Good to watch your video's, your doing everything that I wanted to do at the strid ever since I was your age, im 60 now and have been visiting there for many years, in 1976 there was a massive draught it was the hottest summer I can ever remember, the rivers and the reservoir's were at there all time lows, I visited the strid at that time and what I saw was amazing, I will never forget it. The water was so low you could see all under the hanging rocks, it went as far back as I could see, small round caves and large overhangs further down. Lady with the silver curly hair, you are STUNNINGLY BEAUTIFUL!!!! You have the most incredible silver hair I’ve ever seen!! Literally gasped when I saw it!! 💖💖💖
Thanks for another fascinating video. I remember Desolation Valley from the days of my youth. Apparently, no dogs are allowed there now probably because of the game birds. Same goes for most of the Yorkshire Moors: dogs have to be on leads at all times. Ironically, dogs may well be used to flush the birds out in the hunt. Very much looking forward to seeing more videos of The Strid.
Yeah there was a sign that said no dogs in that area at all. There was loads of game birds there everywhere i looked i could see them running about. Loads of people were there today to have a good hunt!
I absolutely love that you, jack, is exploring the strid, even if it is so dangerous. Now, the stories of the strid. You are absolutely amazing and definitely need lots of support from the community. Brave, best hairstyle in the world, good glasses, handsome and great accent.

They also get the local farmers on these Farm Business tennancys to get the farmers to restore the old farm houses or somewhat and then when the 10 year contract is up they send them on Thier way, they tried to get my father to sign to an FBT but he absolutely refused it because he knew what was going to go down and then a year later they were trying to get us off with change of use on the land and using planning permission to turn the farm into "storage and offices" we had a two year battle with them but they didn't get us off the farm, they don't appreciate any locals and my family has been farming there for 300 years, can't wait to battle them again when the tennancy gets passed down

Hey Jack I just left a comment but I just thought of something there's a Channel call dive talk where two expert cave divers react to videos of diving and things like that but it would be cool if you linked up with those guys because they would have some great Insight on it they're extra cave divers and possibly maybe they could help you find somebody or even them that would be willing to take the steps to make a dive
I just randomly thought of this. Not sure what I expected since no one's diving in the middle of winter. Looking forward to it. PS Strid sounds like a real harry potter character. You could do an April fool's where you're casting spells at it.
I can't wait for the Caravan site to reopen next year so I can go and have a look at the strid. I was at Bolton Abbey earlier this year but didn't know what it was all about, so thanks for all of your videos, I'm now fascinated!
Hunting is why they don’t like to talk. Rules aren’t followed on purpose so they can kill more animals for their enjoyment. Of course they don’t want to be on camera. Excellent videos dude
Thanks for another great video. I came across your channel today as I had seen something else on the Strid. So far you have shown us the depth and what it’s like under water. I think this video was the most enjoyable as you showed us what the area is like and talked to people. All the best from Sydney Australia 🇦🇺

🙌🏾Excellent Video Jack I appreciate it. Keep them coming. I love your videos you've inspired me to do something of my own because you never know what could happen it could be a great thing. 👊🏾
I hated to hear they were going to shoot pheasants. I'm in Oregon in the USA, when I was a kid they were everywhere. I've not seen one in over 40 years. No quail either. Makes me sad. Since the 70s mankind has rid our planet of 60% of it's creatures. I'm 64 and I miss not hearing all the wildlife that we did so long ago.
The Pheasants on these estates are heavily managed. They probably wouldn't be there without the shoots, certainly not in the numbers they are. Same with grouse too. Personally I can't see the attraction, I only shoot wildlife with a camera.
I’m neither for or against it personally but I understand why it is a sensitive subject. I think the estate breed the pheasants and then host a hunt for members of the estate. You’re not allowed dogs in that section I was filming as they don’t want your dog messing with the population they so carefully managed
Pheasants are not native to anywhere but East Asia. So don’t worry too much about them, in fact they’ll end up competing with native birds like Mourning Doves. Also the reason why you saw many of them back then was due to huge interest hunting them and so many farms were made to breed and release them for sport.
I saw a headless pheasant standing next to a busy road. Half a mile further was a tractor mowing in the direction of the pheasant. I returned an hour later to well cut verges and no pheasant.
First time seeing this video and my first thought was Harry Potter and then you start talking about how many comments had said the same thing 😁 Love your videos!
Great videos on the Strid fella. In prep for the dive you should get a wind speed reader on a long pole and pop it in the water. Will help you identify any calmer spots as well as know exactly how fast the water flows through there 👍

