The Nintendo channels that depend on that brand succeeding for their channel to succeed, ehhh different story. I question their objectivity very often

Like fallout 76 is a good example where the people who by a special edition get a nylon bag while the 'reviewers' get canvas bag which originally they've had promise for the special edition. So yeah, it's easy to be a sell out when you get exclusive item, that even paid customer can't buy.
Always appreciate that you guys keep it a buck and avoid me throwing away $60-70 for a game. I'll give this a chance once it hits discount/clearance price in the next few months.

Things Saints Row 2 did that I loved then was never implemented again: -Customizing layers of clothes and the way you wear them -Buildings being entered in real time, particularly gang hideouts. No transitions, just open the door and you’re in there -Being able to choose whether you have 1 single handed weapon or dual wield. Instead of unlocking a permanent upgrade that takes that choice away forever. -Being able to replay missions -Being able to customize certain parts of each gang hideout (do you want a piano or a stripper pole? How big do you want your bed or your tv?) A lot of these are small but they emphasize choice. I’d rather be able to choose something, even something seemingly inconsequential, than have a game show me all the wacky animations I can do. I didn’t have very high hopes for this game but I HOPED they’d at least pretend to listen to their fan base and give a fraction of what Saints Row 2 gave us. I’m not surprised but I’m definitely disappointed. Maybe someday they’ll remaster Saints Row 2 IN IT’S ENTIRETY and I’ll be able to talk with my wallet then
Pretty sad to see. This developer is in my home town. I remember them signing copies of the first Saints Row at the local best buy in the mid 2000s. After Agents of Mayhem, a lot of people lost their jobs and I think this is the last nail in the coffin for this team.
I wish more games tried Resident Evil 6 shooting mechanics. The slide while shooting, quick shots, crawling while shooting, and all the other cool little moves you could made for some fun third person shooting.

It is really depressing what is happening to videogames. We still get the odd exception but overall, quality is decreasing in many essential areas. It's like the magic is gone and now it's all about the money. I can only hope that Rockstar come through in the next couple years and reassure us.

Just got the game yesterday and had low expectations been playing it for a small bit of time and I'm enjoying it alot so far. I think people let others opinions sway them too much, nostalgia as well its, been running perfectly fine for me on PS5 but I can't speak for those on PS4.

I watch almost everything from this channel, no matter what. Whether I’m interested in the discussions or not. But listening to a fan of a series tell their honest opinion of a new game in a respected series…. I had a feeling that this was the exact “before you buy” that we would get for this game and as far as this channel is concerned I wasn’t dissatisfied. Y’all gave me the facts no matter what as you do and I already expected this to be unbiased despite being obviously biased. This was the review I wanted and we all deserved. What made Saints Row 2 the best was the story, the customization for both the players and the cars, and the unique characters . This game only got the customization right and nothing else. This game makes me appreciate games like Elden Ring a lot more lmao.
Thing I loved about SR2 is you could tackle any of the gangs in any order. It meant that you got a good storyline and characters from each arc. I hated that it had a more rigid storyline in 3 and that Phillipe was almost immediately killed.
So I’m replaying through SR3 rn and nostalgia aside it has many of its own issues, but it has an identity and a commitment to fun which honestly is all I ask for in a SR game. I’m not expecting 100% bug Free gameplay and an Oscar winning story. Lemme spray some poop onto houses, punch some people in the D and then dance on their corpse. I’m a simple man!

Not necessarily true, it is up to personal opinion and what you like as well. Usually I can agree with Jake, but there’s at least a handful of times/games that I’ve really enjoyed and Jake didn’t.

I always figured they struck lightning in a bottle with the 2nd game. I remember just trying it out and immediately getting sucked into the world with its charm and soundtrack. Was not able to get that same feeling in later games. Didn't expect this reboot to be good after seeing the debut trailer. Was hoping at least it would be fun to play, but the trailers always made the game look boring. This video just confirms it. Saints Row is supposed to be cool which this game does not have. It looks like Third in the desert. I think I will just wait for Saints Row 2 Remake if Volition is still around after this.

This right here, I played 3 and 4 first then went back and played 2 because of sale and DAMN it was tight even after aging a bit it was still really good and fun and the saints did some horrible things.
That’s why I appreciate this channel.. I love the old school saints row and while I knew this one was still over the top I figured it’d be more like the 3rd.. I was going to buy it.. but now I think Il wait for a sale and time for the bugs. I appreciate the honesty and genuine vibe gameranx has.
I agree I was hoping for a Saints Row The Third feel kind of feel. This is disappointing. I personally love the Saints Row games but Gat out of Hell, whatever the last game was and this is just sad.
Other journalists are always going to the extremes in one way or the other. These guys keep it real and tell you the good and the bad without having to praise to high heaven or crap on the game entirely. I actually get a good idea of what the game is like (imagine that). Even after all these years and monetary growth it feels like you guys haven’t sold out or become jaded to it all. Keep it up and I’ll keep watching 👍
Nothing is ever really unbiased. If he made a video saying how amazing the game is then people would accuse him of getting paid off even if what he is saying is genuine. Gameranx knows this and it possibly influenced the review. My advice is don’t take any reviews too seriously because there is always some bias everywhere u look
Thank you for saving me $60! It’s a shame: the series peaked at SR2 with the perfect mix of nonsense and drama. SR3 had a lot of genuinely epic moments, but were drowned out by the madness.
I would have loved a straight up honest to God remaster of Saints Row 1 and 2. It would have been cheaper to make, received more positively by the fans and probably would have made more money. This game feels like it's stuck in the 2010's anyway so you may as well... I went back and played SR2 recently and yes it's dated but it still has a whole lot of charm. I miss when Saints Row would mix serious moments with balls to the wall comedy.
Relatively recently they found the source code for Saints Row 2 which they previously thought was lost due to loss of data. You may get your remastered series sometime in the near future after all :)
Saints Row was a fantastic start and had some genius moments, Saints Row 2 seems like they somehow and someway fell into an incredible game, that was so close if not perfect at the time. Saints Row 3 went kinda wacky for me personally but still was enjoyable and made me want more. Saints Row 4 is where I jumped off and realised they had no idea what the gamers wanted from Saints Row anymore, they completely went off script. So when I saw the gameplay and trailer for this new reboot I realised they still had missed the point, completely discarded everything we asked for and it seems so bland it’s untrue, such a shame for one of my favourite games growing up. I won’t be picking this reboot up for a long while if ever.
I came into Saints Row with the 3rd. I honestly really enjoyed it since GTA pivoted even more into a realistic tone in story and visuals at that time( which I did enjoy as well). I don't know who they're trying to market the new one too since..The physics are extremely whacked, more crazy that 3 and 4, but they want to tell a visual style of the first two? Identity crisis for sure. 🤕
@@Estirvana It screams out to me that the project changed its focus and direction 4-5x during development and I can almost guarantee that the lead person in charge of this reboot changed multiple times as well. I am super disappointed I wanted to pick this game up on launch but I think I will wait for a big sale before I consider trying it out.

