work with."
Crew members called her TinkerHELL, due to the onset drama between her and Spielberg.
The movie was a box office success, making $300 million dollars against a $75 million dollar budget. It recieved mixed to negative Reviews by Critics, but has been considered a cult classic.

And the way his son just says "im sorry" after being screamed at is too realistic, I've been that child and ive seen that child too many times that it just hurts watching that scene.
You can see the fear on the sister's face while she watches it happen, I've seen/been that child too. And that's such a hard thing to fake experiencing, there's a true look of fear and sadness on her face.

The backstory of Hook's pre-production is just as interesting as the film itself. Maggie's Oscar-nominated was a remnant of the film's musical score, which included a Broadway show's worth of songs. Spielberg later said he chickened out of taking on the musical genre at the time, but after seeing his successful adaptation of West Side Story, I'm even more interested to see what a musical Hook would be like. So many films are turned into Broadway musicals and are so uninspired, but I could see this being an amazing stage musical. They've been flying actresses in the role of Peter in the musical since the 50s.

I've always loved this movie. I saw this movie in the theater when it first came out with my cousin when we were kids. The first time I watched this movie I didn't see how it ended. The film ended up being damaged, so initially, the last scene I saw was Ruffio and Hook fighting. It wasn't until I finally watched it on VHS sometime later that I even find out that Ruffio is killed by Hook. Definitely one of those WTF?!? moments because it's a bit unexpected. They had given us free movie tickets to make up for us not being able to see the whole movie, but we used them later on to watch the Addams family LOL.
Since you guys have been on this Peter Pan binge you should check out the movie Pan from 2015.

You do realize that's the legendary Dame Maggie Smith-- akak Professor McGonagall-- as Wendy? We're so lucky that not only is she still with us, she's still as busy and brilliant as ever.

Thank you so much for reacting to this. Like many people this was my favourite film as a child and still in my top 10 of all time just for pure nostalgia.
The scene where Peter remembers his past and flies out of the tree will always give me goosebumps and eyes fill with tears. Just all around fantastic!

The tv show Once Upon a Time had a great take on Peter Pan where he was more of a villain and extremely intelligent and manipulative. His lost boys were older and violent covered in scars from “playing”. Pan also moonlighted as the Pied Piper and his song would attract boys who were not loved at home hence being “ lost boys”. Hook was actually the good guy on revenge mission for his brother Pan had killed years before. The show did an incredible job in my opinion writing the character along with the actor Robbie Kay who played him. Cheers guys always have a good time watching your reactions.

JM Barrie also intended Pan as the villain of his own story originally. Hook and Tick-Tock the Croc were added as set decoration for theatre productions and became a hallmark ever since. Also, although it was never confirmed in the novel and play itself it was implied Hook was once Peter`s very first lost boy who discovered a dark secret about Peter, grew up and became a pirate captain for revenge.

@@lilJ4Y10989 A line in the novel and play that suggests Peter and Hook have a traumatic past more complex than just the boy feeding Hook`s hand to a crocodile: "Do not allow that creature to deceive you, men. That may look like an innocent lad but that is no boy, that is a bloody demon!"

There's lots of things in this movie that I love. I'm so glad that you saw the Compass Rose on the ocean, because neverland isn't *quite* real. Another thing I love, at the end, the last line the Lost boys have is 'That was a great game', because they can only view things in terms of games- everything is a game to them.

My then 7 year old nephew watched this with me. He said the boy who said there you are Peter, when he pushed on his face & made him smile should have been the next pan. I always thought so too.

My husband and I went to see this when it first came out and it impacted me. Back in the day of videos, we only purchased a few and this was one of them. I've watched it again a number of times and we still have it. It's one of my all time favorite movies.