I was wondering if it would be possible to dam it as well without affecting the ecology. Probably not but would be amazing to see if it ever did happen.
I’m sure it’s theoretically doable but why? Just to see what’s under there? Look for remains? PS: There won’t be any btw - except for teeth, they’ve long decomposed. Short version, there’s other more feasible survey methods.
My son used to get called Harry Potter, then he got his eyes lasered. I heard about The Strid from Mr Ballen podcasts, I lived in yorkshire in the late 90's for a couple of years and never heard of it. Very interesting videos.
Wahhh, that AMAZING scenery! 😩Just makes me feel like I'm stuck in the wrong hemisphere. God, the idea of a 5° day is goddamn BLISS! Sure, visit Australia, but never move here ... it's still as much of a punishment as when it was officially a penal colony ... and that's just the weather.
You're crazy. I'm Australian living in Europe. The weather here SUCKS. the scenery is miniscule. You can't find a horizon anywhere. Australia is loads better. Can't wait to move back.
Ferocious looking river! First thought - stay back, way back! Truly one would have serious misgivings about approaching that water. I was a daredevil in my youth, but that would have scared me. Put a fishing bobble in the Strid follow it down to see where it emerges, and look at the remains. Then consider that's U!!! 🤔🤨😑😥🙏🏼👵
That'll be a factor - when the farm/estate over the road from me does a hunt it causes all kinds of friction and inevitably results in a big police presence - the last one had around 200 protestors turn up and a brawl kicked off when someone accidentally drove into someone else's car.
@@Rroff2 yeah, those protesters are a nightmare for people like this that still hunt. All them fox hunter's had massive issues not that many years ago, I kind of understood that though, getting a pack of hounds to rip a fox to shreds was a bit unnessacary, still the protester's went too far, it was all a complete mess so I can understand them not wanting be on video shooting or about to shoot pheasants.
Nice to get the locals opinion about the strid as they'll no doubt have the more obscure tales to tell. The people on the hunt just want privacy. It seems everybody that wears a certain type of glasses automatically become a Harry Potter lookalike lol.
So, what does the area look like (didn’t catch the name) where the husband pushed the wife into the River, unsuccessfully trying to kill her? Beautiful video.
That’s funny, you talk about looking like Harry Potter and then immediately bump into Professor Trelawney! 😆 I guess estates are secretive because yes they are big money but it’s more a security thing I would say in case any potential nasties get any ideas and want to kidnap lord far far on his shoot for ransom ect. Probably wrong but I guess it’s just private because it’s their business and it’s not our business so we have to mind our own business! Lol
Security definitely being one of the few entities in the UK who have legal justification for a range of firearms and often having vehicles which are stolen to order like exotics and Land Rovers, etc. they tend to be targets.
@@Rroff2 exactly it’s a good job they are permitted to use said firearms on trespassers who have bad intentions. Nothing like being shot with buckshot in the arse by lord Farquhar for poaching his pheasants 😆
Land is incredibly valuable and you have no idea how valuable it is!! Or maybe you do now. If I had that much land that was mine you better believe I would protect it above and beyond😅
:How about someone resolve the depth issue the old fashioned way? Drop a lead sinker at the end of a stout chain and run it off an anchored winch. You should be able to do it without damaging anything if you have a few stout Hobbits to handle the equipment.
I was a city boy who moved out to the sticks. I'm not a pheasant shooter but I know how and why this takes place, in a word, money, and big money at that. It also provides employment, gamekeepers and beaters (beaters are mostly part time but good money). On the estates the pheasants are raised for the shoot and released to the open countryside. Like I said it is money that drives this and I know some that turn up to shoot are useless, it is a status thing and many of the birds just fly away. I don't condone this but this is how it is out here.
Might be worth you going for a walk to buckden pike and see the memorial to the polish guy who died there during the war. Remember doing this walk 20 years ago.
The lady with the long curly silver hair, aw what a character 👏 👌

I’m sure it’s theoretically doable but why? Just to see what’s under there? Look for remains? PS: There won’t be any btw - except for teeth, they’ve long decomposed. Short version, there’s other more feasible survey methods.
Nice one mate. Another interesting one 👌🏼
Congratulations on the 18k subscribers Harry! Before you know it you’ll be adding a zero to then end… Engorgio!
I enjoy these videos, watching you "pottering around" by the Strid.
My son used to get called Harry Potter, then he got his eyes lasered. I heard about The Strid from Mr Ballen podcasts, I lived in yorkshire in the late 90's for a couple of years and never heard of it. Very interesting videos.
Enjoyed, I had never heard of a Strid. I like learning new things and your adorable. I’m in the USA
Really nice video, thanks. By the way, my mother was a potter
@@smallbeginning2 We should setup some kind of exchange, then. Hehe. And soon, too, summer's coming ... oh, shit. 😩
🤔🤨😑😥🙏🏼👵
Hi from North Carolina in the U.S. Best wishes for safe adventures!
Bro the scenery of the place you live at is beautiful
You made it to 18k!!! I just made it 1 higher than it was this morning! Love this geeky kind of stuff 😅
Thanks Jose legend!
Loving your videos about the Strid. Have subscribed.
Great video.
Maybe try and go during the flooding season. I bet its truely frightening then
Thanks for the vid, loup scar at burnsal is also quite interesting. You could depth check there
the pheasant hunter's are probably worried about animal right's groups finding out who they are or what they're doing.
It is The Strid Tracy. The deadly river we have been visiting in this Strid series :D
Your vids have proberly upped the tourism numbers wanting to see the strid and surrounding area
Any update on the Strid scuba dive?
For a ballpark /quick conversion

Double the Celsius and add 30

That’s funny, you talk about looking like Harry Potter and then immediately bump into Professor Trelawney! 😆
I guess estates are secretive because yes they are big money but it’s more a security thing I would say in case any potential nasties get any ideas and want to kidnap lord far far on his shoot for ransom ect.
Limestone ledge and over hang to the deeper. Great comment helps understand the geology. Thank you.

great channel ..
:How about someone resolve the depth issue the old fashioned way? Drop a lead sinker at the end of a stout chain and run it off an anchored winch. You should be able to do it without damaging anything if you have a few stout Hobbits to handle the equipment.
well how the heck did the one lady survive if it's supposedly impossible...
You might like to search Huka Falls New Zealand for videos of some impressive falling water.
👍 most enjoyable from Perth Australia
The name 'Strid' actually sounds like something from a Harry Potter movie.
