Hey everyone! Great news for you, embarassing for me: The BDI Corridor that everyone loves so much is NOT discontinued! BDI let me know it is still very much in production and continues to be its best-selling media console -- no shock there! I still get asked about it all the time. Anyway, if you've been eyeing one after seeing it in so many of our videos from prior years, you can still get it!
was wondering about that, The Corridor has got to be there biggest seller. I almost bought one a few years back but they are very expensive and I would have had a hard time getting it in my house. Got one at Crate and Barrel that looks similar to it for a third of the price. Wish the backs were removable like the BDI. Now that I have a new home one can dream..... It's the most beautiful TV stand ive ever seen and its practical, so darn practical.
I really love their furniture, especially the tv consoles and the coffee table that unfolds into a desk but they cost a fortune in Australia. The large tv consoles cost $5-$6,000 AUD. that's way too much for me.
I definitely want to see more on projectors and screens. Btw, that cinema question: For me, yes the screen size does have an impact as does the setting but for me, what makes a movie at the cinema so much more enjoyable than at home is the sound. The all encompassing, impact full sound is what really makes cinema viewing exciting. This aspect to enjoying the film to the fullest is by far the most difficult and most expensive aspect to recreate. A home cinema can be an even better experience than commercial cinemas but it takes a dedicated room and a massive budget. Whereas we can get an incredible experience visually relatively affordably.
I have had large screen TV’s for quite a while now - mostly LG OLEDs, but once they made the decision to stop adding 3D capability, I decided to try the AWOL 3500 short throw for my media room. It is NOT OLED, but it is sensational! Vibrant, Dolby Vision and a 120 inch 3D image that surpasses any theater experience I have ever had. I have 300 or so 3D films and I will not go down without a fight :)

I upgraded my 50" 720p plasma to an LG G3 77" and it is fantastic! I love the picture quality, the brightness, and the black levels. But when my friends came over recently, I pulled out my BenQ TH671ST projector and my Blu-ray "Flight of the Butterflies". I gave them the active 3D glasses that cost about $35 on Amazon. They were absolutely amazed at the butterflies that appeared to flutter before them in 3D. This was a 140" projection on just my matte painted wall. This was at night though.
A big deal that doesn’t get talked about enough with projectors is that they can properly display 23.976 fps film content. Current sample-and-hold based displays (OLED, LCD) have to display this content at 24fps which results in judder.
Laser projectors are also capable of displaying over 100% of Rec 2020 color. Nothing else can touch that number right now. Not even Micro LED.
Spot on. I have a LG OLED TV and it just does not look cinematic the way my Sony projector does. Blocked blacks are also an issue on OLED.
Thanks for the info about DLP vs. LCD (vs. OLED, etc.) I didn't know there were big differences in response times.
In terms of projector vs. TV for large screens, a projector and screen wins for logistics. One person can hang a screen and set up a projector. As an owner of several large TVs, plasma and OLED, I've always had to get help with moving and mounting TVs.
While projectors can't match the brightness and black level of an OLED flat panel, I wouldn't trade my JVC NZ7 for anything. 😅 I love watching films on my 2.35:1 130-inch screen.
Yeah I wouldn’t. I’m rocking a BenQ W4000i (4K DLP) and I wouldn’t trade that for anything either- except maybe a better projector- and the DLP doesn’t have nearly the contrast of your JVC .
People think 85” is big. People actually think these new 100” screens are big. Nah. My screen is 120 and when I upgrade to acoustically transparent I’ll be going 140-150”.
I have much the same attitude about my JVC NZ9.
I’m actually running my NZ7 on a wall painted flat white, no screen. I’ve tried a screen material sampler pack and found that while some screens make certain scenes better they also always make other scenes worse. Flat white paint on a smooth wall consistently did a great job in my light-controlled home theater.
Even if a tv is 85’ I can’t go back to a dull picture after seeing Dolby Vision.
@@peat381low8 I have a 65-inch OLED flat panel in my living room and I can't tell the difference between a regular HDR and Dolby Vision. Guess my eyes aren't as sophisticate like the people who can tell the difference. 🤔
Thanks for this video--and a resounding yes, please definitely do more projector reviews. I think the Laser TV market (UST + floor-rising ALR screen) is especially the one to watch in how it fares against increasingly large TVs.
An 85-inch mini led tv can still be big enough for a modest home theater room. It doesn’t have to be a giant room. And it will save you thousands of dollars and will always have superior peak brightness for today’s shows and movies in Dolby Vision. And it won’t blow hot air into your room and make noises.
Yes, more projectors and setups please! I fairly new to projector home theatre and because of my budget I am limited. My 4K HDR 120" setup costs $1000 and although I am happy with it for now, I'll be looking to upgrade in the future. Your comparison of DLP (which I have) and LCD as relates to detail and clarity was the best I've ever read - you are the man!