I enjoyed the sandbox super power game in SR4, but as a Saints Row game it sucks ass. That plot is garbage. I agree overall, 2 does have my fondest memories from the series. Honestly maybe after 3 they should have done a “reboot” style game with a new gang starting from the ground up, maybe even with The Saints still existing but this new gang is rising after The Boss has stepped down or gone into hiding or something and The Saints have lost their way. But retaining the humor and ideas of past games instead of a full reboot or trying to continue the story past 3 (which they did do, and it sucked (again, talking plot and not gameplay)).
Anytime a game boasts more about its customization than the actual gameplay, I get worried. I wished this would be more like Saints Row 2, being in the middle of goofy and serious, but just seeing how "quirky" the dialogue was from the trailers, I figured it wasn't going to be anything special.

I, too, am enjoying the game very much. I am having a great time, and ultimately, that is all that matters. Games are also developed to entertain. It does not matter how many reviews you watch or read; the only person who can determine whether or not you will appreciate anything is you. I think in this case, ppl were expecting something different.
I always look for the "Before you Buy" from Jake or Falcon for the most honest genuine review for any game I want to play. Sadly for me this is an "After you Buy" since I've been waiting for the next full Saints Row game since IV and jumped the shark on ordering this before all the reviews came out. The game is coming later today for me, and I hope I can find some fun in this yet. Thank you Jake for for this awesome review.
I have the same issue with you, m8. I have played the first 2 hours. The thing is that when everybody says that the game is terrible, you go into it with super low expectations. In that aspect, I enjoyed the first 2 hours that I played. I don't know if the enjoyment lasts for long though...

Pre-ordering digital games these days is pointless. Not like preordering a game then collecting from Electronics Boutique at midnight. ahh the good old days.
Just finished the story of this game and did most of the side quests as well as taking control of most of the map with the “business ventures” only reached 70% completion with the leftover content being things like driving a truck with volatile barrels from the desert back into the city…if the video wasn’t enough to steer you away from this idk what will but… personally the radio stations alone will drive you insane. Like 10 stations with 5 songs each… I had to permanently mute the radio by the time I hit 20% story. Best part of the game was being able to save any car you saw in your garage and customization. Lots of wacky vehicles. Best part of the story was the whole LARPing sequence.
Been playing for about 10 hours and not what I had hoped for but, jumping into co-op with my friend made a world of difference. Sadly not what I expected but still fun, having a friend along for the ride was a saving grace.
Are you playing on controller or keyboard? I use the controller and click l3 to sprint and a weird keyboard pops up and I can’t get rid of it? And the game can’t seem to decide what it wants to use lol

What separates this review from others is that you can tell Jake wants this game to be good like many of us watching did. Not just to kick it whilst it's down like many others seem to enjoy doing. Damn shame about this game, was really looking forward to this! What's worse is that it's not even fixable issues. Basic mechanics need overhauls. The story/character/gameplay flow writing just isn't it.
We weren't kicking it while it was done to enjoy it. Og fans didnt like the game because it was everything we didnt want. Imagine supporting a company that made 2 great gangster games from 2006-2008. From 2010 they release a decent game sr3 it gets some new fans but the majority are the OG fans arent feeling it. The gangsters are now celebrities. we give them advice and say we dont like the direction they went let's take it back to the gangster stuff and finish an important plot line that the game ignored. Instead they release gangsters going to space and fighting aliens in sr 4 again we didn't ask for this we want the gangster stuff back. They then proceed to release gat out of hell were the saints go to hell to fight satan and do Disney sing alongs, these guys are suppose to be gangsters like wtf. They release agents of mayhem which flops. Then they tease the OG fans with a picture that makes it seem like they will be going back to the gangster stuff and guess what they dont instead they actively make it clear that they will be avoiding everything that made sr1 and 2 special. OG Fans are mad and try to give volition actual criticism instead of taking criticism from the fans they send out a tweet saying haters gonna hate TO A FANBASE THATS BEEN LOYAL TO THEM FOR OVER A DECADE. Go search up house hexagon and he'll clear things up even more. If you got treated like this as a consumer you'd have every right to be mad people calling us "band wagon haters" dont actually know the full story go checkout the history of saints row and its fanbase

I could even look past the new reboot first controversial trailer until I saw the game properly. What I should of worded better in my response is that I don't like the over clickbaitin titles that everyone is using saying do not buy this game at all. All jumping on the same bandwagon whenever a new game flops. Gameranx always try to see some positives in games as well as show the negatives. It isn't a barrage of one sided opinions. If Jake is disappointed who we can tell us a long time SR fan it shows the game is in a bad state

I was looking forward to this saints row after playing 1-3 I didn’t like sr4 or gat out of hell but when I heard of this reboot I was hoping they were gonna bring back the charm and flow of 1-3 maybe with time and patches can hopefully make the game feel fun. Hats off to gameranx for being honest and truthful I always look forward for your “before you buy” vids for games I want.
I absolutely adored SR3 back in the day. When 4 came out I was very excited but ended up playing for maybe two hours max because I ended up really not liking it. I was stoked to see them doing this reboot but feel quite disappointed. It just doesn’t look fun or even unique. Glad to have a channel that gives honest genuine reviews though.
I liked sr4 with the whole matrix vibez gat from hell was basically the same as sr4 you just playing as gat which was fun for me but I bought all the games on digital sale sooo my views might be one-sided 😅😅

ive never ever played a saints row game before so this was my first time, i very much enjoyed this game i had a lot of fun so maybe thats why, this one is deffo not as bad as a lot of people make it out to be - also ive never played a game like this before only gta which is obviously similar so maybe again thats why i personally had a lot of fun, i like the little side quest things just overall really enjoyed it... i had like 3 minor bugs during the whole game.

