One of the amazing little bits about this film is that the costumes are EXTREMELY historically accurate. The designers went so hard, despite the fact that they were mainly dressing up puppets. Many of the Muppets are flat out wearing Victorian fashion plates from the time, with authentic fabric, and they even went so far as to give Mrs. Cratchit an outfit that was about seven years out of fashion because she was poor.

Love this movie. I just rewatched it last week since it's part of my yearly Christmas watchlist. Gonzo and Rizzo are so funny as narrators. I appreciate that Michael Caine wanted to play the role seriously so it didn't come off like a kids movie. It definitely paid off. 🎄🎅
The deserved an Oscar for the costumes. Most. Accurate. Period. Costumes. EVER!!!! Even Ritzo has every single detail of his costumes right. That is a masterpiece.
I'm so sad some versions cut "When Love is Gone." 1. I'm an alto and appreciate how singable it is 2. It makes the emotion Scrooge and Rizzo show when Belle walks off actually make sense because we see Scrooge becoming emotional 3. Michael Caine was amazing in it, and 4. It makes the end song "The Love We Found," a satisfying reprise. They cut it for the theatrical release, then put it back on the VHS (which I grew up with) and then took it off for some DVDs (my DVD copy has a full screen option with it and a widescreen option without it) and then Disney+ initially had the version without the song but they're finally putting up the version with it. The reasons they cut it make no sense. "Kids will think it's boring." Dude, I was bored by "Bless Us All," as a kid and that's still there. "It's too sad." What, and Tiny Tim dying wasn't? Gimme back my alto power anthem! XD
the reason it wasn't on the DVD was they actually lost the master, and trying to scan it from the VHS was an obvious dip in quality. They found it again in like 2018 or so, so there's a full version in the "extras" on Disney+ and I think the newer-produced discs have it back in as well?
What hits so hard about Kermits speech when talking about Tiny Tim, is that it could also apply to Jim Henson in the first movie to be made post his passing. Life is made up of meetings and partings, that is the way of it. You could interpret it as them mourning the loss of their creator.
What I wish I would 27:09 see in every Christmas carol, is Scrooge seeing Tim’s loss and shout and demand of the spirits “You who waste all this magic on a wretched old man cannot simply wave your hand and extend some miracle to a poor and innocent boy. Cast your chains and drag me to hell with my last request be simply Spare That Innocent Child!!”
If Stella hasn't seen A Muppet Family Christmas she should definitely check it out. It's an old TV special, so it's not well known, but if she loves this she will love that too. (Make sure you watch the full broadcast version, not the DVD, as the DVD removed songs!)
Rizzo fitting through the bars to get is jelly beans is like Roger Rabbit getting out of his handcuffs. He can only do it when it's funny, well I guess...
As with all Muppet movies, I'm in awe from the amazing puppetry. I also really love the songs, (including the sometimes included, sometimes not "When Love Is Gone"), the fact that they use so many lines from the book, the human and Muppet casting, and the set designs. Also, the speech Crachet gives when Tiny Tim dies hits me in the feels everytime.
A couple of Muppet movies to suggest - The Muppet Movie - The Muppets Take Manhattan - Muppet Treasure Island - Muppets from Space I don't think any of them are as deep or heart warming as Christmas Carol, but they're all very wholesome and fun.
Many Muppet characters are new in this movie many of the known characters are from the Muppet show but the bunny character is from the original Muppet babies cartoon the dog in the window at the beginning is sprocket from fraggle rock Jim Henson was very concerned about the environment and so the original fraggle rock addressed that having a wise and all knowing compost heap for example. There is a lot of the Muppet show and some movies on Disney +
One of the things I love with this movie is some details they add that make the story or characters a little better. Example: The Ghost of Christmas Present being forgetful cause he's focused on the present and Beaker giving Scrooge the scarf for his donation.
I love this adaptation, but I also love Scrooged with Bill Murray. If you haven't seen it I really do suggest it. Also, Disney+ has now added back in the missing song "when love is gone"
Disney+ does have it added back in, but when you click on the movie you have to click on extras, and then full length version in order to watch it, otherwise you'll just get the cut version. Just an fyi for anyone who goes to watch it there.
On Disney Plus, as of December 11th (on the 30th anniversary of this movie's release), they included the extended version with the song fully intact in the film which is in the extras section. I saw this movie as a kid when it was on VHS, and it included this song. I found out when I was older that the song was not in the theatrical release.