I feel like this is a recurring topic among content creators that focus on home theater and I'm here for it! I myself have an LG 83" C2 mounted in my theater room. My room is currently under its final renovation so I've set things up for a future long throw projector with thoughts of maybe a drop down screen. But honestly I don't know if the juice is worth the squeeze.
Projector. It is more impactful and more relaxing on your eyes. Since the image is reflected and not shined into your eyeballs.
We JUST received delivery on an 85-inch TCL QM8... OH EM GEE. I'm setting it up while watching this, and the clarity is wonderful. My entire living room is windows, and it has pretty much eliminated the reflection issue we dealt with just yesterday with my Samsung Q80B 65-inch TV.
The auto detection of the gaming console, 4k Bluray player and OTA were instant. I'm a Samsung guy and the Google UI/OS is smooth.
My first big TV is impressive so far. And, yes, I have insurance lol

You really need to review the JVC line of projectors I have the RS4100 / NZ9 and it is amazing on my 50” x 120” Stewart cinema screen.

In my country, where technology is so expensive, making the right decision is Paramount. Your Channel always help with that.
I've had a Hisense 120" UST for a while now. It's the one bit of entertainment gear I've ever bought that made my *wife* say "this is the best purchase we've ever made." She loves it, I love it. It's not a perfect experience - HDR is basically useless (I've turned it off), black level of course depends on your room lighting, color accuracy isn't the best, and of course setup took like a full day. But once you go that big, you can never go back. It really is like having a movie theater in your house, and it does just look different - smoother and less harsh. All else being equal (including price), I'd take a 120" OLED over a projector for the better accuracy, HDR and (relative) ease of moving it around (a projector screen does need to be carefully mounted, not just plopped on a stand). But size really does matter and projectors do offer a somewhat unique viewing experience vs. a direct-view TV.

I discussed this on my channel last week. I concur that projectors are not going anywhere, anytime soon. Both large format TV’s and projectors have their place. I am not convinced that large format TVs are not going to replace ultra short throw projectors.
Your double negative has me wondering what you meant in your last sentence. Are you convinced that large format TVs are going to replace UST projectors?
Try the HDFury switches for solving HDMI issues with Sonos Arc. I’m using the 8K VRROOM to switch multiple sources with a dedicated eARC out to the Sonos Arc. Haven’t tried using multiple displays, but it has the capability for it.
I have had issues with a 2022 The Frame TV and HDCP handshakes with my existing Onkyo receiver over eARC to the point of returning the TV. Samsung service techs went through the service menu and couldn’t see any HDCP errors. The one connect box was replaced, but the issue continued. From my reading, it appears to be an issue with the software in the One Connect box as these errors didn’t occur with my old Panasonic TV. I didn’t have a HDMI switcher in the equation, but I am guessing the One Connect box software probably won’t like a switch in the equation as it seems to be finicky with HDCP handshakes or connections.
Cinematic experience ? Of course I take a 4k Laser tv projector, I dont care about the black levels or the few blurry areas due to pixel shift, the experience is amazing 😊🙏

My exact thoughts
In our last house I had a Runco 3-chip DLP 1080p projector with a Stewart 110” 2:35-1 screen, and while I loved it, it was crazy expensive. In our new house I bought a Sony A90J Master Series 83” OLED, and to me it still has a god-level picture even compared to the new A95L. I do enjoy the simplicity, brightness and black levels of a TV, but do miss the size of a projector as well as the anamorphic screen. Any content you can do regarding large (98-100”) new panels as well as modern projector options would be greatly appreciated for my next upgrade. Can’t wait to see what’s new from Sony this years as well.
Wow! A Runco 3-chip DLP is about the best you can get for a projector. No spinning color wheels and the associated migraine headaches involved with single chip DLP (the base of these new ultra short throw projectors), and better contrast and black levels than LCD projectors. One of those in 4K would be amazing, but like you say, those 3-chip DLP projectors are "crazy expensive".
Thank you Caleb for this info! I have a dedicated theater/projection room with no ambient light using an Epson 5020 UB projector and Integra 50.2 receiver. The screen is 92 inches and I find that tvs have finally made it to this size point with some tvs exceeding my projector size. But, we recently got a 48” LG A2 OLED and I find myself awestruck watching that tv more than my projector because of the added clarity and amazing contrast. I was happy with the projector until I got the OLED, and now tvs are actually costing less than projectors and they’re bigger than my 92” screen! I just don’t know what to do🥴
Upgrade your projector, those ultra bright OLED panels may look stunning when new
but sooner rather than later the dreaded screen burn will be an issue.
Your projector is ancient and 92" is tiny by PJ standards. Any of these ~100" TVs will look far better. Contrast, brightness, HDR, gaming, etc will all be far superior. It's not even a competition.