Really do appreciate your honesty with it, and that you recognize that others may enjoy it too. I love the Saint's Row series of games, but the more that I watched trailers for this game the more I got the sense that this was gonna be like the new Crackdown games. Not necessarily bad but devoid of what made the originals fun. Probably will pass on this game for now, maybe pick it up after its been out for a while. Apprecaite all the work this channel does to bring these Before You Buy videos, they are incredibly helpful!
Crackdown 3 was more of a Crackdown game than Crackdown 2. It had the exact mechanics of the first game. Anyone who shit on it clearly doesn't remember the first game.
@@nBasedAce Wasn't trying to shit on it. It just didn't hit the same marks as the first one did, at least for me. if you enjoyed 3 that's great, I'm glad you did. For me it just fell off very quickly the more that I played and something about it felt off to me. Not a bad game by any means, just felt kind of....meh. And it having the same mechanics as the first game doesn't mean it will be as good. What made Crackdown 1 great back then, isn't exactly revolutionary nowadays. And for me it just didn't offer anything new. And with Saint's Row, I'm just gonna give it some time. Let them patch some things up, maybe add some new content and then I might be willing to pick it up later. Doesn't look bad at all, it just doesn't grab my attention right now.
i wish we could a mixture of crackdown 1 and 2. i really liked the open world and character/suit upgrades for crackdown 2 but i really really loved how the cars would transform if your driving level was maxed in the first game.
I can honestly say I’ve played saints row 2 more than any game ever in my life and loved basically every single saints title other then agents of mayhem , and I knew this was gonna be bad but I’m glad gameranx is keeping it real and not kissin ass , love you gameranx 👉🏻👉🏻

@@moises9090 big SR2 PC Patch that was in the works for a while by Idolninja because they managed to recover SR2s source code. The idea of it was to overhaul the pc version of sr2 to actually be decent. Fixed a lot of bugs added the dlcs and supposedly other quality of life stuff from when Idolninja made Gentlemen of the Row. Sadly we haven’t heard a lot about it since Idolninja’s passing last august. Last thing we got is that it was going on the back burner to focus on this Reboot and deep silver/volition promised to finish it in honor of Idolninja and all his contributions to the community afterwards.

I was going to buy this. But do the fact that I don't give a flying fuck about the characters and this video kind of solidify the reason why I don't want the game anymore. And school, I have no interested in playing a college student. These videos are money savers

@@snubcaboose132 Stop it lol. Elden Ring, Red dead 2, God of War, Tsushima, Horizon 2 and Botw don't really count. They're the exceptions that prove the rule. Ubisoft has normalised this kinda soulless microtransaction open world crap and Bethesda and most others have followed suit. Most of these games just want you to shell out on dlc and focus on that rather than the quality.
I absolutely loved this game! From the goofy protagonist and story to the addition of criminal ventures (I really enjoyed those even though they were insanely expensive). I’m still waiting on the expansions for this game!

If you've never watched ACG though he's legit, I like how he breaks his reviews down into sound, gameplay, etc and he will give an opinion on whether it's worth 60 or to wait for it to go on sale or never touch it. Him and Gameranx are the main 2 I watch for opinions on new games.
I loved one and 2. In fact saints row 2 for me was probably one of my most played games ever. It had so much replay value. I loved the customization, and one thing I seriously loved that games don’t do anymore, I loved how you could pick your voice. I don’t mean just grunting and moaning and breathing. I mean you literally picked a voice actor. There would be a basic script but each voice actor had their own flavor. Like I’m Hispanic and if you picked the Hispanic voice he would speak Spanglish. Which was great. I feel like if fallout 4 had that ability to choose from several different voice actors, it wouldn’t have gotten as much flak for having a voice actor. Even though Starfield doesn’t have a voiced protagonist I kind of wish it did if we got to pick the voice. But anyways, a reboot could’ve done saints row wonders if they took it a little seriously again. We have yet to have a game that lets us have our own cartel. It could’ve went down that route if it didn’t want to go down the typical gang route. A mafia or cartel would’ve been a cool spin while being new.

I bought it against my better judgement and am surprisingly enjoying it myself. It's definitely fun for me so far. The shooting for me is a little steep up there's a setting to snap to new target which is nice. One thing they do need to fix is the in game character creation you can't do some things that was in the original games but you also get some things that weren't in the original games.
@Pietje Paulientje I don't deny my standards may be a bit lax but I can say gaming companies don't enjoy having someone like me as a fan. I can find some fun to be had playing the game and that could be partly because I have barely any soul to speak of either but please don't go ruining other people's fun with the game.
I won't lie, I'm still gonna buy it because what I love more then anything in games is customization and with saints row you always had the potential to make the look however you want. That and I do want to play a gta like game that's silly. I'm exhausted of gta at the moment and have loved saints row 2 and 3. I liked 4 but when I was able to get superpowers that made faster than the cars I started to dislike it but Saints row 4 always had some funny moments and I live to laugh with over the top stuff. I have a gamestop card with 25 bucks on it so i'mma use that to pay for half and I'll just pay for the other so if I don't like I don't feel completely ripped off.
Once again gameranx saved me a heartache I lost my love for the series after 2 and was hoping this would go back to it's roots I'm glad some people are enjoying it but just off of gameplay alone I could tell I would've been disappointed maybe I'm wrong and I'll live it as much as the first 2 but I'm not willing to risk the money until it's discounted or I can find it used if there isn't really much of a story gets me immersed in the world I don't have the free time as I did when I was younger to find the smaller things more enjoyable but once again to each it's own and I appreciate everything everyone does at gameranx for us as a gaming community. @@coolman5242 agreed. I loved playing because the super powers made the gameplay fun as hell, customization was great and the music was top tier imho. SR 3 (and it's remake) just wasn't as fun to me.
I feel like people are comparing too much to the old SR games. It's a reboot, not a sequel. It's the process of restarting something old with a new foundation. If it's not for you that's understandable. But a lot of the review complaints I hear stem from comparison and that's really not fair to the game itself.
I'm the same as the reviewer, a fan of this series no matter how crazy it was as it was fun. I was hesitant about pre-ordering and I'm glad I was. I'll wait until it is on game pass to play. I lost all hope when I saw the trailer.... Who the fuck made these characters? Saints row was always the less serious less mature game to GTA, but they went like 90% dora the explorer with these characters. What the absolute fuck is wrong with game devs.