Me too. I first saw this movie on VHS and whenever it was showing on TV, I always wondered what happened to "The Love is Gone" song? The fact that song was gone made the crying of both Rizzo and Scrooge feel so hollow as that break up had no emotional impact to warrant such a reaction.
The song was cut because Disney executives thought it would be upsetting for young children which is clearly ridiculous and takes a lot from the film. The version with the song, which is still not available on DVD is far better for it being there.
Hey white noise Did you know this was the first thing made by the muppets after Jim Henson died? So that speech about meeting and partings isn't just about tiny Tim........and that fact makes me love the movie more then I thought possible
24:20 The effect of the room going dark and the family disappearing was just them cutting the lights on set and dropping the Muppet set down below where the camera could see it.
Oh yay!! I've been waiting for this all week! I'm a preschool teacher and the children absolutely adore this movie (I always skip past the last ghost though). I taught them the songs "It feels like Christmas" and "Bless us all". Let me tell you that hearing children sing those songs, aged between 2 and 6 years, brings tears and really touches your heart!! I thought it was such a well done movie and Michael Caine was brilliant! Thank you so much for watching and sharing it!! 😘
Michael Caine is definitely a actor that commands a room with his performances. Never satisfied in doing an average job. He always chooses to reach deep inside himself to give the audience more. Otherwise why should or would anyone care about him or any actor for that matter? That to me is what true acting is always giving more than anyone expects from you.
The cut song was called "When Love is Gone" and the song he sings at the end is called "The Love we Found". I think it just has a better impact with the two songs together. They did put the song back in the 30th anniversary edition of the movie.
Muppet sets were usually raised up for the humans to walk on, with space underneath for the Muppeters who would watch themselves on screens to see where they are looking and so on.
This is my #1 Christmas movie as well. Wouldn’t be Christmas without it. I’ve actually got the version with the “The Love is Gone” without even realizing they’d taken it out in others. Child me would have been happy about it but now it’s just so mean that they took out such an important part that the actors worked so hard on. 6:15 watch behind at the nephew. He is just waiting for the show and his shenanigans to make it more funny while also being a snot to his uncle. Also, (sorry) did you know that originally it was Gonzo who was going to play ghost of Christmas future? The scene most people love where Rizzo and Gonzo jump into the backyard was a last minute addition because they didn’t want them to just appear in the backyard. They had no clue that it would be so popular and was surprised about it. God bless their need to do a fantastic job and didn’t hold back.
It's so perfect. I'm glad you guys enjoyed it, it's my favourite Christmas Carol adaptation because it walks the line between comedy, emotion, and straight storytelling so perfectly. Definitely give Muppet Treasure Island a watch next. It's almost as good, definitely as funny, and the songs are just as catchy. The Muppets, Muppets Most Wanted, and the more recent Muppets Haunted Mansion are all also worth checking it.
One of my favorite facts about this movie is that the costumes are about as historically accurate as you can get, even on the muppets. They could have cut a lot of corners in that area and still had it read well on screen, but instead they used actual fashion plates from the time to design the outfits and they dressed every muppet that’s wearing clothes in multiple layers of individually created clothing pieces and undergarments. The level of care and detail they put into it is astounding.
I forget the exact interview, but Michael Caine said that the Muppets were so fun and goofy he decided to play Scrooge as deathly serious to bring out the contrast.
The 2009 animated Christmas Carol with Jim Carrey as Scrooge is also a good adaptation of the book, but as for Muppet movies, the Treasure Island adaptation is great!
I agree it’s a good accurate adaptation, including some parts even the muppets left out because it’s too creepy/scary. But I also think they leaned too much into slapstick comedy. It doesn’t have the balance muppets Christmas carol has.
@@johnd7862 The animation holds up if you take into an account and compare it to the same technique used in The Polar Express (2004), as both use motion capture, and there is a clear improvement. It isn't a pure animation in that sense.
Not only was this the first muppet production after the passing of Jim Henson, muppet performer Richard Hunt had also just passed after a battle with AIDS.
The Muppet Show was a variety show on TV with human guests just like other variety shows of the time. So the Muppets have always interacted with humans.
There are a lot of good Muppet movies, but I think my all time favorite puppet is from Little Shop of Horrors (It took 25 to 30 people to operate in some cases). Really good movie if you have never seen it. The Muppet Movie from (1979) is excellent and gives you a background on a lot of characters. Muppet Treasure Island has one famous actor, don't want to spoil. Anyway, definitely check some out.
