@@justinsharp6323 As a native german speaker, I don't think "sonder" is a german word at all, really. Especially not in this context.
Sonder is basically a short form of "besonders" which translates to "special".

The year is 1996. I'm a young lad in post-collapse Russia, my toys are sticks that vaguely resemble blasters if you squint, and my idea of sweets is bread with sugar sprinkled on top. One day, my aunt takes me to her boyfriend's place, where my attention is immediately drawn to a strange white TV on a desk. My aunt's boyfriend presses a couple of buttons, drags a white box across the desk, and then suddenly I'm hit with Terry S. Taylor's bonkers avant-garde jazz. A cartoon starts on the screen, except... I can control the main character?
To say that my mind was blown is to say nothing at all. This was my introduction to computers, my introduction to videogames, my introduction to a life that wasn't pure misery. For all these things, the Neverhood is always going to remain in my heart.

OH YEES Thank You!!! Man I spent hundreds of hours playing Skullmonkeys and always wondered what this "Neverhood" thing was all about. I must have read an article about it in PC Gamer or somesuch but couldn't get any more info about it. That was before you could just pull up a fabulous Let's Play on RUclips. Thanks for closing the loop on a decades old mystery for me.

Man, a lot of experimentation in animation in games and more back in the day. Hopefully we'll see a return of it. There's a lot of people bringing back stop motion animation on RUclips and more these days, thankfully, either with legos/anime figures or making their own impressive figures. Some good HP Lovecraft eqsue stuff done by bluworm over on their channel @TheLoneAnimator in particular.

This game shaped my artist style a bit. My dad was a programmer in the late 80’s and early 90’s for Microsoft. He would bring home new games and programs for my sister and I to try almost weekly. It was my favorite thing to bond over. He passed away in 2017, so I appreciate these videos as a way to hold onto that memory a bit more.

It's heartwarming to see The Neverhood recognized by somebody of your size and influence. Hopefully it will raise devs awareness to remaster it and not just sell cr*ppy NFTs! (looking at you Doug)
The reality is that the original high-res images for stop-motion are archived, but EA or whoever holds the rights doesn't care about using it, so it just rots... I am sure they would be willing to cut some deal.
For now you can at least check out my upscales and there are at least two projects that I know of. One is remaking this game in 3D inside Unity and other is remaking the game engine to accept upscaled assets.

Seven and a half minutes is actually a pretty long time in a game. It takes about five to cross the entire map in Red Dead Redemption, and most platformer levels can be traversed any arbitrary point to another in 30 seconds or so, a minute or two at the outside.

Ah yes. Quite possibly my most nostalgic piece of media ever. When I was a kid, my grandfather made bootleg copies for all of his kids, and all of us grandkids would go to eachothers houses to try and figure out the puzzles and help eachother beat the game.

This game is a trip. I played this game back in the day when it came out (i was 10/11) and it confused the hell out of me.
The game just starts and explains nothing. I played this with my nephew and wandered around this crazy world for hours. Back then, there were no walkthroughs, haha!
A truly unique experience. Combining games with claymation… love it. A true 90’s gem.

Hell yeah, been looking forward to this video! It's been a real treat to hear Neverhood music on your channel, it always makes me smile.
Something of note though, despite being a niche game, it's still influencing developers today! The visual style of Vokabulantis, an upcoming puzzle/platformer, is heavily inspired by the Neverhood. From the little I've seen, it seems to carry the claymation tradition very well.