I've always loved the Saints Row games and was really excited to see what this game could bring to the franchise however, with it being a reboot and now this review marking it as a "disappointment" I think I'll wait until the game goes on sale. Thank Gameranx
I had it on preorder and completely forgot. Wish I had waited a while, it should’ve had more time put into it. The streets are empty, the random sandstorm I encountered when loading into a save basically impaired my sight, the amount of times I have had to restart a mission from a checkpoint due to enemies not spawning in or being outside the combat area is ridiculous and that’s not even the half of it.
Was 4 the one where there was an alien invasion and the entire world was a simulation? If so that was my favorite. It really pushed the zany and ridiculous even for a Saint's Row game. Ity had a dubstep gun, an Alien abduction gun, a black hole gun, and you could get bad ass super powers! I have spent countless hours in that game when I was a kid.
see i really liked the super powers and wish they would've expanded upon it and allowed you to just use them instead of guns. i can't stand the shooting in saints row it is soo....dead like their is no real feedback it just feels basic and shitty. i found myself mostly using super speed and sprint takedowns and found myself jumping in the air and launching my fist down a lot since the powers took forever to recharge

I'm not much for wingsuits but I think they did because people like the flying/gliding of Saints Row 4 and the way they kept it is with a wingsuits ability
What I always appreciate about these guys reviews, they always say "this particular thing didn't really do it for me but it may do something for you". Like they acknowledge that this is their opinion and that doesn't mean you personally won't like or dislike the game they are talking about and they don't go around busting chops if u do end up liking the game or w.e., they don't say things like "you'd have to be stupid to like this" or what have you. They simply tell us their opinions and thoughts and let you take what u want out of that opinion
Imo it just seems like they tried to redo saints row 3 but in a new setting While it looks modern etc it still plays like Sr3 witch is very janky at times and feels like a step back compared to current day games and most people probably expected it to feel like gta when the franchise has never felt like that People expected a modern game but got a reskin of Sr3 witch I personally liked so I’m fine with but I understand why people don’t
The games always felt floaty and janky. I guess we expected something “better” when they decided to REBOOT it instead of just making saints row 6. Like jake said; the game doesn’t appeal to the more serious people but also doesn’t appeal to the over the top people. It does everything mid-low tier.
Damn... I was really hoping this would be another Saints Row I could enjoy. SRGooH was a super bummer for me and, being the last SR game I played, was a sour way to end the series I absolutely loved. Seeing this one flop is worrisome for the future; i'll keep my eyes on it, thanks Gameranx.
Honestly, I'm just curious about Santo Ileso. I preordered back in late 2021 with the expectation that access to the open world was going to be on par with the first two Saint's Row games - plenty of interiors, the ability to buy food to replenish health, stores being open or closed depending on the time of day, and enemies randomly attacking your strongholds - to name a few. In the last 24 hours, I've learned that those features - features that were present in the original 16-year-old title - are not present. I'm disappointed but not surprised. After all, this is what happens when shareholders dictate the game development process, causing incomplete, buggy, or downright bad games to be released. NOTE: On August 22, 2022. the parent company's share price tanked about 12%. Sadly, some developers' careers will end over this.

Same here brother, Im only interested in the world since it could have been a hit but game surrounding it just does not seem right. Looks hollow, empty and souless. Yeah do the gaming industry a solid and remember no preorder, its what they want for the shareholders to prove that they have something. They need to prove it to US above all else since we decide rather a game is a hit or not. Sucks that a dev might lose a job but Volition has had many a mistep and layoffs before to learn and not make the same mistake. Looks like they just didnt listen to fans yet again.
Fun fact, right now on ps5 if you try to apply the trigger resistance in the settings the game will actually apply inverted movement and the trigger resistance won't even work anyway
It makes me so sad that we live in a world where an unfinished game is released and then a massive day one patch is issued, and its considered normal.... it feels like "heres your new car! The tires come later though"

I'm a huge Saints Row Fan, played 1-4 and Gat out of Hell (2-GooH on PC ). I was so hyped to hear about a new Saints Row game coming out and I was already willing to pre order it. Now after seeing a few gameplay videos and this review I'm glad it was Epic Exclusive, Epic literally saved me money which I'd have otherwise spent for pre ordering the game or even buying it day 1. Maybe I give it a try in a year when it's released on Steam and in some sort of Sale. From what I saw so far it looks like not worth the $60 but it could be pretty okayish for like $25.
I never played any of the old Saints Row games but I'm tempted this one. Having not played the previous games so I'm not sure I'll understand the things that don't work for you personally but I love the fact that you're always 100% honest. I can always rely on this channel for helping me choose new games. Immortals Fenyx Rising and Lost Judgement, Outer Worlds in particular being my personal favourites discovered by Gameranx and hey I'll even go as far as saying they're some of the best and most memorable games I've ever played but it's the negative points that kinda make or break me wanting a game. I love how this looks and this cool open world but after the combat review, it's making me think back to some disappointing games so I'll chew on this one. Thanks again Gameranx! You rule.
I always enjoy the honesty of these videos. I’ve been playing saints row 2022 since yesterday afternoon, and I’m finding myself enjoying the game. It’s not as over the top as the previous entries which could be why it seems lackluster to some. It feels like a game that is going back to the start with hindsight of what the fans enjoyed. I’ve had a few bugs but nothing too game breaking for me.
I personally preferred saints row 1 and 2 for the gangs and watching how they'd change as you do more missions, i personally didn't like 3 and stopped caring when they want wackiness over cohesiveness, and seeing saints row 3 's micro transactions, i got a feeling thats gonna be the cash cow for the game, it may be fun but i'd rather a game that allows for gangs to seem realish but no, everything needs to be borderlands which i personally don't like
This is the exact same feeling I had. Saints Row 2 had organic wackiness just because you could do whatever you wanted but was created by a really solid story and fun to play game. 3 was just too over the top and tried to force the wackiness over actually making a solid game.
Everytime a saints row comes out people just wanna complain that it’s not SR2, 14 years ago that game came out people need to move on and stop crying about games from nearly 20 years ago lol

The environments look cool and varied. It seems that's where they spent most of their time and energy on that and not much else, based on what you're saying about the gameplay.
Personally I got into Saints Row at 3 and 4. Never tried GooH mostly because I love the character customization in 3 and 4. Saints Row just felt so much more fun than GTA. I didn't have to worry about running out of money or players killing me when I just wanna do my objectives. Saints Row 3 and 4 felt like fun escapes for me and I genuinely enjoy the characters and story however silly they may be. I was very hesitant looking at this reboot because while I get some fans don't like the silliness, I'm completely here for it and while it seems like customization for characters is still there, I'm not sure if I'd have fun with it. I miss saints Row 3's octo launcher. I loved the goofy sci-fi story in 4. They were very fun games for me. Idk if this seems like something I'd wanna play unless I tried a demo of it.

