But yeah, basically this is the ongoing struggle for anyone who was left in Ithaca. They are all waiting for their loved ones to return home, but in the end it’s only Odysseus’s family that hold out hope for his return

@@MrJmanmonkey Same! I’ve been thinking this since the first time I heard it, it’s so interesting and entertaining how everything is intertwined in such deep ways.
Wait, now that I think about it…..Odysseus says “And Ithaca’s waiting! My kingdom is waiting! Penelope’s waiting for me!” But, he never says “My mother’s waiting!” or even anything about his son. Because at this point, I have two conclusions. Either Odysseus forgot about his mother, as she really isn’t referenced in any of the songs after Odysseus goes to war, or he was so confident and hopeful that he would get to see his mom when he returned home that he didn’t even think to consider the fact that she may be gone. I really hope it’s the first one or none of them because if it’s the second one im gonna cry.

The saddest part is how Polites and Odysseus's mother don't even notice him, like they're trapped in one moment for ever. I knew it wasn't going to be a happy reunion, but this is worse than I thought. This is even worse than if they had gotten angry and blamed him for their deaths.

This part of the song made me and my sister cry super hard last night during the live stream. It hurt so much to hear the pain in Odysseus’s voice. Everyone’s talking about how talented you are for writing and producing this musical, while I’m over here like, “THIS MAN CAN ACT THROUGH HIS VOCALS BETTER THAN LEGITIMATE ACTORS.” And yes, you are extremely talented for creating the musical but as a theatre kid I admire how you act through your vocals! 😂 You’re mom’s voice is absolutely beautiful❤️

Jorge, I swear even after a few months I cant listen to the underworld without crying at this part. I still have my mom but this part of the song reminds me of my grandmother who I lost back in 2019... I didn't get to say goodbye and Ive been struggling with grief and regret. My grandmother basically raised me due too my mom having to focus on my disabled brother. I honestly wished I spent more time with her before she based but it was at a time when I had a lost of my own mental struggles due to high school. There are so many things I wish I could've talked to her about. But at the same time Im thankful she's no longer suffering with cancer.
The song reminds me that she's still here with me even if shes not here physically.
