It took me a while to figure out how to install beautify anki addon on Mac but once I figured it out... I audibly gasped hahaha thank you! I was one of those people who avoided Anki for more than a year because it looked 'ugly'. and now it looks so pretty :')))
Ayy! Very glad you got it solved! For sure one of Anki's biggest weakness is just simply how "industrial" it looks compared to "friendlier" looking alternatives. But as a result, a lot of the most determined learners get drawn to Anki and we're all really focused on helping each other get the best results! Enjoy the addon! :D

Everything is good here, but when i am in the assets folder looking for the deck backrounds folder, it does not exist, i can only change the deck icons. Anyone else have this problem or know of a solution? I tried adding the folder in but anki didnt load the image i put in there(I did name it after a deck exactly)
Once I added the beautify anki add-on... my whole program got an error upon launch. I'm not a wiz at all at this stuff so if anyone as any troubleshooting tips I'd love to hear.
Uninstall it for now by just taking it out. Can you find out what version of Anki you're using by going into Anki, going to the top left, help, and "about Anki" ?
@@linguisticliv Sounds like the newest version. I guess the plugin isn't supported for 2.1.49 yet. I'm using 2.1.35. . If you care about this then it's probably a good idea to downgrade. It's not as scary as it sounds, you'll just need a bit of time.
Hi, this video is pretty old so I get if this is not fixable but: I downloaded the newest version of Beautify Anki (still for Anki 2.1.49). However, the zip folder is completly empty after downloading it. Is there any fix to this?
I can't set any deck specific image :/ , do you guys happen to know why? And yes, the jpg is renamed so it matches the deck name. The animation between the 5 backgrounds works flawlessly tho. But animations like the deck name dropping from the top are not working, like here 9:06. Btw I'm on Anki 2.1.35.

Depends on what you're doing. If you're learning Japanese, never update to the latest version of Anki. This is because the latest version of Anki will always break addons. Furthermore, ask yourself what's different between each version of Anki- the answer is basically nothing. If you upgrade Anki, you gain nothing and just lose a bunch of useful addons, including the 6 essential addons for Japanese learners in 2024: ruclips.net/video/ahGkFX4JPc8/видео.html. . Stick to version 2.1.49 if you are learning Japanese. . If you still want to use the latest version of Anki, Beautify Anki 2.0 exists and 'works' on Anki 23.12.1 Qt6. The only problem is that it's buggy, as in: whenever you click a deck, it will permanently become white & the heatmap has inverted colors and there's no way to fix it.
Make sure you use Anki version 2.1.49 as that has the most amount of compatible plugins. The bad thing about Anki is that every new update breaks something and it takes a while for the community to update the plugins. . Thanks for letting me know though!

how do you have migaku japanese on anki 2.1.49? Migaku japanese is only available for 2.1.35 and older versions. I tried looking for a 49 version but nothings popping up
Hey there, sorry for the late reply, I've been busy studying for the JLPT but now I'm free! . You're looking at the wrong version of Migaku. To use Migaku with Anki 2.1.49, make sure you have the Migaku Anki Addon which is only for use for 2.1.49 and above, you also need to be a registered user of Migaku (which you can get the second month for free if you use my link: migaku.io/free-month/Juls). . If you are stuck on Anki 2.1.35, you are refering to "Migaku Japanese" which has been depreciated. "Migaku Japanese" is NOT the "Migaku Anki Addon".
Just had to install the newest version of beautify anki and it's still having flickering issues. I tried some different min sizes but I can't get it to stop flickering. It also doesn't support changing the background. Might be good to know for anyone trying this now. The linked repository doesn't work and you have to use the beta version, which still isn't supporting everything.
I'll probably make an updated version of this video that resolves this. If you're using the most up to date version of Anki, make sure to download the correct appropriate version of beautify anki. That's working for me perfectly fine.
Ah, also, for the deck-backgrounds folder- I did follow the steps mentioned in the video properly, I think, but I don't see any deck-background folder in assets?
both beautify-anki and heatmap doesn't work on my pc and i don't understand. However I tried copy and paste the heatmap codes and it worked. Beautify-anki is still unsloved tho.

The possibilities are endless tbh. I'm trying to work out the best possible combos of addons to gameify Anki. One of the reasons why stuff like Duolingo and Memrise are so popular are because of how lighthearted to make the whole process feel, I've been trying to mimic that into my Anki. . Hey! Sorry for the late response, RUclips flagged your comment as spam automatically. . To get back to the main menu, press "deck" on the top bar. To sync, press "sync" on the top bar. . To replace the settings icon, go into the Beautify Anki folder by going to Anki and click on "Tools" on the top, "addons", then find "beautify anki", click on it, then click on "Show files"/"See files" on the bottom right. (Idk the exact button names cuz my Anki is in Japanese) . Once in the Beautify Anki folder, go to user_files > assets > icons > deck browser icons . In there you will find "settings.svg". You can replace that with any other file named "settings.svg" but you must make sure it is an .svg file.

My smallest one is 250x250, biggest is 600x600. I guess as long as it's a square it'll work? And of course try not having it excessively big so it doesn't take a while to load.
Exactly! I personally am used to working with apps that look like this since I work with scary programs all the time and they all look like this. The weird thing is that that's actually what drew me IN to Anki! However I totally recognize how scary it is for people who aren't used to it. Anki's default look definitely doesn't look "fun" at all.
Beautify Anki works perfectly fine as demonstrated in my videos. What's not working is probably something on your end instead. Did you mean the Mac version of Anki 2.1.54? Downgrade Anki to 2.1.49. 49 is the most stable version with the most amount of compatible addons. Never update Anki unless there's some extremely good reason to do so, every update guarantees something will break.

There's the version 0.3.3 which supports Anki 2.1.49, just download it through the creator's GitHub.

I did everything that was here but it's just all by year
Click the little settings button on the top right of the heatmap, go into the general tab and change calender mode to "continuous timeline"

Did you mean the Mac version of Anki 2.1.54?
Downgrade Anki to 2.1.49. 49 is the most stable version with the most amount of compatible addons. Never update Anki unless there's some extremely good reason to do so, every update guarantees something will break.
