GUANAJUATO IS MUCH BETTER THAN SMA. 1- MORE TRADITIONS AND HISTORY 2- MOST OF IT IS -REAL- SMA IS VERY "WHAT A GRINGO WANTS TO SEE IN MX" 3- NIGHT LIFE IS BETTER. 4- CHEAPER
Welcome to GTO guys. I never get tired of folks’ reactions visiting this town for the first time. I’d hoped your travels would eventually bring you here. Keep up the great content.
Im thinking of going but Im a little hesitant because im not familiar with the area and I would be going alone with my kids. Would you consider it safe?
I absolutely loved seeing your take on one of my favorite places in Mexico. What an amazing video - you really captured the feeling of being there and included so many great spots (El Paisa, wow! That was one of our go to places). ❤
We honestly were a little disappointed with San Miguel de Allende but Guanaguato more than made up for SMA's shortcomings.SMA is a lit the too gringo but Guanaguato has amazing history and sites. The underground tunnels are amazing!
Subscribed your channel ,and booked the hotel 1988 after saw your videos . Actually we booked all the hotels your were stayed !! The double tree !! We are going on Jan 20th for 15 days . Thank your for your videos , very helpful . All the best !!
I'm Mexican, the mummies totally creep me out and my parents make fun of me because of it :( being a Mexican is hard. Good to know you enjoyed your stay!
I once thought being Mexa in the States was hard. When you come into your own, you will see it so so different. Particularly when we have so many things to be proud of.
Eric and Sarah, I am in the home stretch of saving up for a big trip to Central and South America. On Sunday mornings I take time to watch any recent videos you've uploaded and it keeps me inspired and motivated. Keep it up! Hugs from Toronto 😊
I have watched so many utube post on Guanajuato and it is a very cool little city if all you want to do is what everyone else does. But there is so much more if your a true explorer. Cerro de la Bufa, is a great hike that you can start by walking S/W from Centro and get to hike through the scrub forest and dry meadows, and on the way back you can travel by the Hospital through a cool little village up on the hill that ends up at the over look to the city, then take the stars down to get a good look at how people live up on the hills. Or take a walk N/E and view the incredible Castle Santa Cecilia and if you keep walking you will come across a old mine with the ore cars parked out side. I think it's sad every one posts the same thing over and over when there is so much more to explore. I am here now May 6th 2023 and after a rest up I'm to explore more places know one talks about. Just me and my Schipperke..
That’s great… you should create videos of your experiences to share with others then! Unfortunately we can only show so much in one video but we do a lot of exploring off camera 😊
Another thing I find great about Mexico is that you’ll find a singer out in the streets trying to make some quick cash by him singing to you and to everyone else around that’s great
Beautiful city... Funny note about video...as Sarah points saying " look how beautiful" we only see a flash of light...😅😂 Loved the interesting facts though!!
My family is from San Miguel de Allende, its funny you say Guanajuato felt like a castle. I kept telling my girlfriend at the time that I felt like we were walking around King Landing from Game of Thrones
Hi, I had to comment about the incoherent spanish hahaha Yes, No Idea what she said or was trying to say 😂😂😂😂 I'm Mexican by the way and I'm planning my trip to Guanajuato and I found your video really helpful on what to see. Thanks.
You are visiting beautiful spots. I would also like to suggest that you visit Taxco, Guerrero which is a “pueblo mágico” & Acapulco, Guerrero which is a big city on the Pacific Coast, but it’s one of the most picturesque places in México with some of the best cuisine around & of course that’s why Hollywood loved it in the 60’s & 70’s.
I forgot to mention that Taxco has some of the most amazing & biggest caves, natural swimming pools by the mountains, & Taxco is a little inclined like Santorini but with the vibrant colors of fine architecture, & a great economy fueled by tourism & silver.
We didn’t come directly from CDMX but it should be about a 6hr bus! It’s about 1.5hrs from San Miguel de Allende 😊 Buses are very easy to use in Mexico (check out ENT or Primera Plus)
This is not a critique of you guys, I think this video is well-made and informative to me. But on the macro sense, It's too bad influencers and general social media sharing is gonna' do to Guanajuato what they did to San Miguel de Allende. That place 4 years ago was as hidden treasure and now its so commercialized the locals smile at strangers with their moellers.
Fair point! For us it’s about showing people a different side of countries that everyone somehow has deemed “unsafe”. Mexico is so beautiful, but we had a lot of people concerned for us being there - which we want to change. From what I can tell, Guanajuato is better for experience and colour, but San Miguel de Allende has a lot more of the fancier things that expats seem to like - not to mention it’s easier to walk around for the retired expats. I hope it doesn’t turn into another SMA, but Guanajuato is already pretty busy and we’ll known. Especially in the Centro. We do our best to stay with locals and only support local businesses and we will always encourage everyone to do the same!
@@EricandSarah i appreciate you and any YT-er trying to lessen their footprint in a way that harms. There is no doubt that the added notoriety and publicity brings people, which brings more money, which brings investors to win over those dollars etc. SMA already has 1600 active projects of new homes / airbnb construction within El Centro alone. That figure is not a misprint. I have family there. Every single instance of an Airbnb shown on some video is one or more local families who has been gentrified from their place of home and history because they have been priced out of their neighborhood. I’m not crying purity here. It’s happening in Europe too but the economic demographics are vastly different. A Tacos-meal in Europe doesn’t cost 150 pesos, I’ll tell you that much. The genie is out of the bottle and we Americans are spreading the love and sights of Mexico more than ever. It’s a double edged sword. For every Mexican that appreciates the influx of dollars, there’s a few families harboring resentment at the commercialization of their magic towns. There’s no going back. But the story of the 2nd and 3rd level effects of these YT content bombardments has an effect unseen by the viewer just planning their next escape. I just wish more YT-ers balanced their vlogs with the dark side of this. Again, I appreciate what you guys do and I follow your content for various reasons. Thanks for letting me chime in. I do so respectfully.
I've seen so many videos but most say you are supposed to kiss on the third step not on the balcony ;You need to visit Taxco in the state of Guerrero .
So, I know I keep asking the same question all the time, but I'm wondering if I could make it in Guanajuato for a week without knowing any Spanish. I knew that it was no problem in San Miguel because there are so many American and Canadian expats, but I wondered if the expats have made it to Guanajuato yet ?
@David Balcarce Santibáñez I will try my best. I certainly want to learn Spanish. It's harder to learn a language quick as an older person. I wish I had learned it when I was young like you.
As David said, most accommodation and service staff speak some English so you can definitely get by if you stay in Zona Centro! But of course any Spanish you can learn beforehand will make your trip more enjoyable because it’s always fun to be able to chat with locals (even if only a little bit) 😄

