- Inspired by Peter Hollens' version of 'The Parting Glass' Year 10 student William Clarke brought six of his friends together to sing this amazing song as a parting gift to their older siblings on their last day of school.
A big thank you goes to Daniel Thornton and Josh Nila for their amazing help at bringing this together. We could not have done it without them.
Also a big thank you to Tom Anderson who created this composition. Видеоклипы
i probably watch this once a month. love you guys
This is absolutely BEAUTIFUL!
Absolutely beautiful. One of the best versions I've heard.
Goose bumps.
I love this tune, and THAT rendition has the tears running down my face. Thanks.
perhaps when I Take off in my last flight ......
Me too
Pitched beautifully, sung hauntingly, and arranged magically. I had thought Peter Hollens had performed this piece to its apogee, but the richness of your seven voices is something that will not let me go. 2:10 - 2:15 is a phrase that turns in the heart, even upon repeated listening. Thank you for creating this gift and sharing it with the rest of us.
Sweet!
Absolutely brilliant. The best version I have heard to date. Well done. ☘️☘️
Great version.
Pentatonix has nothing on you. Even the High Kings leave out something you have, and it is wonderful.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!!!!!! AMAZING!!!!!! QUE CHINGONES!!!!
One of my favorite song!! This is one of the best and I mean best renditions, you should be very proud of this.
Thanks. My son monitors the feedback and really appreciate your positive comments. Cheers Rodney
Well done on a brilliant performance. This is a very popular song here in Ireland and your interpretation is simply amazing. May God bless you all.
Glory.
VERY impressive. Almost exactly like Peters rendition! Great Job.
SO MANY FEELS
I love this version of this song. I watched it a bunch of times already. It moves my soul. Great work
This was absolutely PERFECT! Magical, good job!
My favorite celtic song. So high performance, Chapeau!👏🏻
Amazing!!! One of the best versions!!
Beautiful. Well done!
Even better than the Peter Hollens version. Best version in my opinion.
What a spectacular rendition of this wonderful end-of-night (or year) song! I love Peter Hollens' version, but I agree with several other comments that there's something about having 7 different pitch-perfect voices interpreting the splendid song. Excellent job to you all. Would love to hear more of your work!
One of my favorite songs I always come back to when I'm on youtube.
Lovely job guys!
+Peter Hollens nice try but last time i checked Peter Hollens didn't have 64 subs
gary kearney and they’re not verified so they are not Peter by just that
just for your info, I saw that same account under another video linking a private video peter did ;) so it is his account, just not his main one :)
Best version ever, great. Your voices are absolutly fantastic
Just one more brilliant version of one of my favourite Irish songs.
Shame it's actually a Scottish song eh john?
@@peter-jamesmccafferty2516 The first official reference to The Parting Glass is in a printed broadsheet from 1770 but it is certainly much older than that. The Parting Glass may have a dual Irish and Scottish heritage as there is a version of it in a collection of Scottish songs published in the Skene Manuscript in the mid 17th century
@@peter-jamesmccafferty2516 Shame its Irish. Shame for you that the Irish invented Scotland.
@@22grena invented? Back to school for language usage. The Scoti were a tribe from the island of Ireland. They didn't however 'invent' Scotland. Or Alba as it's named in Gaidhlig.
@@peter-jamesmccafferty2516 Yes quite happy to educate you. Scoti or Scotus was the Latin name for the Irish as in, for example, John Scotus Eriugena, the 9th century Irish theologian. The Irish took over western Pictland and called it Dal Riada and later Scotland after the Latin for Irishman. They also brought their language which today is the Scottish gaelic dialect. They brought iasca beatha (Irish for water of life), The Great Irish warpipes (which later had a Scots version with the added drone). They brought their names with the prefix Mac (Irish for son of). The stone of scone is what Irish Kings used for annointing their Kings. The Highland Kilt is probably based on the Irish Leine. The modern kilt was invented by an Englishman named Rawlinson. The real kilt was only ever worn by Highlanders anyway and after the clearances only made a comeback because of the patronage of English monarchy (the English kilt anyway). Tartan is also an import to Scotland. Have you noticed when they make films about Scottish Kings or Barons (Rob Roy or Braveheart come to mind) they have uilleann pipe music, Irish wolfounds and Tara broaches. Funny that.
Of all the money that e'er I had
I spent it in good company
And all the harm That e'er I've done
Alas it was to none but me
And all I've done for want of wit
To mem'ry now I can't recall
So fill to me the parting glass
Good night and joy be to you all
[Chorus]
So fill to me the parting glass
And drink a health whate’er befalls
Then gently rise and softly call
Good night and joy be to you all
Of all the comrades that e'er I had
They're sorry for my going away
And all the sweethearts that e'er I had
They'd wish me one more day to stay
But since it fell unto my lot
That I should rise and you should not
I'll gently rise and softly call
Good night and joy be to you all
Fill to me the parting glass
And drink a health whate’er befalls
And gently rise and softly call
Good night and joy be to you
(Singing break)
But since it fell unto my lot
That I should rise and you should not
I gently rise and softly call
Good night and joy be to you all
[Chorus]
Good night and joy be to you all.
Beautiful and elegantly done!
Love the way you do all the verses; nice the way you just fill the bench.
This is brilliant. I wish it was more known. Talented people.