Here’s a fix for the controls bug that helped me on ps5: go back to the church and spawn a helicopter and fly around in it. One you get out of it you should be able to shoot again.
I think my favorite saints row, was the 2nd. The soundtrack was fire, the whackyness, hilarious! And the enemy gangs memorable. I downloaded the "boss" creator. I wasn't impressed with the character creation, I could not, for the life of me make my character "good looking" no matter how hard I tried, my ppl ended up looking like npcs in oblivion :/ so I took that as being a meh game and decided to stay away until I saw some reviews
I was really hoping more emphasis on the crime startup, more systems like nemesis (copium) like random characters that join you that can make your single-player experience more unique. The only thing i saw that was cool is the territory assets you can get but sadly that is it and that system should've been connected to building your army of crime soldiers which should be connected to invasions of future territories to make it more epic and worth it.
The nemesis system is licensed by shadow of war (warner bros) until 2035.... You are dreaming if you think anyone can use it.... If you see something new and fun in a game usualy they monopolise that by licensing for 20 years and destroying the gamming industry by blocking acces to stuff.

Apparently they have overhauled basically the whole game, changed/rebalanced the combat, fixed stuff that wasn't working, and added new content to boot! So, personally, Agents of Mayhem is one of my favorite games. It definitely wasn't perfect and some missions I could have lived a happier life without ever having to endure them, but for the most part, Agents of Mayhem was a fun and satisfying game, at least for me. I still want to try this game, it looks like I may actually like it. Then I can add it to my list of "Games I like that nobody else cares about" with Agents of Mayhem and Crackdown 3

Things Saints Row 2 did that I loved then was never implemented again:
-Customizing layers of clothes and the way you wear them
-Buildings being entered in real time, particularly gang hideouts. No transitions, just open the door and you’re in there
-Being able to choose whether you have 1 single handed weapon or dual wield. Instead of unlocking a permanent upgrade that takes that choice away forever.
-Being able to replay missions
-Being able to customize certain parts of each gang hideout (do you want a piano or a stripper pole? How big do you want your bed or your tv?)
A lot of these are small but they emphasize choice. I’d rather be able to choose something, even something seemingly inconsequential, than have a game show me all the wacky animations I can do. I didn’t have very high hopes for this game but I HOPED they’d at least pretend to listen to their fan base and give a fraction of what Saints Row 2 gave us. I’m not surprised but I’m definitely disappointed. Maybe someday they’ll remaster Saints Row 2 IN IT’S ENTIRETY and I’ll be able to talk with my wallet then

Pretty sad to see. This developer is in my home town. I remember them signing copies of the first Saints Row at the local best buy in the mid 2000s. After Agents of Mayhem, a lot of people lost their jobs and I think this is the last nail in the coffin for this team.

Perfect description. I could see the characters in this game in another Netflix RE adaption.

It is really depressing what is happening to videogames. We still get the odd exception but overall, quality is decreasing in many essential areas. It's like the magic is gone and now it's all about the money. I can only hope that Rockstar come through in the next couple years and reassure us.

Just got the game yesterday and had low expectations been playing it for a small bit of time and I'm enjoying it alot so far. I think people let others opinions sway them too much, nostalgia as well its, been running perfectly fine for me on PS5 but I can't speak for those on PS4.

What made Saints Row 2 the best was the story, the customization for both the players and the cars, and the unique characters . This game only got the customization right and nothing else. This game makes me appreciate games like Elden Ring a lot more lmao.

Thing I loved about SR2 is you could tackle any of the gangs in any order. It meant that you got a good storyline and characters from each arc. I hated that it had a more rigid storyline in 3 and that Phillipe was almost immediately killed.

I always figured they struck lightning in a bottle with the 2nd game. I remember just trying it out and immediately getting sucked into the world with its charm and soundtrack. Was not able to get that same feeling in later games. Didn't expect this reboot to be good after seeing the debut trailer. Was hoping at least it would be fun to play, but the trailers always made the game look boring. This video just confirms it. Saints Row is supposed to be cool which this game does not have. It looks like Third in the desert. I think I will just wait for Saints Row 2 Remake if Volition is still around after this.
You know why they went down hill, its the same for most AAA studios. It happened in 2016, they all got hit at the same time.

This right here, I played 3 and 4 first then went back and played 2 because of sale and DAMN it was tight even after aging a bit it was still really good and fun and the saints did some horrible things.

Thank you for saving me $60! It’s a shame: the series peaked at SR2 with the perfect mix of nonsense and drama. SR3 had a lot of genuinely epic moments, but were drowned out by the madness.

I would have loved a straight up honest to God remaster of Saints Row 1 and 2. It would have been cheaper to make, received more positively by the fans and probably would have made more money. This game feels like it's stuck in the 2010's anyway so you may as well... I went back and played SR2 recently and yes it's dated but it still has a whole lot of charm. I miss when Saints Row would mix serious moments with balls to the wall comedy.
I want a remaster cuz I never played the first one and it will bring 1 and 2 to modern PlayStation consoles so I can have every SR on my ps5 lol
Relatively recently they found the source code for Saints Row 2 which they previously thought was lost due to loss of data.

