Some things I appreciate about your channel: Your calmness, relevant info, not tons of editing, the way it seems you are speaking directly to the viewer. 🌻🌿🌻
So true, many RUclipsrs, keep editing after every word, like they are reading from a script. But she doesn't, she's so calm and speaks directly to the audience
For me, I had more stuff when I was poorer. Now that I have a little more money (not a lot but enough to pay my instalments comfortably), I feel more comfortable to let stuff go. Because I know I can afford to replace it if need be. That’s it. I think rich people can afford minimalism.
I have a school clothes shopping date with my grandkids tomorrow but as I lay here listening to you speak I made a decision. Before I pick them up I am going to empty one piece of furniture & list it on marketplace. It’s a beautiful piece purchased at a decorator’s auction but also it has never fit my decor style. It’s time to let someone else enjoy it. It’s a start & a decision I wouldn’t have made an hour ago. Thank you 😊
I recently learned that no. 2 is called a Diderot Effect - obtaining a new possession often creates a spiral of consumption which leads you to acquire more new things.
I moved from a large house to a twin home some years ago, which necessitated a large cleanout. I still had a garage full in my new home. After settling, I had a garage sale each spring with friends where our proceeds went to a family in need. That was a great motivator for us to clear out our extras.
I love listening to you. Thank you for all of your insights. They really go beyond the others videos. My issue is I have my adult daughter (a 2 stroke survivor) and my 98 yr old mother living with me. We have decluttered my daughters stuff to her room. ( She will never be able to live alone again) but my mother had a 3 bedroom brick home with 2 attics packed. I moved her in 4 years ago. Her stuff filled my 2 car garage plus a storage room. Clutter does stress me. We have gone through the bulk of it but her things have found itself through out my home. It is so hard to stay motivated. I started this minimal journey 1 year ago and feel like not much has been accomplished even though I see how much has left the house. If I could just get a weekend or a few days alone I would probably be able to finish going through everything. I try not to put so much humm..Humm... not criticism but negative thoughts in order to stay above water. I don't want to sink. I'm rambling so I'll quit. Thank you again.
If is an interesting word. If only I could……but time moves, life is not static. There could be some free days for you coming up, but really, what you have accomplished is great, there is no timeline. You sound to me like you are handling a really tough situation very well.
Hi Michelle, life has certainly thrown you lots of challenges and you must be an amazing lady to cope with all of this. When you care for others it is essential that you care for yourself first and foremost as you need to keep yourself mentally, physically and emotionally strong in order to look after others. Elderly people can be incredibly selfish sometimes ( even those we love very deeply) and I am guessing your mother is being stubborn about holding on to certain things which is really not fair on you at all. I would aim to make her room/s as streamlined as possible with a few keepsakes but everything else I would box up and put aside. Concentrate on having your house as clean and clutter free as possible with everything else boxed up in one place. After a while you may discover that everyone has forgotten these things even existed and realise they are not required. So many other people could be making good use of them so I would donate them as soon as you can. Your mother and daughter are incredibly lucky to have you but you deserve to have a life which is as easy as possible for you and if this means letting go of sentimental items then so be it. It is utterly exhausting trying to clean around clutter so hopefully you have someone who can help give you a few days to clear it all out for good. Sending love and best wishes x
I think you are doing an incredible job. I would just relax if I were you and not stress too much about decluttering. Just watch the videos for enjoyment and store the information for when you can apply it. Conditions in life change over time, they really do, so do what you can, but if that is nothing at all for now, so what. No one is judging you.
Hi ,i did start my journey towards minimalism.First i was following Minimal Mom and ater that i have seen several minimaisers.I really enjoy your videos your so down to earth kind of person.
One of my favourite Gandhi quotes has become my mantra for decluttering and simplifying my life: "Live simply, so that others may simply live." Simplifying my life is freeing up space, time, energy and stuff that I can now use to help others in many ways. Thanks for a great video!
I love that quote. I saw a sign once in a home I was visiting with that quote and a drawing of a seal. I've always wished I could find one like that to remind me daily.
This really resonated with me. I'm very cerebral in the sense of wanting to understand why people (including myself) do the things we do & what it takes to change things in our life. Your insights are helpful to me in my decluttering journey, on the path to a simpler, less stressful & more meaningful life. Thank you!
I did a psychology degree, graduating in the late 2000s. Undergraduate, not masters or a PhD but every time you use a psych term I've long forgotten, there's an ah-hah! moment where it kinda comes back to me and I find myself missing the days when I remembered so much more. I was battling a chronic illness hrough my degree, and before and after and still, so just getting through it was more than enough, I didn't have the capacity to retain all that information beyond exams but of course, it's stored in my mind somewhere.. I hope. Minimalism has been a long term lifestyle for me, beginning when I moved out of home at 18. It especially helps with managing chronic illness, as you would understand. I appreciate your psychological approach to understanding patterns of consumer behaviour, etc, so any links, definitions or references to that content is much appreciated.
This was amazing, really making me think about my life the "believe in your own human capacity" marked me. Tks again for sharing your wisdom. Keep going, you are great at this ✨
My mother, who is a hoarder, decided that I needed a collection. LOL. She buys me a particular Knick knack every year for Xmas. I decided that to handle this unwanted item, I would keep it 6 months out of respect for her then I declutter it. Oh and I take it to a thrift store that she doesn’t frequent so her feelings don’t get hurt.
Hey Aline, what you spoke about today really resonated with me, I find you really calming to listen to and felt like I was just across the table from you, I also really like the music at then of the video 👍😎😊
I have a question that I’ve been battling that is hindering me from letting go of certain things. I noticed and I don’t know if anyone else notice that the things that used to be available pre-Covid or no longer available. What do you say to holding on to things that cannot be replaced even if it is a pair of shoes or a pocketbook. Because the quality of clothes the quality of items that they’re selling now are not made the same. What is your perspective on holding on so you won’t need to purchase it later
I also intuit that age constitutes a factor in most, maybe all, of these points. Needs must and all that! Don't know if the research (if there is any) backs it up?
My why is : I need to allow my future to show me what I can have do and be and not allow my stuff to tell me who I am and what my life should look like.

Whoever is telling EVERY minimalist to say "the last one is the best/most/greatest" to get people to watch to the end, please stop! It's so transparently about marketing and not that the best is really last. It's a straight lie, in fact.
Telling yourself that it doesn't have to all be done perfectly is the most helpful thing to me
I definitely agree when you start buying that you keep wanting to buy. Its an addiction. Once I stop buying things i feel more content.

I am destashing a craftroom! Wow! Talk about a challenge but it feels good!
Clutter also happens as an avoidance tactic to an emotional trauma
It sure does. That's what happened to me.

Just found your channel, I love this wholistic approach to clutter - totally spot on about the confidence to change 🙏🙏
I would really be interested in seeing a video showcasing other minimalist content you yourself enjoy to help keep you motivated on your journey. 🙂

My confidence was at about 7 or 8, until i remembered that i have 4 big bookcases tightly jampacked full of books. Sigh.
My why is : I need to allow my future to show me what I can have do and be and not allow my stuff to tell me who I am and what my life should look like.
I know this sounds lame, but I declutter when I take time off of work, sell items and donate.
