- This week I got to do one of my last trips in the right seat! What better than to do that with a 20 year Southwest Airline Captain. Flying with a veteran Airline Captain is always a blast. They are an absolute wealth of knowledge and that's something that motivates me going into training here shortly!

What is ground school?
New Denver expansion is crazy. So huge and isn’t bogged down with tons of shops and food places down the center which makes it more open. Great expansion.

Flying an E120 for a US cargo carrier now, I was glad to get the job as I had spent a lot of my time instructing to build time. With how good the regionals are paying now I’m strongly considering them when I get to 1500, which should be before the end of this year.

Ern, your advice is invaluable! It’s so true, nothing in life- and I mean this applies to anything and everything-
All paths we take, nothing is given you must earn it. In my opinion this is a great time to get into the game. My dream is to go to flight school. I only hope I can do so before I get too old. I’m nearing 30, and I have some flight training and a few hours. Have ground school out of the way, but could use a refresher. I just need guidance and a game plan!

Good to see another Ameriflighter on here! I just left back in April from flying the Metro in El Paso. I see you also used to fly out of Durant Oklahoma as well. Funny how small aviation is.

Scottsdale is appealing except in summer. I once knew an older couple who left AZ for around five months, settling in the upper Midwest to escape that very dry but intense heat. Although, the desert cools down significantly after sundown, only to begin the heat up again sometime after sunrise.

You were qualified to be a Captain the day you walked on the property, as I’m sure you already know. I performed walk arounds as a CA until my fini trip. Just saying. It helps with the whole sitting in a closet phobia.

Your Captain has an expensive hobby, I am an open wheel racing fan and actually worked for two CART teams before (now IndyCar) starting my career "flying rubber dog **** out of Hong Kong". I am a left seater on a 74-8 freighter and I am on the downslope of my career (age wise) I have been fortunate to be with two companies throughout my aviation career and very lucky to have so far not experienced the volatility that this industry is known for and only flown freight. You had great advice for future pilots this is not a glamourous job but can be rewarding , my advice would be to never be afraid to ask the senior for any and all advice there are no dumb questions and thank goodness for CRM and I Pads. There is such a need for pilots right now and I wish every one the best of luck. Congrats Captain BigErn...love your videos stay safe

Thanks for the look in the landing gear (wheel box). I'd like to see the maintenance manuals and diagrams for those systems.
Accuracy and completeness would be good characteristics for a licensed aircraft engineer on that type.

Hi Ern. Just stumbled across your video. Really enjoyed it. Currently going through my second series of ATPLS due to covid. Really struggling but the long term goal of flying jets is really keeping me going. Any advice to help through the ATPL’S?

This Captain is what i wanna be. I love F1 and I love aviation and working on becoming a pilot and I would love to afford to race cars one day. Def someone to look up to. Big Ern, you should get him in the channel more and maybe fly to race track in the green hornet with Captain and you guys do a track day. that's like the perfect vlog right there.
Also, as a student pilot feeling like the road ahead is super long, I really take both of your advice to heart. It's a major struggle but I'll keep in mind that the "sucky times is a character builder and it's short lived."