Saints Row was a fantastic start and had some genius moments, Saints Row 2 seems like they somehow and someway fell into an incredible game, that was so close if not perfect at the time. Saints Row 3 went kinda wacky for me personally but still was enjoyable and made me want more. Saints Row 4 is where I jumped off and realised they had no idea what the gamers wanted from Saints Row anymore, they completely went off script. So when I saw the gameplay and trailer for this new reboot I realised they still had missed the point, completely discarded everything we asked for and it seems so bland it’s untrue, such a shame for one of my favourite games growing up. I won’t be picking this reboot up for a long while if ever.
I came into Saints Row with the 3rd. I honestly really enjoyed it since GTA pivoted even more into a realistic tone in story and visuals at that time( which I did enjoy as well). I don't know who they're trying to market the new one too since..The physics are extremely whacked, more crazy that 3 and 4, but they want to tell a visual style of the first two? Identity crisis for sure. 🤕
@@Estirvana It screams out to me that the project changed its focus and direction 4-5x during development and I can almost guarantee that the lead person in charge of this reboot changed multiple times as well. I am super disappointed I wanted to pick this game up on launch but I think I will wait for a big sale before I consider trying it out.

I enjoyed the sandbox super power game in SR4, but as a Saints Row game it sucks ass. That plot is garbage. I agree overall, 2 does have my fondest memories from the series.
Honestly maybe after 3 they should have done a “reboot” style game with a new gang starting from the ground up, maybe even with The Saints still existing but this new gang is rising after The Boss has stepped down or gone into hiding or something and The Saints have lost their way. But retaining the humor and ideas of past games instead of a full reboot or trying to continue the story past 3 (which they did do, and it sucked (again, talking plot and not gameplay)).
Yeah 2 was awesome. I miss chilling at the airport shooting at the planes taking off and watch them hit max speed within a second and crash usually.
Anytime a game boasts more about its customization than the actual gameplay, I get worried. I wished this would be more like Saints Row 2, being in the middle of goofy and serious, but just seeing how "quirky" the dialogue was from the trailers, I figured it wasn't going to be anything special.
Saints Row 2 was really their Magnum Opus. I still play it to this day.

I, too, am enjoying the game very much. I am having a great time, and ultimately, that is all that matters. Games are also developed to entertain. It does not matter how many reviews you watch or read; the only person who can determine whether or not you will appreciate anything is you.

I always look for the "Before you Buy" from Jake or Falcon for the most honest genuine review for any game I want to play. Sadly for me this is an "After you Buy" since I've been waiting for the next full Saints Row game since IV and jumped the shark on ordering this before all the reviews came out. The game is coming later today for me, and I hope I can find some fun in this yet. Thank you Jake for for this awesome review.
I have the same issue with you, m8. I have played the first 2 hours. The thing is that when everybody says that the game is terrible, you go into it with super low expectations. In that aspect, I enjoyed the first 2 hours that I played. I don't know if the enjoyment lasts for long though...

Just finished the story of this game and did most of the side quests as well as taking control of most of the map with the “business ventures” only reached 70% completion with the leftover content being things like driving a truck with volatile barrels from the desert back into the city…if the video wasn’t enough to steer you away from this idk what will but… personally the radio stations alone will drive you insane. Like 10 stations with 5 songs each… I had to permanently mute the radio by the time I hit 20% story. Best part of the game was being able to save any car you saw in your garage and customization. Lots of wacky vehicles. Best part of the story was the whole LARPing sequence.
Been playing for about 10 hours and not what I had hoped for but, jumping into co-op with my friend made a world of difference. Sadly not what I expected but still fun, having a friend along for the ride was a saving grace.
Are you playing on controller or keyboard? I use the controller and click l3 to sprint and a weird keyboard pops up and I can’t get rid of it? And the game can’t seem to decide what it wants to use lol

What separates this review from others is that you can tell Jake wants this game to be good like many of us watching did. Not just to kick it whilst it's down like many others seem to enjoy doing.
Damn shame about this game, was really looking forward to this! What's worse is that it's not even fixable issues. Basic mechanics need overhauls. The story/character/gameplay flow writing just isn't it.
We weren't kicking it while it was done to enjoy it. Og fans didnt like the game because it was everything we didnt want. Imagine supporting a company that made 2 great gangster games from 2006-2008. From 2010 they release a decent game sr3 it gets some new fans but the majority are the OG fans arent feeling it. The gangsters are now celebrities. we give them advice and say we dont like the direction they went let's take it back to the gangster stuff and finish an important plot line that the game ignored. Instead they release gangsters going to space and fighting aliens in sr 4 again we didn't ask for this we want the gangster stuff back. They then proceed to release gat out of hell were the saints go to hell to fight satan and do Disney sing alongs, these guys are suppose to be gangsters like wtf. They release agents of mayhem which flops. Then they tease the OG fans with a picture that makes it seem like they will be going back to the gangster stuff and guess what they dont instead they actively make it clear that they will be avoiding everything that made sr1 and 2 special. OG Fans are mad and try to give volition actual criticism instead of taking criticism from the fans they send out a tweet saying haters gonna hate TO A FANBASE THATS BEEN LOYAL TO THEM FOR OVER A DECADE. Go search up house hexagon and he'll clear things up even more. If you got treated like this as a consumer you'd have every right to be mad people calling us "band wagon haters" dont actually know the full story go checkout the history of saints row and its fanbase

I could even look past the new reboot first controversial trailer until I saw the game properly. I was looking forward to this saints row after playing 1-3 I didn’t like sr4 or gat out of hell but when I heard of this reboot I was hoping they were gonna bring back the charm and flow of 1-3 maybe with time and patches can hopefully make the game feel fun. I absolutely adored SR3 back in the day. When 4 came out I was very excited but ended up playing for maybe two hours max because I ended up really not liking it. I was stoked to see them doing this reboot but feel quite disappointed. It just doesn’t look fun or even unique. Glad to have a channel that gives honest genuine reviews though.
I liked sr4 with the whole matrix vibez gat from hell was basically the same as sr4 you just playing as gat which was fun for me but I bought all the games on digital sale sooo my views might be one-sided 😅😅

Really do appreciate your honesty with it, and that you recognize that others may enjoy it too. I love the Saint's Row series of games, but the more that I watched trailers for this game the more I got the sense that this was gonna be like the new Crackdown games. Not necessarily bad but devoid of what made the originals fun. Probably will pass on this game for now, maybe pick it up after its been out for a while. Apprecaite all the work this channel does to bring these Before You Buy videos, they are incredibly helpful!

