  • I returned from Australia, and in this video we will take a walk in my hometwon Perm and visit the second biggest city in Perm region - Berezniki. Berezniki is notoriously known for literally going underground because of the technological disaster. Let's see what is going on there and ask the locals why they are not scared to live there.

I am born and raised in Canada with English heritage. Roast-beef, Yorkshire Pudding and thick gravy every Sunday, yet not versed in everything 'old world'. Later, while work-travelling around England in the 90s, I was passing through a small town (by bicycle) and stopped at a street corner to ask an elder home-owner for a glass of water. She proceeded to invite me in for the water, some toast and to talk. After drinking half a glass of iced-water, I thanked her for the toast she offered and took a bite. Mein Gott! did she spread IODINE on the bread? No - it was Marmite...
The kind old Lady laughed at the face I was making while I apologized for saying the Marmite tasted worse than medicine to me. We talked about Marmite, Peanut Butter, Cultural differences and changing times. She asked me where I had been and where I was going. Having just left Cambridge and heading south towards London, I had no clue where I was headed, but England was mine for the taking. I ended up in Bournemouth for over a year's worth of Life Experience only Travelling can teach...
Eli, come to Canada. Respect :)

Only difference is that now a belligerent US isn't dealing with a soft target. It's dealing with a nuclear power in a multipolar world.

    Dear Eli
My wive and I would have loved to explore Russia. Sadly it looks like we might not achieve this during our lifetime.
All the more it is important to keep the outside world informed about the good Russia of honest, hard working people, trying to make it work for their families.
You have a very special talent to tell such stories and we enjoy your posts very much. It might not seem very important to you, but you are an ambassador
of goodwil for the Russian people abroad. Thank you for your great work, take care and keep up your positive spirit!

Eli, heartfelt congratulations on all that you've achieved and everywhere that you've travelled to. This video didn't come across as boring or depressing in any way. We all find ourselves a bit lost at times and usually, IME, the answer of what choice to make or what to do next presents itself, if you have an open mind. Well done you for vocalising what you were struggling with and for asking for help.
Having over half a million subscribers is amazing and it shows that your content is valuable to many, many people.
I grew up during the Cold War and films like Threads, which showed the aftermath of nuclear war in the UK cast a shadow over our formative years. For all of my life, the USSR and now the CIS and particularly Russia has been depicted as the enemy and the source of what was bad in the world because of the many proxy wars fought between East and West.
I'm in the UK (currently) and we know that there are many sides to Russia and not just the extremes that we see in the media.
I've watched a few RUclips channels, presented by Russians, about Russia and I believe that yours is the best by far. As a viewer,
I never know what to expect, so everything is a surprise, extremely well presented and offers a window into ordinary Russian society and the Russian people, that we would otherwise never see. My sense is that you seek to show the subject of your vlogs as they are. Without bias nor embellishment and you achieve this brilliantly.
What you show perfectly is that we humans are all pretty much the same, the world over. We have the same hopes and fears. The same challenges as we progress through life. The same dreams for ourselves and the generations that follow us.
One of the things that depresses me most. Is the incalculable waste of resources, lives and time that have gone into conflict between nations. What you do, helps to lessen the risk of future conflict between your country and mine. Hopefully your influence will extend to current and future politicians and help them find a better way to conduct politics. Instead of politics as usual.
    Happy trails :)

Just happened to be talking to a university researcher researching underground anamolies like sink holes or voids. Causes of such geological events could be acidic water dissolving limestone materials. So in this case likely the waste water from mining was acidic and or the waste stream was not treated by the soda -Alkaline) to neutralise the acid. When neutralised it formed the white precipitate (salt) -hence that white lake....Can also be caused ground water flow too. In permafrost areas, Hydrates dissociating because rising temperature can cause the hydrates to break down and release methane into the atmosphere and leave a huge hole in the ground.

A short Google search revealed that the potash mines were never filled back in after the mines closed. Ground water filtered down and eroded the supporting mine roofs (made of soluble salt) and they collapsed. There is nothing that can be done now except monitor the sink rate and keep people away. They don't want you to film because this is a man-made, slow motion disaster caused by greedy mine owners and the government.

Eli - once again thanks for this wonderful content. I’m sorry that you seem to have lost your way. There was a time I felt down as I had lost my best friend - so I felt I needed to find a way - I decided to walk the Camino in northern Spain. Don't worry about what to do next with your life. You appear to have a wonderfully supportive extended family and you'll be with them in Perm or away while satisfying some off-the-wall curiosity when a light bulb will suddenly turn on over your head and your next move will come to you. In fact, I would bet that it has already done so, but it might not correspond neatly with what you have been doing in these last years, so you didn't pay attention to it or you filed it away as being just too [hard or strange or ridiculous or...] different. Just do whatever you think you would love to do more than anything, even if it takes you from RUclips [I'd miss you so much, but I'd understand]. Have the fortitude to follow your desire! Doing so usually requires your closing your eyes and taking a leap of faith, whatever come what may.

Reflecting on your past will help you to move forward. Both of your niece and nephew are so cute. Literally we’re watching them growing up. I wonder how Zlatoust city in the Ural region looks like? It is a birthplace of legendary Anatoly Karpov my favourite grandmaster. He is recovering from head injury so I heard. For your next video, if you happen to visit Caucasus region again, we would love to see you dancing wearing traditional costume with the folks. Wow, i didnt realise that about "Permian era".
I missed her lovely voice . Cute niece and nephew. Its always interesting to see unknown Russian towns (2nd Perm krai city) where not so many videos have explored.
I will watch the Australian videos next.

Thank you so much for opening up about how you feel in terms of your life. I really appreciate it and it's interesting to know that a person who's accomplished something in their life feels like this; like you don't have to be a loser to feel lost. Definitely wish you all the best, God willing you'll find your purpose in life.
One thing is for sure, you have a very important tool and platform that can be used for something good and great. Your influence and your RUclips channel.