Thank you for sharing this amazing city
Guanajuato is an incredible place!
Love both towns! I live in SMA because it’s flatter and more walkable and I’m not a mountain goat!😂. Guanajuato is gorgeous though!
Hahahaha fair enough 🐐🐐
Amazing beautiful place 👌
It truly is magnificent! 🇲🇽

You’re not alone!
I once thought being Mexa in the States was hard.
When you come into your own, you will see it so so different.
Particularly when we have so many things to be proud of.
We have streets like that in Boston, cow trails, they call it here.
Cow trails! I like that!
Beautiful Guanajuato been there several times.
It’s such a beautiful city!!
Was there last year, and loved the city. Great place to explore.

Nice video, your guys are so optimistic and look like you're really having fun, that makes the video even better.

personalmente prefiero San Miguel de Allende. pero Guanajuato es bello también ❤
Hello guys! Guanajuato is my favorite town in Mexico. Legend also says if you eat tacos everyday you will always be happy.😋
Our mission is to test that legend and currently it’s proving to be very true 😉😂🌮🤤
may I ask if either of you experienced any problems breathing at the high altitude of 6500ft ?
Nope! No problems there. The real problems start at around 8200ft for us.

How far and easy to get to from Mexico City? Love your content

@@EricandSarah thank you! Looks like you’re really enjoying Mexico
in Mexico is easy to take busses to everywhere, from north bus station in CDMX are 5 hrs to Guanajuato.
Zacatecas is also a beautiful very colonial city just like Guanajuato!
Oaxaca tambien es muy bella pero en este video no estan hablando de Oaxaca o Zacatecas tan dificil es de entender?

Oh really?? We never heard that. There were a few people kissing down below but we thought they didn’t want to pay to use the balconies. Haha
Mexico feels much older than USA, a lot more 16th-18th century architecture and history.
They make it a point to keep their architecture in tact. A lot of Mexican cities do.