My favourite Muppet is Miss Piggy. She’s funny. I do a great impression of her. When my son was a toddler he would say “Mum be miss piggy” whilst sitting in his bath. He laughed so loud. Great memories. Thanks guys!💕 My best present was a yellow BMX bike in 1984.
Thank you so much for doing this one! I've been a fan of the Muppets since I was a kid, and this is my favorite of their movies. Michael Caine is perfect in this, and he flawlessly interacts with puppets like they're real people. It's delightful!
Disney Streaming is now showing the movie with the deleted scene "The Love Is Gone" sung by his fiancée, Belle.Which is a great 'bookend' to Micheal Cane's " The Love We Found" which ends the movie. If you were lucky to own the first DVD they released, it features "theatrical & TV version, pan&scan (cropped on the sides) has the deleted scene incorporated back into the movie. They had recently found the widescreen print this year. MUPPET WIZARD OF OZ also is closer to the novel than any other adaptation on film. Adding all 4 witch siblings.
One of the things I love about adaptations is the little touches people add, like in this where Scrooge tries to join in on the game at his nephew's and goes "I said it first". When I was in a play adaptation, the charity collectors met some kids outside of Scrooge's business. The kids tell them they'd have better luck with Marley giving a donation. Also, this Ghost of Christmas Past is probably the best one I've ever seen.
Well done noticing the candle being blown out on your first watch through. The Henson company is constantly doing little things like that. We call it “showing off” in our house. Many of them so subtle that we missed them for years.
I’m so excited that you are watching this one! It is one of my favorite Christmas Carol adaptations. My other favorite is the Disney version featuring Scrooge McDuck, Mickey Mouse and other characters. You should check out that one too!
This Christmas Movie Never fails to make me smile. It's the same with "Muppet Treasure Island", but my Favorite Jim Henson movie will always be "Labyrinth".
This is one of my favourite Christmas films of all time, I loved this reaction! Stella’s joy for this was infectious and completely relatable- and James’ comments were so great, the one at the end about Tiny Tim ‘getting trampled’ was hilarious. I recommend Christmas with the Kranks - such a funny movie. Merry Christmas to you all! Xxx
So to the girl on the left who has watched this movie since she was a kid. I have too and now me and my kids watch this movie every year. And it was so sweet to see your face tear up the same time mine was. Im glad youre out there and thank you all for doing this. I cannot believe the rest of you have not seen this until now. You must now pass this along.
Fun fact: According to Brian Henson, the shot where Kermit closes and locks the door was honestly the MOST difficult shot in the film of trying to get Kermit hand to close and lock a door.
This is a great movie, definitely my second favorite version of Christmas Carol, and has a great introduction of Scrooge and a good soundtrack, but if I have to be honest the best Christmas Carol adaptation is the 1980s version staring George C Scott. That one is a great film and deserves to be seen and talked about more
I'm so glad you watched this! Yes, there are some bits that are left out or simplified, but the majority of the dialogue and Gonzo's narration is directly from the book - that, combined with Michael Caine's acting and the amazing attention to period detail makes this one of the most accurate adaptations. I highly recommend reading the book if you haven't, or haven't lately - it is full of such wonderful descriptions! My family often takes turns reading it out loud around Christmastime, because it works so well told out loud.
I remember being so relieved seeing Gonzo and Rizzo when the ghost of Christmas yet to come came on screen and then they left! They were like bye we're out 😭😭😭 felt so betrayed lol
Even though they're all enjoying it, you can literally see the difference in the girl on the left-side (first time watching the channel, sorry I don't know names). You can see her being transported back into her childhood self watching it again and it's so cool witness, you can literally see it in her face. I also grew up with this as my definitive Christmas movie and know how she feels. Glad everyone liked it and happy holidays!
Not sure if you watched the new Disney Plus version with the missing musical number that was restored after 30 years after being deemed "too sad"..., "When Love is Gone". Guessing not cause no one mentioned it.. it fills in a big plot hole and gives a reason for the final song "The Love We Found"
They cut the when love is gone song because it was the only song without a muppet in it. And they didn't think it would keep kids attention. It was on my video copy as a kid so when I transitioned to dvd and it was gone I was very annoyed. U can now watch it on disney plus. The full uncut movie is in the extras.
What is your favorite Christmas present you ever recieved?
A ballet tutu.
Probably the talkboy tape recorder Kevin had in Home Alone 2. It was the coolest thing to me as a kid.