Crackdown 3 was more of a Crackdown game than Crackdown 2. It had the exact mechanics of the first game. Anyone who shit on it clearly doesn't remember the first game.
@@nBasedAce Wasn't trying to shit on it. It just didn't hit the same marks as the first one did, at least for me. if you enjoyed 3 that's great, I'm glad you did. For me it just fell off very quickly the more that I played and something about it felt off to me. Not a bad game by any means, just felt kind of....meh. And it having the same mechanics as the first game doesn't mean it will be as good. What made Crackdown 1 great back then, isn't exactly revolutionary nowadays. And for me it just didn't offer anything new. And with Saint's Row, I'm just gonna give it some time. Let them patch some things up, maybe add some new content and then I might be willing to pick it up later. Doesn't look bad at all, it just doesn't grab my attention right now.
i wish we could a mixture of crackdown 1 and 2. i really liked the open world and character/suit upgrades for crackdown 2 but i really really loved how the cars would transform if your driving level was maxed in the first game.

@@moises9090 big SR2 PC Patch that was in the works for a while by Idolninja because they managed to recover SR2s source code. The idea of it was to overhaul the pc version of sr2 to actually be decent. Fixed a lot of bugs added the dlcs and supposedly other quality of life stuff from when Idolninja made Gentlemen of the Row. Sadly we haven’t heard a lot about it since Idolninja’s passing last august. Last thing we got is that it was going on the back burner to focus on this Reboot and deep silver/volition promised to finish it in honor of Idolninja and all his contributions to the community afterwards.

I disagree about trying to satisfy old fans:
- Old Characters are gone, no where to be found, if there's any references where are they?
- They censored the Humor of the old games 2-4 Massively

If you've never watched ACG though he's legit, I like how he breaks his reviews down into sound, gameplay, etc and he will give an opinion on whether it's worth 60 or to wait for it to go on sale or never touch it. I loved one and 2. In fact saints row 2 for me was probably one of my most played games ever. It had so much replay value. I loved the customization, and one thing I seriously loved that games don’t do anymore, I loved how you could pick your voice. I don’t mean just grunting and moaning and breathing. I mean you literally picked a voice actor. There would be a basic script but each voice actor had their own flavor. Like I’m Hispanic and if you picked the Hispanic voice he would speak Spanglish. Which was great. I feel like if fallout 4 had that ability to choose from several different voice actors, it wouldn’t have gotten as much flak for having a voice actor. Even though Starfield doesn’t have a voiced protagonist I kind of wish it did if we got to pick the voice. But anyways, a reboot could’ve done saints row wonders if they took it a little seriously again. We have yet to have a game that lets us have our own cartel. It could’ve went down that route if it didn’t want to go down the typical gang route. A mafia or cartel would’ve been a cool spin while being new.

i played it first with a brittish guy, then i played it again with a female Boss and it was still fun,
I bought it against my better judgement and am surprisingly enjoying it myself. It's definitely fun for me so far. The shooting for me is a little steep up there's a setting to snap to new target which is nice. One thing they do need to fix is the in game character creation you can't do some things that was in the original games but you also get some things that weren't in the original games.

I can find some fun to be had playing the game and that could be partly because I have barely any soul to speak of either but please don't go ruining other people's fun with the game.

I won't lie, I'm still gonna buy it because what I love more then anything in games is customization and with saints row you always had the potential to make the look however you want. That and I do want to play a gta like game that's silly. I'm exhausted of gta at the moment and have loved saints row 2 and 3. I liked 4 but when I was able to get superpowers that made faster than the cars I started to dislike it but Saints row 4 always had some funny moments and I live to laugh with over the top stuff. I have a gamestop card with 25 bucks on it so i'mma use that to pay for half and I'll just pay for the other so if I don't like I don't feel completely ripped off.
Once again gameranx saved me a heartache I lost my love for the series after 2 and was hoping this would go back to it's roots I'm glad some people are enjoying it but just off of gameplay alone I could tell I would've been disappointed maybe I'm wrong and I'll live it as much as the first 2 but I'm not willing to risk the money until it's discounted or I can find it used if there isn't really much of a story gets me immersed in the world I don't have the free time as I did when I was younger to find the smaller things more enjoyable but once again to each it's own and I appreciate everything everyone does at gameranx for us as a gaming community. I feel like people are comparing too much to the old SR games. It's a reboot, not a sequel. It's the process of restarting something old with a new foundation. If it's not for you that's understandable. But a lot of the review complaints I hear stem from comparison and that's really not fair to the game itself.
I'm the same as the reviewer, a fan of this series no matter how crazy it was as it was fun. I was hesitant about pre-ordering and I'm glad I was. I'll wait until it is on game pass to play. I had it on preorder and completely forgot. Wish I had waited a while, it should’ve had more time put into it. The streets are empty, the random sandstorm I encountered when loading into a save basically impaired my sight, the amount of times I have had to restart a mission from a checkpoint due to enemies not spawning in or being outside the combat area is ridiculous and that’s not even the half of it.

Was 4 the one where there was an alien invasion and the entire world was a simulation? If so that was my favorite. It really pushed the zany and ridiculous even for a Saint's Row game. Ity had a dubstep gun, an Alien abduction gun, a black hole gun, and you could get bad ass super powers! I have spent countless hours in that game when I was a kid.

see i really liked the super powers and wish they would've expanded upon it and allowed you to just use them instead of guns. i can't stand the shooting in saints row it is soo....dead like their is no real feedback it just feels basic and shitty. i found myself mostly using super speed and sprint takedowns and found myself jumping in the air and launching my fist down a lot since the powers took forever to recharge

What I always appreciate about these guys reviews, they always say "this particular thing didn't really do it for me but it may do something for you". Like they acknowledge that this is their opinion and that doesn't mean you personally won't like or dislike the game they are talking about and they don't go around busting chops if u do end up liking the game or w.e., they don't say things like "you'd have to be stupid to like this" or what have you. They simply tell us their opinions and thoughts and let you take what u want out of that opinion
All that stuff should go without saying. They shouldnt have to say "Its my opinion" in order for someone to realize its their opinion.

The good with this kind of review is it is quick and easy to take in, the bad is it is very shallow and purely depends on subjectivity.

While it looks modern etc it still plays like Sr3 witch is very janky at times and feels like a step back compared to current day games and most people probably expected it to feel like gta when the franchise has never felt like that

Damn... I was really hoping this would be another Saints Row I could enjoy. SRGooH was a super bummer for me and, being the last SR game I played, was a sour way to end the series I absolutely loved. Seeing this one flop is worrisome for the future; i'll keep my eyes on it, thanks Gameranx.