Those giant size TV's will have a very limited life, just look at the warranty they come with!
The specifications that they boast about are not always true.
Some of us have more sense than money to be fooled by them.

try replacing the panel in a 92" screen, it will take hours just to remove all the screws!

them fail.
The latest models from China are made with underated components, hence the miserly warranty.

Wondering how the Premiere 8k will fare this year. I’ve been very happy with the Epson LS12000 the last couple years but would consider upgrading.
I bought an Onkyo HTIB about 12 years ago (7.1 with a receiver). I recently upgraded my receiver to a Sony AZ5000 and want to upgrade speakers now too (bookshelf form factor) with a budget up to $2,500. Recommendations?

I have been a UST fanatic since the Optoma 5500GT UST. With military bases around me, UST is a better fit for apartment rentals that don't allow for hanging a big screen TV on their walls (screens are light, and floor rising eliminates all that). Recently picked up the Awolvision LTV-3500 for demos and displays, a major step up from my Optoma Cinemax P1, with amazing brightness and color, which I now understand why it seems to be at the top of the UST shootouts, especially with being able to have a sharp in focus image at 150". FYI - Samsung The Wall - 146" is $280,000 and the 110" Direct View is $150,000
Certainly would be interesting more coverage of the latest projector tech. I've used high-end projectors for the last 25-years, predominantly for films/movies, and they do present a cinematic experience. I'm now switching to a high-end TV. I don't think I'll miss the projector noise, exhaust emissions despite filters, cleaning filters, changing lamps, adjustments and ensuring it's dark, but let's see what you come up with...
The issue for me in that sets over 100 inches have issues getting into rooms, down or up stairs. Otherwise, I will take an OLED over a projector every time,
Use projector for 20 yrs, but this year a 100” tv is now affordable and more usable in living room! Definitely getting a 100” TV in 2024!

My friend picked up a blackbird and it worked for about a month before it stopped passing audio over HDMI. Got it the same time she updated all her HDMI cables to monoprice ultra high speed cables. Can't figure out why it quit. At least it was cheap.
I have had Epson EH-TW9400 in my cinema room (with a 106" screen) for more than 4 years. A week ago, I got 100" Hisense U7K. I was scared if I will ruin my cinematic experience, as I have been using projectors for more than a decade. I have completely light controlled dedicated cinema room (even the ceilings are covered with black pyramid acoustic foam panels). After a week, I think I made the right choice. When the lights are off, I don’t even think if I am watching a TV, it is the very same experience with a better picture (at least for me).
It's annoying how true, native 4K TV's are easy and cheap to come buy, but they're often too small to appreciate the 4K.
Meanwhile, projectors can display an image large enough to really appreciate 4K. But true, native 4K projectors are still prohibitively expensive... The relatively affordable "4K" projectors are FauxK. They cheat, using pixel shift methods to approximate the increased sharpness of 4K.
Agreed. I got impatient, picked up a JVC NZ7 when they came out because I really wanted a native 4K image. But you would think that more affordable true 4K HDR home theater projectors would have hit the market by now.
BTW, the NZ7 has the option to do fake half 8K, but I disabled that.
Not cheating at all, and at reasonable viewing distances you won't see a difference in sharpness in a native 4k projector vs a good DLP 4x shift setup.