Outstanding. Well done
you guys made me cry
just lovely
Well done. This is so shivering!
I LOVE this! Wow!
I've seen now about 20 Versions or more of this song on RUclips and this is one of the best. Well done! And yes, there are other great versions too, as we all know.
Unbelievable arrangement! More than well done!👍👍👏❤️
Peter's version is obviously technically superior, but...there's something about singing with other people, especially if you're listening and paying attention...really nice job guys.
This is great!!
With the exception of Christmas cannon this is the best choir performance I've ever seen.
Beautiful harmony - golden
Beautiful! I love it, mainly that third girl from right with angel voice :))
Still raising the glass in June 23. Slainte 🥃
Ihr seid die besten!!! Love and Joy from Berlin, the ultimate City of Freedom!
Fantastic
Bravo! Excellent!
Just beautiful...gave me goosebumps. And to read the story behind this performance makes it even more beautiful and special. What an inspiring idea Will, and what a wonderful gift to your siblings.
Thanks Zoe, your tuition made a huge difference to Will. Thanks goes to you.
that is absolutely awesome
you all have really nice voices
Awesome
Phenomenal performance!
Wow! This is awesome.
Happy New Year and many happy returns to all of you.
This is beautiful, and a very thoughtful present :)
Wow! Equal to the best I have heard. Hair of Dog solo acapella is soulful, and your version is full of wonderful harmonies. Well done!!!
If there's an heaven and angles wuold been singing drinking songs over a pint or three that's what they'd sound like
'cause of course, if there's an heaven there MUST be a good pub serving only perfect pints.....
Super job.....Wonderful work!
Absolutely brilliant...! Well done guys, how beautifully skilled you all are... :)))
Excellent
j'aime bcp cette version .
perfect! I love this :)
This (first) is very close to a version done by an Australian 80s acapella group called The Phones. Their version didn’t have a beat. It was a series of phrases. It had pauses between phrases far more in keeping with a departed soul speaking a toast to those left behind...
Beautiful rendition! I'm sure their siblings were very proud. :)
Super!!
The harmonies are simply beautiful.
a grand version of this scottish classic
This song is popular in Ireland too
wow i love it greets from germany
Whoops..forgot to comment...love what you guys did with the song:)
well done lads
these kids are pretty good
I been trying to put my final service on paper so my children won't have to deal with it, just carry it out. Going home and parting glass are definitely on the list
Outstanding, to say the least.
Awesome job!
Outstanding 🍀💚🌈
Some of the best songs in the world come from Ireland, and this is one.
No Scotland actually
@@johndick5273 Not a bagpipe in sight. I say Irish then.
@@johnoconnor4623 scottish sang...you might want research a few of your famous irish sangs you will find they are scottish and english in origins.when "irish" music started in the late 50s early 60s when the clancies adopted the lively/raucous/nonsense scots style. you might want to research many of your fiddle reels(fiddle reel music being indigenous to scotland) even auld sangs like dulaman...siuill aroon. also ceilidths. sean nos singing, steodance etc.
HELL OF A WAY TO CHANGE COURSE.. IN MY OLD WORDS "NEW FACES NEW PLACES"
my prefered version.
Thank you. Very well done. Would love to hear it in a large hall.
hey Rodney. screw all the constructive criticism. very nice effort. wonderful thanks for posting it
Witty, those 'sung bagpipes'!
Damn gurl.
Peter Hollens Have you seen this?
This is awesome. I like it better than the Peter Hollens Version
Vary Gud!
in my opinion this is actually slightly better than peters, despite the fact the the singers here were a bit out of sync. the reason is because if its lots of people its better than just one person recorded over and over
Their voices!!! GAH I LOVE IT!!!!! Got any others of them singing together?
is this song for sale anywhere?
Is it possible to get this wonderful arrangement anywhere? I need this for my choir!! It's simply beautiful
+Marte Vinge the arrangement was provided by Tom Anderson from 'Random Notes' (www.random-notes.com/) who was the person who wrote the original arrangement for Peter Hollens.
+Rodney Clarke omg thank you so much!
Excellent voices and excellent arrangement! Is it possible to get the score?
Hi Dorothee, We purchased the arrangement from Random-Notes (Tom Anderson). You can contact him here... www.random-notes.com/contact .He does great work !
Beautiful version of an Irish song. Thank you guys for singing it so magically.
Scottish song ,thank you
Scottish song thank you
Well done, wish it didn't have the audio effects.
A few notes from some who did competitive chorus in his youth. Emotion needs to be shown. Also, on a song like this the harmonies are SUPER IMPORTANT. you all hit the notes, problem is at points you drifted on the words over 1 word at points. That is HUGE on these harmonies. Still better than like 60% of what we used to compete against.
Atheists are music to my ears.
A worthy effort for sure, though I feel there were a few things keeping it from being as great as Peter's. There were some synchronization issues between some of the singers that was a bit distracting. Also, the cadence was a bit off in some spots, a bit too even. Also, this is a song with some emotion, but you couldn't really tell that by looking at the singers, as they sat almost like statues. Still, it's a challenging composition to do well and I did like it. A little more work could make it that much more awesome.
The Walking Dead musig nice
They need to work on the timing, or else reduce the echo effect in the editing
Where are the dynamics. Greatly rise etc...
christian school? so all of them have been...
