Howdy Ern! Really enjoyed the video this week. Just to update you on my progress; My solo is tomorrow on my 16th Birthday (June 12). I appreciate all that you've been filming recently and it has inspired me to pursue aviation even more. Safe travels and God bless buddy!
What a nice treat for Sam and his daughter to visit the flight deck. I used to do that all the time when I flew commercial. On the flight down to Jamaica on our honeymoon the flight engineer had trained at the same flight school that I trained at. Small world. Take care and enjoyed the video.
I booked my first trip with your airline ever for this December, really looking forward to it! Love when experienced captains giving their perspective on everything industry-related!
Thanks for another cool video Ern! It must be a thing to be a Captain and bald at Southwest..lol...the other Captain you filmed flying with you looked like Mr. Clean...??
Thanks for this, Ern! I absolutely LOVE it when you and the captains share your insights. As a pilot working on my CFI, it can get hectic and seem like the light at the end of the tunnel is just a pin hole. Your videos offer a ton of motivation to keep flying my best!
As a child I had the opportunity to visit the cockpit of a Pan Am 747 at SFO. It turned me into a lifelong aviation enthusiast. I appreciate the time flight crews take to be ambassadors, it can literally be a life changing experience for a child and probably some adults also.
Hey Ern again always love your videos and learning , your a plus to the airline pilot community . Great video and great advice from Brent. I'm hitting the books right now to finish off the last 4 CPL theory subjects by end of Oct (Theres 7 in total here in Aus). At my age, there's only 10 years till retirement, so I don't think I'll ever get up with the big guys, but I think getting the CPL will make me a better pilot. I also run the Matty Crayon Kids education channel and find myself questioning how much time I put into flying v how much I should be doing to make my channel more successful. 👍 Keep up the great work. 🤙

Thank you for your flight down to Cabo.. That was nice you had Captain Brent for speaking and giving his advice.. Hahaha. .I laughed a little when you said something about Captain Brent's head. Yes, I am bald but a little more of a round head!
Big Ern, first off, LOVE your content, so thank you! As someone traveling to SoCal every now and then,, would love to see your take on the PHX-BUR route, it being one of the smaller and more unique airports out there.

Hi BigErn, I am a single engine commercial pilot who always dreamed of flying for the airlines.. I am now 48 years old, so I probably missed my chance, so I have gotten into flight simulation. Anyway, I love this video, you are showing some great moments of how the "real" systems work, and I can't thank you enough.. One quick question, you said that you will set the "Baro for takeoff", which I know to be the barometric minimums for landing, instead of the radar, etc. etc.. But what are you setting when you say, "Baro for takeoff?", is that something on the departure chart?
Never too late! We normally set the baro to 1000’ above airport elevation (acceleration height), unless the engine out procedure stipulates a different altitude. Good question!
Depends on the unit Michael. All are different. Although with ROTC you incur an active duty commitment if it’s the same as when I went it. Head up to operations and had them your package. Best to go there during drill weekend and get to know some of the people there. Good luck!👍🏽
Hey! You might know me as diorez but I changed my name from diorez to brrrito. But as I always ask questions, is flying the 737 hard? And is it a 737-700?
Hey Ern! Just inquiring about the WSI app you use. Is that a company login you use? Can all pilots access the app? How can I get it if I am able to? Thanks! Huge support from a fellow pilot and much love from OH!!!
Hey Earn! Great video like always.... I do have a question for you or someone you might know at SWA. I applied for Destination 225 with your company awhile back and wasn't sure if you or someone you know has any information on this program and hot to get connected into the program. Last week I just got hired with EFJets as an SIC in the EA500 and now accelerating in building trubine time and TT. If SWA or airlines are in desperate need of pilots, what are they wanting as a candidate like myself? Are they looking for still 1000hrs or 1000hrs turbine over piston pilots? Hopefully this question isn't too complicated.... very interested in possibly jumping into SWA in the future as a pilot.
Congrats on getting hired! You probably know the “Green Hornet” is based there so I may see you around👍🏽 Sounds like you have advanced ratings to be flying the Eclipse. If so D225 wouldn’t be for you. I would build time in the Eclipse or move into the Lear it that beautiful Phenom. Either way just keep building time. We’re still looking for time in advanced turbine aircraft. And with hiring stopped for awhile, the competition will be fierce. Best of luck and I’ll see you out there!
@@FlyingwithBigErn Hey Earn! Thanks so much, greatly appreciate it! I have flown 51FM several times and what a beautiful bird.... I'll have to slap a RUclips thumb on 51FM when I see here just to say Tony was here hahahahaha.... Have a great week and safe flying Earn!
Does applying to Southwest at a young age (23) help or hurt my chances of getting hired? I can see why they wouldn’t want to hire a “kid” but I would think being qualified at such a young age shows motivation. Your thoughts?
I am currently in flight school with American Flyers in Texas. They make us call 1800wxbrief. My question for you is should I take the time to spend the money on foreflight? I am still a student pilot right now and I am doing a Paper VFR flight plane right now.

@@FlyingwithBigErn cool! hey, I'm actually blind, and I really appreciate all the sounds of the 737. could you perhaps record a pushback from a gate, or a landing? maybe I'll see you on a southwest flight one day. The flight attendants usually let me go up to the flight deck to say hey.
Hey Ern! I have a quick question... when you set the “BARO” @3:41 to 2135 what did that number depict? Was it the land elevation for the departure airport?
This is an amazing channel ❤️❤️❤️ I've been wanting to become an Airline Pilot since 2005! I don't want to become a flight attendant, but I do want to work in Guest Services. If I work in Guest Services, would the airline still pay for my flight training? BigErn...few weeks ago you were teaching Sam how to fly and now he is in the left seat of the 737 before you... whats his trick? ;)
You weren't kidding about the size of that guys noggin. He pulls it off though.
I'm bullish on our airline, even though I landed here by sheer luck. It was entirely different getting hired 21 years ago. There I was, one of Uncle Sam's Misguided Children, yet I was the only one they hired.
I thought it was over and I didn't stand a chance once I learned how much more all the other people could offer, but I hung in there, and was gracious and tried to be helpful. Back then their were a lot of group exercises, seeing how we interacted, reacted etc... I think think FA's still go through that type of interview. The fact that I was there is probably what caused the rest of them to not get hired, they were somewhat dismissive of me quite frankly.
From what I hear, that's changed due to the pilot shortage, if you're invited you are getting hired unless you get caught in a lie or with a screwed up log book. I encourage everyone to take advantage of that and make us your 1st choice, and if someone else picks you up 1st, take it, but keep trying, it's not a big deal to make a change during the 1st few years.

Great videos! But I gotta tell you one bad thing about this channel: one video a week is toooooooo long! (By the way, I listened your audio take off from lax couple days a ago with the Max!)
Ha that awesome! I wish I could put out more content per week. Just maxed out with once a week honestly😁. I appreciate the kind words👍🏽

Must always be too bad when your flights to nice destinations are turns…
Love your channel....not so happy about your derogatory description of bucket head,,,,since I can sympathize as a fellow bucket head....bigger than his.....😆
Honestly mine is not much smaller😁
It was kinda rude how that flight attendant threw the bag of chips on you and went away
She was being funny. We’re all family like that😁
