That was lovely. As British Jamaican that's how my parents made it. I'm convinced that is why I'm so healthy at ahe 66 people thinks that I'm in my 30's because its a staple in my family's regimen.
I would love mine heated as a child. My aunt ( who made it) would always tell me it was for men. I never understood that at the time of course. I would say "but I want to be strong too" LOL. Thanks for the sweet memory!
@@JerenesEats Lol, actually, my aunt would have it with her friends in a glass w/ice and, unbeknownst to me, they would put liquor in their glasses. One day, I snuck a sip of my aunt's glass LOL. I don't remember what I thought about the taste at the time, but I don't think I cared for it too much, but when I got home, and my mother would heat it up after taking it out of the refrigerator to give some to my father, she would give me a small cup of it and that's what I fell in love with. It was never thick like porridge, but it was delicious none the less. When I make it (or my version of it) today, I just combine the meat and water from a couple of young Thai coconuts, add my sea moss, vanilla, and a pinch of ceylon cinnamon, and I can recreate that same feeling from way back when. CORRECT! If you notice, I said both at 6:54 I said both pronounciations so that viewers from different backgrounds could know what I'm talking about. The correct pronounciation is 'ICZING' but some yardies say 'ISING' when you purchase it in the West Indian stores. This is why at around 6:20 in the video I mentioned that this is the SECOND option. There are different ways of doing this. Some folks like to boil it and consume the liquid it was boiled in WHILE some don't boil it because of their concern about loss of nutrients..
I was in the store looking for this yesterday to no avail. I'll keep looking though because I'm hungry for Irish Moss. BTW I just made your pudding recipe and it is divine. My husband said it will be even better when it cools down.
Yes! When it cools you'll get better slices. Also I keep it at room temperature for only one day. After that straight into the fridge because of the soft top. I just heat up a slice when I'm ready.
Thank you for the recipe! I did a lot of research on that brand as it's widely available in stores and I bought it once myself. FYI, it is pool grown in Pennsylvania, not wild crafted from the Caribbean 🙂
Yeah, usually I get mine from a friend who lives in St. Ann, Jamaica but it was all used up so I used what was readily available for the video. It's not something I consume daily so I'm not really worried about whether it was pool grown or not 😁 You may use your wild seamoss for this recipe just the same 😁
