The Ultimate Florida Woman Gives Cops a Run For Their Money

- Bodycam, dashcam, and helicopter footage show a dramatic pursuit that unfolded in Florida in May. The incident began when Alexandria Mason was stopped by deputies in a St. Augustine McDonald's parking lot around 7:30 p.m. Upon discovering Mason had an active felony warrant from another county, deputies attempted to arrest her. Mason, however, refused to comply and fled the scene, initiating a high-speed chase that spanned nearly 30 miles, with speeds surpassing 120mph. The pursuit extended into Duval County, where the Florida Highway Patrol joined the effort. The chase concluded when law enforcement successfully executed a PIT maneuver. Following the incident, Mason faced numerous charges. She subsequently pleaded guilty to DUI, aggravated fleeing and eluding, and possession of a controlled substance, resulting in a sentence of 10 months in jail and 12 months of probation. Mason still has pending charges in two other Florida counties.

You know it's a bad day when the Highway Patrol uses a pit stop maneuver on a car and the fugitive hits you and puts you into the wall.

The state has sovereign immunity and therefore cannot be sued unless the state explicitly allows you to, the criminal's insurance (if they even have insurance) will deny coverage because they always deny coverage if the collision occured during the commission of a crime.
And your insurance may not cover such incidents if you don't have comprehensive/collision insurance.

Civilian was taken out in the process and it will be very inconvenient and time consuming to get the police to pay for it.
One would imagine if that driver was insured their insurance would cover it, at least initially and then “go after” the department’s insurance company to recoup what they paid out for their policy holder.
That way as you said they’re not in insurance limbo while waiting to get thru all the red tape.

@@Squivey3577It is incumbent on the officer to not PIT a vehicle that is adjacent to a civilian vehicle. It is literally within PIT certification 101 to have that situational awareness and to employ that tactic in appropriate conditions.

I was t-boned on the passenger side of my car by a police officer running a red light going over 100 MPH. He was on his way to a shooting in a bar. This was his third wreck in a year while on duty. Forty years on and I am still pushing thru back pain every day. Serious car accidents are life changing. And yes, I sued but I have spent much more money on chiropractors, massage therapists, and doctors trying to live a normal than I won in that lawsuit.
Only 10 months in jail for putting countless lives at risk, wasting huge amouts of police resources, as well as tax payers resources. She needs 5 years in prison, far away from law abiding citizens.

@@JW_Hue lol MANY police departments use the PIT maneuver in situations like this. Police recklessness is pretty much written in the constitution because they are immune from prosecution for the most part.

Thank you. I'm a native and the majority of Florida is transplants, tourists and transients. They are a huge part of the problem others mock. Granted we grow some crazies but we have a double dosage of outliers.

There is absolutely no logical reason for this dangerous pursuit. LE continues to put innocent drivers lives at stake, regardless of it being a misdemeanor or felony stop.
He told the other deputy to bring his car up to the front. Wasn't that enough for them to understand to pin her in without her knowing? I wonder why he said "I'm gonna pin her" or something to that effect on the radio within earshot of her. Maybe he assumed she wasn't listening while she was talking. But as she seems to be a paranoid person, she might actually pay more attention to things people say to each other rather than what people say directly to her.
The other cop didn’t take the hint, he was still standing there so he told him.
She wasn’t too disabled to take the police on a high speed chase for 30 miles.
