Wow, that's nice to hear. I hope a lot of people can see this comment and they'll be inspired to do the exact same thing as you did. By not rushing things out, everything is possible. Just like what you've done - by taking things slow, you can save yourself from financial burden.
When I'm considering buying something, I ask myself "where will this live?" If I don't have a specific place or room for it, I reconsider. Now if it's something I feel I really want, I ask myself "what can I let go to have this particular item?" These two questions have helped me in the past year or so (still kind of new on this journey).
Do I need this? Do I love this? Do I use this? Those are the mantras I use. These principles and minimalism have made my life so much more peaceful! My clothes fit into my closet with room. My dishes fit nicely into my cabinets. One dish washer load washes the dishes for my family of six!
For a long time, every time I brought something into my house I took a box out for donation. It l made a huge difference and got me started on minimalism.
I’m so proud of how I’m coming home with no bags!!! I stop, think, be honest with myself and I just walk on. I shop but really don’t mind not buying…. I imagine my neat uncluttered house and just smile ☺️☺️☺️☺️
God job on that progress! You really are going to do good in your finances and it starts now. Your journey to be financially stable is yet to come. Keep doing great with your minimalist lifestyle 😊
'Doubt Means No' I came up with this motto many years ago and it's a game changer. If I hesitate or start coming up with reasons to why I "need" to buy something, 99% of the time I don't and just reminding myself of that phrase works like a charm and I walk away feeling empowered.
My dad used to tell me that if I ever have doubts about doing something it’s best to not do it. Trust my gut feeling. Otherwise I’ll definitely regret it
When I see something I want I make a calendar entry for a week or month away to consider the purchase. If I still want it, I get it. Usually I really don't care about owning it after all.
Simplicity spurs peace. That's a wonderful feeling I have been having when I look at the top of my wardrobe while laying on my bed. Now I only keep a beautiful basket that has a cover on top of this wardrobe. Thank you Elin for your inspirations.
This reminded me of a poster I saw once long ago. The photo was of a tumultuous shoreline, with water crashing furiously over huge jagged rocks. One of these rocks had an open space through which water was rushing, from the relative calm on the other side. The caption said, "The only way around is through." This has stuck with me all these years, and it strikes me today that it is helpful also for decluttering: the only way around is through. Thanks!
I love your channel so much. I was about to spend over $100 on Amazon and I had to talk myself out of it. I know my triggers and I don’t know why I “window shop” when I have a difficult time controlling myself 🙈 So here I am watching your videos.
Objects are not people......hearing this has helped me so much over the past few days. I’m working on a major purge of stuff I don’t use and haven’t used for years. I’m finally able to let go of stuff I’ve held onto because of the memory of the person who gave it to me. It’s quite freeing.
My guiding mantra is to only keep what I love, kind of ala Marie Kondo. Also, I believe we're eternal spiritual beings having a temporary human experience, so I try to stay mindful of what will feed my spirit first and foremost. Great content!
Absolutely! Keeping only the essential and necessary things can not only save us money, but can actually give us a peace of mind by not having some messy things within our peripheral vision.
One of my recent mottos that has been helping me find a more sustainable way to my version of minimalism: Can I fix this? I take that even further by really taking the time to learn how to properly care for the items I have, like leather conditioning my jacket and bag, and sharpening my scissors and pocket knife.
No matter how small the thing may seem, it's the effect that counts. As easy as you are doing the leather conditioning, you can save at least a penny, which can be a big bucks combined in a year.
Im from Philippine by now im very stressful about my stuff every year my clothes are so very many and now every time I watch minimalism I start to think thats its time to reduce one by one ,step by step . I always watch your chanel and you encourage me so thankful to you.
Your videos are nice. Thanks for sharing your ideas and thoughts on minimalism. You’re inspiring to others. Wishing you and your channel growth and great success.
Thank you Elin for your quotes and inspiration. I’m back on my declutter journey after a few months break. But I was not idle, I did a lot of work on not spending! It’s always a work in progress for me, I know for some people it took years to be at a level they are comfortable with.
For me when I’m shopping and looking at things and questioning if I should buy it. I try to take a moment and think, where would I put this? If I don’t have a spot, I don’t buy it. I want items I cherish not ones that are just there. For clothes I think, I’m just going to have to store this when it’s off season. That also helps me with the decision. I can differentiate better if I still want it or not.
Excelent video. Thank you for reminding us all these mottos, it´s a Philosophy that comes when you actually transform minimalism in more than just decluttering or an aestetic. it is a philosofhy of living.
I really wish I could buy new but old-fashioned appliances that don't come with "smart" technology, including, but not limited to: refrigerators, washing machines, dryers, dishwashers, stoves, and cars. For the love of God, my parents had the same refrigerator for over 40 years, the same telephone over 50 years. If/when the washer was acting up, my dad could just flip it over and change the agitator belt. Same principal with cars. And my parents managed to operate quite nicely without "cell" phones, which are aptly named, if you think of a "cell" as a jail. The technology isn't "smart," nor are we for using it.
Whenever I'm looking at buying something I work out how many hours I would have to work to pay for it. Is this thing worth a full day of working? Maybe even a full week of working?
Love this. It is so me. I look on line a lot and want to buy but do not need it. Now i have got to the point i am more careful what i buy. Have been getting rid of some of our furniture.
I ask myself, what else could I use instead? And, does keeping this item being me closer to my goals with minimalism or not? And, should I get rid of this now....or keep it for months, looking at it and fretting about it and then passing it along.
another variation I like is, "shopping is not doing". (of course we have our necessary shopping, but we all know the browsing kind that this phrase is referring to). : ))). cheerio from Aus.
Oh yes! A thing I’m telling myself that I read lately… we always have that scarcity mindset that is hard to shake! But when we are cluttered we actually live in abundance! So I try to remind myself that things come and go, and that I am not in need.
I love a bargain and I love free shipping. The two questions that stop me from placing an order: would I pay full price for this? Would I pay for shipping? Only once have I placed the order.
i am new to your videos . yes , i have ordered something on line and when its not available i am relieved . i really don't buy a lot of clothes or shoes , but bags are a different thing . once i see a new bag i want it . don't know how to stop it ...
Carolann I’m like you! Only with skin care products! I have a few subscriptions and I have never been like this before. I love exploring Korean products!,
For me the whole buying things to impress "the cool kids" was a cover up of my severe dysfunction (but I didn't know it at the time). There is NO product that will make me feel beautiful, smart or cool.
I had a garage sale. Just about everything sold for one dollar. One dollar. To the sad soul who bought so much stuff for one dollar. That aside, something I spent $40 on went away for a dollar. It was a powerful lesson. I don't buy stuff in the moment to have, to let it go for one dollar. Look around your house. Do you really need or use that? Likely not.
"Will you still like it in 1 year?"( it's a quote from the" minimal mom ")is helpful for me.
"My Stuff or my life..." Never heard this before and I think it's great!!!
A motto i love is "Enough is an attitude, not a quantity"...
Thank you for your inspired thoughts.♡
My journey to minimalism, debt free living, and weight loss all started within a year of each other. These phrases work for all of those!