A GameCube and the original Animal Crossing game back in 2002 I believe.
A Tetris light; each piece of Tetris can be rearranged into an style you want and it lights up, just as so as piece are placed together properly light up
A cuddly dolphin.

Love that Michael Cane said he would do it but only if he could do it super serious.
It's sad that this was the first Muppet movie after Jim's passing... but you have to admit they did him proud.
Agreed, but unfortunately Steve Whitmire was fired recently and his replacement sounds nothing like Kermit
If you want to watch more Muppet stuff, Muppet Treasure Island is another great movie
Ok great!!!
Yes, Treasure Island was my favorite Muppet movie
The original muppets movie, and the muppets from 2011 are also great films.
Congratulations you're the lucky winner of the ongoing giveaway text me on telegram to claim your package..... 🎁
But the only way to watch the Full Broadcast version is on RUclips though. I forgot a DVD did come up, but I did hear they remove songs.
And Mr. Willowby's Christmas Tree!
A couple of Muppet movies to suggest
- The Muppet Movie
- The Muppets Take Manhattan
- Muppet Treasure Island
- Muppets from Space
I don't think any of them are as deep or heart warming as Christmas Carol, but they're all very wholesome and fun.
Agreed on all of these
You left out _The Great Muppet Caper_ , which i would include before _Muppets From Space_ any day
@@christopherwall2121 I haven't seen that one. I'll have to check it out as well!
@@aaronthesaxman660 It is probably the purest comedy out of all the Muppet movies, just a total anarchic farce from top to bottom
@@christopherwall2121 Muppets from Space gets a bad rep but it's not that bad
Many Muppet characters are new in this movie many of the known characters are from the Muppet show but the bunny character is from the original Muppet babies cartoon the dog in the window at the beginning is sprocket from fraggle rock Jim Henson was very concerned about the environment and so the original fraggle rock addressed that having a wise and all knowing compost heap for example. There is a lot of the Muppet show and some movies on Disney +
The Ghost of Christmas Past in this movie is my absolute favorite film version of the first of the three spirits who visit Scrooge.
Love how the world is both big enough and small enough to accommodate the two races, Muppet and man.
One of the things I love with this movie is some details they add that make the story or characters a little better. Example: The Ghost of Christmas Present being forgetful cause he's focused on the present and Beaker giving Scrooge the scarf for his donation.
😂
my favorite all-time Muppet adaptation is Muppet Treasure Island, with Tim Currey as Long John Silver!
This is SO exciting. I cannot wait to watch. I recommended the film to my 12 year old nephew who is reading 'A Christmas Carol' at school.
Me too! It's such a wonderful movie!
I still have my VHS copy
The version with the song, which is still not available on DVD is far better for it being there.
to awnser your question in the title. this is, in fact, the BEST adaption of "A Christmas Carol". :)
Hey white noise
Did you know this was the first thing made by the muppets after Jim Henson died? So that speech about meeting and partings isn't just about tiny Tim........and that fact makes me love the movie more then I thought possible
This might just be the most wholesome reaction video I’ve ever seen. I love it!
Aww thanks :)
If you're interested in more Muppets, my favorite is Muppets treasure island. Highly recommend
Yes they literally filmed the Ghost of Christmas Past in a water barrel.
I just love how excited Stella is to show her friends one of her favorite movies. So precious! ❤
Another great Muppet Classic is Muppet Treasure Island
24:20 The effect of the room going dark and the family disappearing was just them cutting the lights on set and dropping the Muppet set down below where the camera could see it.
Thr BEST version! No matter how many times I watch it I keep finding little jokes throughout the film. Love this one!
Oh yay!! I've been waiting for this all week! I'm a preschool teacher and the children absolutely adore this movie
(I always skip past the last ghost though).
This version, if you can believe it, quotes more of the text from the original story by Dickens than any other movie. It's still the best IMO.
Love the muppet Christmas Carol
I would recommend two holiday film would be Mickey's Christmas Carol and A Muppet Family Christmas that aired in 1987
oh my goodness please react to Muppets Treasure Island. Its SO GOOD and SO FUNNY
Scrooge's sister Fan wasn't mentioned or shown in this movie. But her son, Fred did appear.
The cut song was called "When Love is Gone" and the song he sings at the end is called "The Love we Found". I think it just has a better impact with the two songs together. They did put the song back in the 30th anniversary edition of the movie.
Stella is a delight in all of you guys' reaction videos. And this happens to be my favorite Christmas movie also.