Regarding the section at 12:00.....I had a similar discussion recently around Sony's unveiling of the 4000nit reference monitor panels and if we'll find that future Sony LEDs with this tech are closer to creator intent vs. OLEDs....especially with the clear path to more ROI and margins with those LED panels going forward.
My parents have a Mitsubishi DLP tv still and I am always impressed with the motion handling. Not susceptible to the rainbow effect (can’t remember if that’s as common on the 6 color wheel ones like this). It definitely had some upsides but unsurprising lcd became the mainstream tv tech.

you can certainly get a 98 or 110-inch tv for below $5000.00. But factor in the installation, heaviness, and mobility if you want to move. So, I prefer a 4000 lumens high-end projector which can be more portable, especially UST. Plus, look at the power consumption of a 100-inch TV vs. a laser UST which projects 120 inches.. you will be surprised how much juice the TV takes. just some food for thought.
Please review newer ultra short throw projectors that are 120” or more.
The sad reality here is that traditional projectors simply are not selling. Only about one out of every 5,000 customers that walk in the door at any electronics store today are even remotely interested in projectors. There just is no demand for them today, at all. Want to consider ultra short throw projectors? Only maybe one in every 25,000 customers that walk in show any interest in those.
They only make sense in a dedicated theatre room where money is mostly no object. Other settings, you are much better served by a large tv, especially now that 100 inches at or below 5k is possible

Caleb, your audience is missing out on a comparison review between a JVC DLA-NZx projector and one of these new 100” TVs. When I upgraded my old TV in my living room to OLED that pushed me to upgrade the projector in my home theater. I went with the NZ7, which is the more affordable model in that range. Turned off the partial 8K upscaling and it displays an impressive image with its native 4K chips. HDR content intended to showcase OLED TVs look amazing. You’ve got to check it out.
@DM-ei6oo I hear you, I like it when making repairs are easy, and this is a bit of an unknown. On the other hand, JVC estimates that the laser diodes should last 20,000+ hours, with no noticeable dimming. I run mine at medium power, which reduces the fan noise and should extend the service life. I didn't like the bulbs dimming on my prior projectors.
As for the 8K e-shift, I could hear it humming when it was running, none of my sources are 8K, and I doubt at normal viewing distances that my eyes could spot the difference between good 4K and 8K material anyway. The NZ7 has the least capable version of e-shift, only moving diagonally, so only showing half as many pixels as a true 8K image. For another $4,000 JVC sells the NZ8 which actually shows all of the 8K image's individual pixels. No thanks.
@DM-ei6oo You might want to check out the JVC DLA-NP5. Similar to the NZ7 except: it uses a replaceable bulb instead of the laser diodes, it doesn't support 8K e-shift, and it is about half the price of the NZ7.

I have noticed some of the short throw laser TV's have 3D Support. I am a little bit interested in whether this tech is still viable. I had a 2016 Sony 4k/3D TV that stopped working after 2 1/2 years and a couple of years after that 3D TV's were discontinued. I have a $3-4,000 investment in 3D blu-rays that I was going to sell off, but if Laser TV works for this tech I would upgrade my 2020 LG NanoCell91 65". AWOL & NOMVDIC claim 3d Support, and there are a couple of reviews with mixed experiences. I understand that to use the 3D they have to be Active DLP glasses. I would love to hear more of your opinion on this. One review said the 3D was upconverted to 4K? Thanks for your content.
I would love to try out a projector, so I got a cheap one just to play with. It lead me to understand that if I want to really dive into the projection side, the ultra short throw is the only thing I’d actually invest in.

There is something about watching from a projector screen , I know it’s not a clear as oled or mini led but , it’s just all more movie like when coming from a projector
The bigger issue should not be TV vs. Projector. It should be, why don’t you have a proper home theater sound system with your nice big TV?
Too many people just use TV speakers or soundbars. Invest in audio. It is way more immersive.
Anyone know what movie is on the movie screen at the 13:31 mark?
I have used projectors in my home cinema room for many years, and the DLP ones
are well worth paying more for as motion blurr on a large screen drives you mad.
This is why i am struggling to find a 4K TV to replace my still working Plasma
having tried a few and rejected them, i know that the plasma won't last forever,
but nether will those very large screen ultra bright TV's the higher the brigtness
is the sooner they will have issues and will die.
Only time will tell if mini/micro LED panels will be the answer.
I want both an OLED TV and a 4K projector with a 120" acoustically transparent screen in the same room. Hence I can not have the TV behind the roll-down screen. Instead it must be on the left or right wall. Hence I must have TWO speaker systems and TWO sofas. Can I use ONE AVR and ONE speaker set? If not, I´ll just use a soundbar for the TV and hopefully one AVR will be enough. Thoughts? 😃
Edit: I know this will only work with some custom made switches for the audio cables and a less than perfect speaker placement for the 2nd system (TV). But maybe Dirac ART will let me place speakers in a more forgiving pattern!?
I have a follow up question could they ever make either a single or a modular system that could replace commercial cinema projectors 😱

Why not BFI instead of motion smoothing? Also, DLP is quite like plasma, isn't it? With that rainbow effect. Also, the speed of OLEDs leads to some really bad stuttering...

