- Intense closing arguments took place on Wednesday morning where both state and defense gave their reasons as to why they believe accused killer Nicolae Miu is guilty or not guilty. The jury is still deliberating a verdict. Miu is accused of stabbing a teenager to death, and injuring four others, while tubing on the Apple River in Wisconsin back in July of 2022. Isaac Schuman, 17, was killed and Rhyley Mattison, 24, suffered severe stab wounds. Miu is facing multiple charges including first-degree intentional homicide, attempted first-degree homicide, and battery with a dangerous weapon. Miu claims he acted in self-defense.

If you watch ALL the videos of the incident and Miu's conversations with the police and his testimony and the witness testimonies, there's NO WAY any rational person could say he's not guilty! This man's life was never in danger, he had ample opportunity to leave but choose not to. And he was the aggressor. HE was the one who initiated contact with the teens. He was the first to assault someone. He was the only one with a weapon. You can't kill people just because they insult you! And then he tried to disguise himself, threw away his weapon, and escaped the scene of the crime while lying to everyone about what happened! If he was innocent , then why did he run away and lie to everyone? There's NO excuse for what he did!

Imho the video speaks for itself. He lied to the police , the “kids” lied on the stand. So take the lies out of it. When I see the video, I see a mob who attacked a man. There’s ZERO evidence Madison was hit. The guy on the video would have mentioned it while narrating if he saw that. Everything they claim he did to instigate was conveniently not caught on the video but the beat down was and the video speaks for itself. I would vote not guilty.

Isaac put his hands on Nic's neck and caused Nic to fall backwards. Makes sense that his knife would start low and go up as he is falling. Sorry the kid died but his actions caused his death. The boys that stayed back and didn't put their hands on Nic walked away unharmed. You have a right to defend yourself.

My only problem was him lying at his arrest and during the interrogation right after the event. I found him very truthful during his testimony. I believe that most of the witnesses lied and were generally unbelievable in some cases. I think that he was very fearful once they pushed him the water and were punching him, and he snapped. He was clearly out matched. And being jabbed by so many people screaming and those crazy women screaming in his face when they were all encircling him. Those kids and adults have some culpability. I think that he is not guilty of murder.
It’s hard to blame him because even if in the moment you’re sure you were justified you never know if a jury will see it that way. He could have easily spent the rest of his life in prison.
Even if you successfully meet all the legal elements of self defense. It's clear cut! The prosecutor thinks he won't get a conviction, but he/she is only charges because of public & political pressure.
You STILL have a 10% chance of being found guilty & spending the rest of your life in jail.
I also think the group should be charged! and if any of them were under aged and drinking their parents should be charged with something also.

The courts are being more aggressive about going after parents and holding them responsible for their child's character flaws. While absurd, doesn't take away that it's now happening. And I do agree with the person who posted, their parents should be charged. We are fully responsible for our child's behavior until they are 18. It's called parenting.

I do not understand why he told so many lies if he was really defending himself. Why not just go to his group after he did what he did, tell them and tell them he needs the police to explain what happened? Why run away, throw away the weapon and ask the police if any one was stabbed? Too many unexplained bad choices by this man. While the teens may have been annoying and became physical, his actions that followed do not make any logical sense for an innocent man. I'm interested to see how the jury will see this. I'm happy I'm not a juror on this case.

Prosecutors know their case is weak , the attempt to swap out a juror today shows desperation.
The juror fell asleep during the trial for like an hour. She kept nodding her head up and down. If you were on trial, would you want this juror.
@@craiglockwood981… Mui’s attorneys would have asked the judge to dismiss the juror who was nodding off during the video if she had been one of the states juror picks. The fact that Mui’s attorneys wanted to keep her tells me she was one of the ppl they selected from the jury pool. They haven’t picked the jurors who will be deliberating so she might not get picked.
there ios case law that does not allow sleeping jurors. The had an obligation lawfully to call it out.
and they added lesser charges when they knew they had already lost the case.

I've looked for a news report recap but haven't found much. I guess all the news reporters are depending on the live feed and are not actually n the court room.

Multiple people did and it only lasted about 1 minute 49 seconds. Tom Carlson tried to stop them and end the situation and Miu stabbed at him twice.

You need to watch the trial when they talk to Miu. Day 7.
I don't think it's possible for the jury to conclude beyond a reasonable doubt that Miu was not acting in self defense. Therefore they will not be able to convict on anything. Not guilty or less likely a hung jury.

@@kentdelahay2336 it doesn't matter if he lied about it after the fact, or that he walked away. Self-defense is in the act itself, not what one does after. At least that's how the law determines it.
The father that was in the Maddison group concocted the baloney that his gang got involved because the teens were yelling for help. He knew is sons were culpable because they too got involved and the “ we heard them yell for help” was made up by that dad to keep his sons out of the jackpot. I hope Miu sues them all. Miu is Not Guilty , Self Defense was proven.

The father of the Maddison gang is completely culpable, he provided the alcohol, he made up the lie about hearing the teens yell for help. He knew he had to give a reason that his group including his two sons, even got involved. That father and every punk , especially Maddison, should be sued by Miu for the agony that they caused.

Nothing really matters until just before Miu starts to stab people. Even the part about whether or not Madison was punched. What matters was the amount of force Miu used to defend himself. Also at that moment when just before he started stabbing people did he fear great bodily harm or death were about to happen to him. The answer is No. The assault was over. He only got hit 3 times in the head. No bruising or cuts on his face. This is not great bodily harm or death being eminent. Then of course did the use of lethal force (the knife) justified. I can't see how. At best it was a fist fight not a life and death battle.
The jury shouldn't have to come back into the courtroom to view different snippets of a video, or any evidence, for that matter.. It should be made available to all of them in their deliberation room. What if a jury member wants to see it repeatedly? That Jawaan (big kid filming/screaming like a hyena) needs to be charged and prosecuted. He is the main reason this whole thing went wrong. Imagine if the kids had just stopped and helped this guy find the phone instead? Weren't these kids taught empathy, compassion, and kindness? As a parent, if I had seen/heard my kids carry on that way, I would be appalled and feel ashamed. The whole situation is disgusting.

The only thing he is guilty of is lying and I think he just wanted to block it out ,out of sheer terror. The video tells the true story for everyone to see and hear with their own eyes and ears. He 100% defended himself those boys and women were out of control , thought it was funny attacking him and wanted a video for social media purely for clicks. The father of the Maddison group especially. He was actually proving that gang with the alcohol and they consumed it in his presence. He knew he and his group which includes his two sons would be in big trouble so he concocted the lie about his gang getting involved because the teens yelled for help. Maddison is the reason it escalated she lied about Nic hitting her. That father in their group made up the “ hit” and the cry for help. He is a slick operator who understands HE is in big trouble if the verdict is Not Guilty, which it will be. I hope Miu sues him and every liar in his gang.

I’ve watched every second and all I see is self defense. Nothing Miu did after the incident matters because in the second of the stabbings, he defended himself. Even if someone believed he acted in 1% self defense, it’s a NOT GUILTY verdict by law.

Bri you are not alone in this I feel the exact same, I am comforted to come across your message, my husband just yesterday said he is worried about me and when I asked why he said he is worried how the outcome will effect me if the verdict is guilty, I do not believe Nicolae is a bad man for one minute, I do not believe he would have acted the way he did in self defence if he did not believe his life was in real danger, I think he felt fragile from a quadruple bypass which is absolutely no walk in the park and felt scared and outnumbered.
