Hi Elin - Thank you so much for sharing my story! You have been an inspiration to me as I have been on this decluttering journey for some time now. I think it is important to see how some of our past experiences shape how we collect things. I love your advice and it has helped me to stay consistent on my decluttering journey and striving for more balance. Even just recognizing that my loss was still impacting me helped me so much. Thank you again and I look forward to hearing more stories from this community! ❤❤❤
Thank you so much for sharing! It was a story that hit me hard, and you talked about it with such thoughtfulness and insight. Thank you. I’m really grateful.
I too went through a house fire. It is a horrible experience. My problem now is dealing with items I saved when my mom passed. We had just gotten them home, sold what was left in an estate sale and took a little break when my mother-in-law passed. Yes, both mothers in 4 months. We put everything in our garage and said, "We'll deal with it later." We would have 2 more funerals the next year as well as other issues such as a job loss and health issues to face. Those items are still in my garage, but now my husband has passed, my daughter got married and last year I was diagnosed with cancer. My health, ironically, is better now than its been in years, but I've got all this stuff to face, so I'm making appointments with myself every day to sort through it all. When you see something that takes more than 15 minutes, you need to call it a project and list each task to do in that project. Do 1each day and you'll see the light at the end of the tunnel -- and it won't be an oncoming train!
These are pretty much the same emotions we went through when we had to evacuate due to the hurricane.🥺 Thankfully nothing was destroyed but that feeling of fear is so overwhelming... What a powerful story! Thanks for sharing 🤗💝
This was a powerful video. Jennifer’s story was so inspiring and your compassionate comments were so insightful. I am really enjoying the personal experiences of your followers. Take care Elin.
What a beautiful story, Elin and so calmly and thoughtfully read by you. Jennifer’s experience is such a devastating and yet truly inspirations one, which offers others some useful tips on how to move forward. Forced loss such as this can be very trapping emotional and often takes a lifetime to fully process, but the fact that Jennifer chose to move forward and not remain stuck in the grief of her loss is wonderful. I hope she is really proud of herself. 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻
You are so sweet to say that and so happy that my story may inspire others on their journeys. It has truly been so helpful to be a part of this community and gain amazing tips and motivation through Elin and all of you!!! 💗💗💗
I really appreciate the stories you have shared, I've related to many of the issues brought up. I too am just in the beginnings of a cleaner and simplified life, guess you can call it my mid-life fulfillment! TFS❤️
What got me in this story that Jennifer lost all her belongings and pets in the fire. It was hard for her to loose her STUFF! Thankfully all family members were ok…. In our family our pets are family members as well. If I would loose my dogs in the fire I would be devastated and I wouldn’t care about STUFF! Even sentimental items. I do not want to be mean because it was horrible experience and I feel sorry that this happened to Jennifer but for me, the way the story is written, it sounds like STUFF is more important than anything else.
Agnes - I tried to write my story in a way that showed how losing all of my “stuff” impacted me on my declutter journey - I was not writing about my grief on losing my beloved pets or the home I lived in my entire life. The loss of my pets was devastating and I still miss them and this was 25 years ago. It’s unfortunate you feel the need to pass judgement on someone that was being vulnerable and sharing something personal in the hope it might help someone else.
@@jenne7405 Jen I apologize and I did not mean to judge you but after hearing the story that was my first impression since you said that you lost your belongings and pets but all family members were ok and then you were talking about having hard time loosing material things and you did not mention anything about pets. Probably that was the first thing which came into my mind because of the way the story was written. I apologize again!
You have truly inspired me and your videos are very encouraging. And I’ve been paying attention to my emotions more when it comes to eating and shopping and my current struggle right now is I love shoes and I like to have shoes that are heel shoes that are flat shoes for the winter shoes for the summer And I’m trying to challenge myself because I made a goal that I wanna travel and that that shopping was getting in the way of travel and I’m trying to challenge myself this winter to use what I already have and not buy nothing new and I’m struggling because I like to have a variety of shoes for my moods my mood of dressing up my mood of feeling comfortable
Try decluttering 10 things today, 15 tomorrow, and so on... is an ongoing process. I'm about to take my own advice as I too am exhausted with keeping up with the "stuff"
It's hard. I always said I can start decluttering WHEN. I'm now 19 years into motherhood with another 9 to go. I have accepted that while the first few months, and to a lesser extent, the first 3 years of a child's life, are very demanding, we just have to accept that we can be in 3 states: getting worse, keeping steady, or getting better. My best advice to you as a mother with young children is to fiercely protect against getting worse, and to declutter as you live. The second your brain says, " I don't need this in my house" put it in a designated space for outgoing things. You probably don't have time to massively declutter in this time of your life. Try to tread water, but be gentle with yourself when needed - and rest - but if you notice an area of your home or life that is causing problems due to clutter, try to target that a little at a time.
Im in the same season but this is baby #8 have a goal what needs to go smoothly that will help you when you have the baby. Purge your kids clothes first get rid of what they out grown or not in season or store only what you need. Makes laundry less work and easier. Second Declutter what you don't need or don't use or too many duplicates in the kitchen. Buy a whole month of paper plates/plastic cups/plastic spoons this is a gift to your self to have more time to relax and enjoy motherhood. Have a big box or trash bag for donation only let everybody know what they dont you want anymore this is its new home. Trash or Declutter 15 min a day will help a lot baby steps.