Its either a dlp projector or an oled.
In 2014 I went through thinking i had heart problems. That watching tv, i couldn't stay awake. I had a quack doctor ask me do i watch alot of tv. Yes... So that got me experimenting and thinking. The rear projection tvs, crts, it never happened.
The motion smearing of an lcd ended up being why! I can watch my 100" uhd38 from 8 feet away, 0 issue. I can watch my friends 65" lg c2 all day, as long as the source isnt juttery. . But ive never, ever had a LCD tv that just doesn't make me nauseated even at 120hz.
'same goes for the PSP. Omg that screen gave me migraines

For me I vote for both a 4K laser projector with a 150” screen to watch movies and OLED for casual entertainment.
Please don’t forget the long through projectors too. Love your reviews on tv but would love more projectors for that 100-130” range.

About the black levels in cinema. While still not 100% black Dolby Cinema cinema's with Dolby Vision 4k laser projectors projectors come quite close to black. And they have good hdr capabilities for a projector. Oled still has more contrast but it's a major uplift compared to normal cinema projectors. The audio is also impressive in that room. I think they use 63 or 67 individual channels for atmos.
I'm lucky to have a Dolby Cinema like 50km from my home. So if I go to the cinema I go there. And otherwise I watch at home on my 83A90J and 5.2.4 surround.
I certainly wish they'd stop using the term "Laser TV" which are just ultra short throw projectors. And digging deeper, they're all single-chip DLP based with the stupid spinning color wheel and for many folks you can see the "rainbow effect" if you move your eyes or head right, and also for many, get migraine headaches from those devices. In short, these are just DLP projectors using a laser lighting system projecting onto a screen.
To answer the soundbar swap question: Caleb is mistaken here, HDMI switches aren’t designed to handle ARC (audio return channel) signals, that’s why OP is having problems. There’s two solutions:
1) try a “dumb” manual HDMI switch where you have to push a button to switch inputs, (may work, but no guarantees)
2) get a special switch that creates the ARC signal, (EZcoo makes two, one with 2 HDMI inputs, one with 4, make sure there’s listed Sonos compatibility in the online description!!), then plug a HDMI signal splitter into the switch’s HDMI out, sending the signal to both the TV and the projector. This is a $200 solution (which sucks) but it should work

Hey Caleb, when recommending DLP projectors do not forget the large minority of us who are sensitive to rainbow effect on any non-3 Chip DLP. Single chip projectors can be found at reasonable prices, but 3 chip units really cannot. No matter how fast or large the color wheels get some of us just cannot handle DLP. Thank goodness LCD and LCOS solutions are available and provide even better contrast ratios, even if the motion is not quite as smooth.
I like the suit jacket at CES. Good for you. I know it’s trivial and unrelated to TVs but I’ll be damned if I can’t say it just looks nicer than a hoodie. I’m getting old 😅
A 97” LG OLED TV or a Samsung QD-OLED at $2,000 are a dream! In the meantime a good 4K projector!
I have been wondering how laser short throw projectors compare to OLED's. I would be into seeing videos of specific brands of these devices.

I own both TV’s and a projector. The new 100”+ TV’s have dropped so far in price that it makes them a better buy do to picture quality during daytime viewing in a bright room…BUT…as TV’s get enormous, there is no where to put your center channel. It will end up on the floor. This is where projectors win out-and will continue to do so for me. You can use an acoustically transparent screen and have your center channel right behind it. So the choice is now, better picture that doesn’t require blackout shades and poor sound…OR…great sound that requires a dark room in the daytime.
I stick with my 4k gaming projector 150" screen 😊
For the HDMI switch question, I'm sure you considered this but...make sure it has the latest and updated formats i.e. 4k/8k/HDMI 2.1 AND he's using HDMI cables that are also 4k/8k/HDMI 2.1 rated. I'm guessing he's running content that is rated ABOVE his HDMI cables and failed switches.