Honestly, I'm just curious about Santo Ileso. I preordered back in late 2021 with the expectation that access to the open world was going to be on par with the first two Saint's Row games - plenty of interiors, the ability to buy food to replenish health, stores being open or closed depending on the time of day, and enemies randomly attacking your strongholds - to name a few. In the last 24 hours, I've learned that those features - features that were present in the original 16-year-old title - are not present. I'm disappointed but not surprised. After all, this is what happens when shareholders dictate the game development process, causing incomplete, buggy, or downright bad games to be released.
NOTE: On August 22, 2022. the parent company's share price tanked about 12%. Sadly, some developers' careers will end over this.

Yeah do the gaming industry a solid and remember no preorder, its what they want for the shareholders to prove that they have something. They need to prove it to US above all else since we decide rather a game is a hit or not. Sucks that a dev might lose a job but Volition has had many a mistep and layoffs before to learn and not make the same mistake. Looks like they just didnt listen to fans yet again.
Fun fact, right now on ps5 if you try to apply the trigger resistance in the settings the game will actually apply inverted movement and the trigger resistance won't even work anyway
It makes me so sad that we live in a world where an unfinished game is released and then a massive day one patch is issued, and its considered normal.... it feels like "heres your new car! The tires come later though"

I'm a huge Saints Row Fan, played 1-4 and Gat out of Hell (2-GooH on PC ). I was so hyped to hear about a new Saints Row game coming out and I was already willing to pre order it. Now after seeing a few gameplay videos and this review I'm glad it was Epic Exclusive, Epic literally saved me money which I'd have otherwise spent for pre ordering the game or even buying it day 1. Maybe I give it a try in a year when it's released on Steam and in some sort of Sale. From what I saw so far it looks like not worth the $60 but it could be pretty okayish for like $25.
I never played any of the old Saints Row games but I'm tempted this one. Having not played the previous games so I'm not sure I'll understand the things that don't work for you personally but I love the fact that you're always 100% honest. I can always rely on this channel for helping me choose new games. Immortals Fenyx Rising and Lost Judgement, Outer Worlds in particular being my personal favourites discovered by Gameranx and hey I'll even go as far as saying they're some of the best and most memorable games I've ever played but it's the negative points that kinda make or break me wanting a game. I love how this looks and this cool open world but after the combat review, it's making me think back to some disappointing games so I'll chew on this one. Thanks again Gameranx! You rule.

I always enjoy the honesty of these videos. I’ve been playing saints row 2022 since yesterday afternoon, and I’m finding myself enjoying the game. It’s not as over the top as the previous entries which could be why it seems lackluster to some. It feels like a game that is going back to the start with hindsight of what the fans enjoyed. I’ve had a few bugs but nothing too game breaking for me.

I personally preferred saints row 1 and 2 for the gangs and watching how they'd change as you do more missions, i personally didn't like 3 and stopped caring when they want wackiness over cohesiveness, and seeing saints row 3 's micro transactions, i got a feeling thats gonna be the cash cow for the game, it may be fun but i'd rather a game that allows for gangs to seem realish but no, everything needs to be borderlands which i personally don't like

This is the exact same feeling I had. Saints Row 2 had organic wackiness just because you could do whatever you wanted but was created by a really solid story and fun to play game. 3 was just too over the top and tried to force the wackiness over actually making a solid game.

Personally I got into Saints Row at 3 and 4. Never tried GooH mostly because I love the character customization in 3 and 4. Saints Row just felt so much more fun than GTA. I didn't have to worry about running out of money or players killing me when I just wanna do my objectives. Saints Row 3 and 4 felt like fun escapes for me and I genuinely enjoy the characters and story however silly they may be. I was very hesitant looking at this reboot because while I get some fans don't like the silliness, I'm completely here for it and while it seems like customization for characters is still there, I'm not sure if I'd have fun with it. I miss saints Row 3's octo launcher. I loved the goofy sci-fi story in 4. They were very fun games for me. Idk if this seems like something I'd wanna play unless I tried a demo of it.

Here’s a fix for the controls bug that helped me on ps5: go back to the church and spawn a helicopter and fly around in it. One you get out of it you should be able to shoot again.

I think my favorite saints row, was the 2nd. The soundtrack was fire, the whackyness, hilarious! And the enemy gangs memorable.
I downloaded the "boss" creator. I wasn't impressed with the character creation, I could not, for the life of me make my character "good looking" no matter how hard I tried, my ppl ended up looking like npcs in oblivion :/ so I took that as being a meh game and decided to stay away until I saw some reviews

I was really hoping more emphasis on the crime startup, more systems like nemesis (copium) like random characters that join you that can make your single-player experience more unique. The only thing i saw that was cool is the territory assets you can get but sadly that is it and that system should've been connected to building your army of crime soldiers which should be connected to invasions of future territories to make it more epic and worth it.
The nemesis system is licensed by shadow of war (warner bros) until 2035.... You are dreaming if you think anyone can use it.... If you see something new and fun in a game usualy they monopolise that by licensing for 20 years and destroying the gamming industry by blocking acces to stuff.
@@highflyerwolfynho4599 from what someone told me i think you can do system similar to nemesis but you cannot use the coding that makes nemesis, I could be wrong though. That is my hope in seeing something similar to nemesis in the future before I die of old age...

They copied and pasted from Just cause sadly not Shadows of mordor. Wish more games had a nemesis like system as it was a pretty good one.
Please make another before you buy video after this latest update! Apparently they have overhauled basically the whole game, changed/rebalanced the combat, fixed stuff that wasn't working, and added new content to boot! I'm holding out hope that it might be worth forking over the money for, but I want you hear what Gameranx thinks!

Been playing Sleeping Dogs lately and been a fun open world with great story
Sleeping Dogs is an incredible game! Definitely a standout in the genre.

So, personally, Agents of Mayhem is one of my favorite games. It definitely wasn't perfect and some missions I could have lived a happier life without ever having to endure them, but for the most part, Agents of Mayhem was a fun and satisfying game, at least for me. I still want to try this game, it looks like I may actually like it. Then I can add it to my list of "Games I like that nobody else cares about" with Agents of Mayhem and Crackdown 3