🥰🥰🥰
I never not tear up at Robin as Tiny Tim. Puppets in general make me happy cry and I don't even know why, I find it hilarious/embarrassing.
Muppet Treasure Island is one of the best Muppet movies. Remember seeing it in theaters, so much fun!
@@TheAstralNut yes 😊
Treasure Island was definitely my favorite Muppet movie
One of my favorite facts about this movie is that the costumes are about as historically accurate as you can get, even on the muppets. They could have cut a lot of corners in that area and still had it read well on screen, but instead they used actual fashion plates from the time to design the outfits and they dressed every muppet that’s wearing clothes in multiple layers of individually created clothing pieces and undergarments. The level of care and detail they put into it is astounding.
I forget the exact interview, but Michael Caine said that the Muppets were so fun and goofy he decided to play Scrooge as deathly serious to bring out the contrast.
11:20 They split the role into two people and gave it to Statler and Waldorf so they could make a Bob Marley joke.
The 2009 animated Christmas Carol with Jim Carrey as Scrooge is also a good adaptation of the book, but as for Muppet movies, the Treasure Island adaptation is great!
This
I agree it’s a good accurate adaptation, including some parts even the muppets left out because it’s too creepy/scary.
Agreed I love the cut song and the final song doesnt make sense without it
Stella is my spirit animal. She's awesome
Thanks guys!💕
My best present was a yellow BMX bike in 1984.
Every year around Christmas time, our family watches this, Elf, and National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. It doesn't feel like Christmas if we don't.
Thank you so much for doing this one! I've been a fan of the Muppets since I was a kid, and this is my favorite of their movies. Michael Caine is perfect in this, and he flawlessly interacts with puppets like they're real people. It's delightful!
Scrooge: A Christmas Carol. It's on Netflix. Be warned it is a musical and Luke Evans plays Scrooge.
Congratulations you're the lucky winner of the ongoing giveaway text me on telegram to claim your package..... 🎁
Congratulations you're the lucky winner of the ongoing giveaway text me on telegram to claim your package......, 🎁
Yeah, it’s just fascinating how they pull it all off
Oooh Klaus! If you have time, another utterly phenomenal Netfkix Christmas movie is "Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey"
The muppets are very amazing, i just love it.
I would love to see you 4 react to White Christmas! I love that movie!
This film has the following it does for good reasons
I’m so excited that you are watching this one! It is one of my favorite Christmas Carol adaptations. My other favorite is the Disney version featuring Scrooge McDuck, Mickey Mouse and other characters. You should check out that one too!
“Spirit, whose grave is this?”
“It’s yours, Ebenezer Scrooge! The richest man in the cemetery!”
I agree, Mickey's Christmas Carol is excellent.
This Christmas Movie Never fails to make me smile. It's the same with "Muppet Treasure Island", but my Favorite Jim Henson movie will always be "Labyrinth".
lived and breathed this movie as a child 💜💜
Also YES this film is BIG on the abuse of Rizzo 🤣🤣
I use to have this movie on VCR when I was younger, like maybe in grade school, and watch it on December every year.
Congratulations you're the lucky winner of the ongoing giveaway text me on telegram to claim your package....., 🎁
"If you liked this, read the book". A perfect ending to this great adaptation.
I love this move even as a adult the song bless us all still makes me emotional and Michael Caine getting emotional is just great acting 😊😊😊

The girl on the left is named Stella and the one on the right with Glasses is Hayley.
@@EChacon Thank you!
Fun fact: According to Brian Henson, the shot where Kermit closes and locks the door was honestly the MOST difficult shot in the film of trying to get Kermit hand to close and lock a door.
Yup, this is indeed the best version
They were like bye we're out 😭😭😭 felt so betrayed lol
all the muppet movies are super well done- and growing up with them I have and still do love them a lot- I think you'd really like them!
Muppets Treasure Island is a must, with Tim Curry
Yesss
Not sure if you watched the new Disney Plus version with the missing musical number that was restored after 30 years after being deemed "too sad"..., "When Love is Gone". Guessing not cause no one mentioned it.. it fills in a big plot hole and gives a reason for the final song "The Love We Found"
They cut the when love is gone song because it was the only song without a muppet in it. And they didn't think it would keep kids attention. It was on my video copy as a kid so when I transitioned to dvd and it was gone I was very annoyed. U can now watch it on disney plus. The full uncut movie is in the extras.
