I love the music:) It always accentuates the film so beautifully:) This Rollright stone circle is just lovely...the imperfections are what make it so magical:)
That was great fun, thank you! Loved the bonging music with a groaning cello. The stick bit was hilarious. Stukely was certainly a diminutive fellow, even in his great wig. Chipping Norton would be the etymological twin with Norrköping, Sweden, I think.
Re builders of Stone megalithic circles I have a friend who says its just that the builders of no 1 had some stones left over and started the well known practice of knocking on local doors or those down the valley with the time worn phrase, ' we were just doing some work up the road and have some (insert era suitable product) left over and noticed that......' Hence they moved slowly round western europe esp the British Isles. They now tend to be asphalt layers.
First visited the stones in the late '70's. The site was privately owned by Pauline Flick, a nice old lady who sat inside a hut at the site entrance and collected an admission fee. I have a feeling that at that time there were no hedges and the site was open to the road but for a fence ... Might have been worth mentioning the Anglo Saxon girl's burial found about 4 years ago near to the King's Stone - an unusual burial because amongst the grave goods was a bronze patera.
First visited in the late 80's and a guy was there as a custodian in a small building if I remember right,an interesting guy who told us some of the strange goings on connected to the site. Met a family there and had an interesting conversation with the grandmother who knew scientists investigating crop circles, the next day saw my first crop circle in the farmers field opposite the entrance to West Kennet Long Barrow near Avebury.
I always love your shows. I saw a video with Tony Robinson walking across Britain. He showed a rock “sculpture” called The Spinx. Have you guys talked about it? I would like to hear your take. It’s hot in Texas too
It’s funny how archaeologists laugh at stories from history but are so quick to wrap independent facts into a proposed story of what happened in the past. They then get so attached to those stories that when a new fact comes along they dismiss it until ten years later the evidence is so large they have to let go of the old paradigm.
What if the stones were meeting place where families got together and each of the stones was brought there by each family and it is what they sat in front of for the entertainment. Probably not, considering the competitive nature of humans. It would soon turn in to who has the biggest rock contest.
The fact that not one archaeologist has advanced a convincing theory on how these megalithic sites were erected speaks volumes to their general lack of understanding of what ancient people were capable of achieving. These archeologists then further seek to cover their ignorance by suggesting that almost every site of standing stones must have had a ritual aspect to it. The field of archaeology today is largely filled with effete hippies who are often adored with coloured hair, face piercing and tattoos. They generally lack any appreciation of practical knoweledge in terms of physical work or basic construction techniques. Their practical field archaeology experiments have proven that a group of 30 teenagers can haul a 1.5 ton boulder some 50 meters over short-cut grass. This is roundly acclaimed as being how the ancients constructed Stonehenge. This experiment proves very little. Let's see them do this with much heavier loads over much longer distances, dragging the boulders over undulating land that is covered with rough grasslands. Not to mention the extreme difficulty of getting extremely heavy loads across rivers without the banks collapsing or the rafts tipping over. Archaeology is such a soft subject that it attracts a lot of dolts who are unable to think for themselves and who just regurgitate the same old tired theories. And if someone should advance a theory that does not fit with the prevailing paradigm, then they are ridiculed and will not receive any further funding. Which leads to everyone within academia protecting their position by falling in line and maintaining the agreed narrative. This is why our understanding of megalithic sites has remained largely stagnant and has become bogged down with the old tired chestnut of ritual. This closed mindset, which grips academia in general, fails innovation and advancement of our understanding because maverick theories are all too readily run out of town by the peer review process which in turn affects what is published in academic publications. Everyone must be on point or face becoming an academic pariah.
I was there not long ago and there was no money box, no path and I have photos to prove it. Just a small lay-by and short path through scrub. Bitterly cold i nearly froze to death. Those witches? Lu
"Standing With Stones" is such a good video. But this unrehearsed, rambling, almost pointless (except to state and restate a negative ad infinitum) is so bad... I am very disappointed.
Thanks for the heads up; I'm 6 minutes in and was wondering if anything of worth was going to happen. I'm tapping out and watching 'Standing with Stones' instead.

The organic material usually found in the stone pits are cremation remains or coal.
We all must agree to stop calling them stones and start calling them kilos.