I love being debt free. It took a few years to get here but its really great.

"Objects are not people." This is so helpful in downsizing. Solid gold.
These are just simple words combined that can totally bring a huge change in our lives.
Like intentional eating, I ask myself “is this getting me closer or further from my goal” it’s always been helpful.
I am going to take that in. No pun intended. Thank you!

@@site_is_down it really works. Debt free & prepared 🙋
I love to look at beautiful things but I don't need to own them.

@@1whitecottagelife770 I agree, this can apply to most things in life.

I intend to watch this over and over again.
My go-to internal statement when I see pretty things is: "I have enough." For some reason that small statement redirects me. =)
We can actually start the change in that very simple statement and it can be really effective for some of us at some extent. Thanks for sharing that 😊
I have a friend who often tells others “may you have enough “

one of the best videos on this topic. thanks for sharing. and now.... its time for implementation.
I’m getting ready to move and love watching your videos to remind me of what I need and what I don’t need.
Aw, I’m so glad! Moving is a great time to do some good decluttering :)

I feel the same as soon as I click "order".... A dread of having made a mistake. Thank evens for the "cancel order" button on Amazon!
I found this video so helpful. I need to put these into practice. Thank you so much and have a wonderful week.

Omg youre right. Like toothbrushes with bluetooth. Why???
I’ve been saying this for years‼️ Just SIMPLE please.
Look at local resale

Such an insightful video, thank you!

Before I buy something i ask myself, do I want to have to find a place to store this?
Really enjoyed your thoughts today ❣
I ask myself, "Do I want this thing now or choices later? "

This one came from my mom (referencing whenever something is on sale). Sure it's cheap to buy it; but it's even cheaper not to.

The memory is not the object!
What is a reasonable number of this item to keep an?
not exactly a saying, but when i'm tempted to buy something i ask: where will it go?
and f it's clothing, then, what will i donate
You remind me of a Dr. in your white shirt long sleeve. Not sure if that was intentional?
I thought same thing😄
❤😊
