Daughters' self-titled album is one of the best punishments I've had all year. In terms of being noisy and aggressive as hell, it's almost up there with that Little Women album I reviewed, but I could see this LP coming across as being a lot more accessible than that one. It's more accessible than Daughters' earlier work, too. Very cohesive, very aggressive, and very pleasurable if you're looking for something to knock you out of your chair.

I think there is an outdoor intro in the video but it got cut off for some reason. Notice how the beginning does look like it's cut off
4 years later it has continued to grow on me. "the hit" feels like standium rock if it had balls

I remember my first listen to this album. I was on a mathcore/noise binge. I played the first track... and before I knew it, the album was over. I barely remember breathing, it had me completely glued to my seat. I couldn't type, I couldn't do anything except just listen to it with the dumbest grin on my face.
This album is otherworldly.

Honestly, It's much better than You Wont Get What You Want. They are both really different experiences. For different kind of audiences

This album was my first introduction to Daughters. I first listened to it back in March and its still really enjoyable. I would agree with a 8/10 score

Daughters is one of those rare bands that only gets better with time, even after a breakup. Don't get me wrong, I love the sassy mathcore of their older shit, but s/t and YWGWYW are masterpieces. Amazing band!!

Album still holds up four years later, I wasn't a huge Daughters fan up to this album really was a great development for them.
What's your opinion on their new album that Fantano gave a 10?
Just started really listening to these guys, and holy shit. I'm ashamed I did not give them much of a chance sooner. I agree with Fantano here about the stylistic changes in this album as compared to their previous ones, being better. Although, I did note a lot of these changes also the album Hell Songs. Canada Songs definitely being their most abrasive "screamie" sound.
Honestly, I was expecting a higher score for this one. Maybe a light to solid 9.
Although, sucks that I didn't actually start following these guys up until recently, I am stoked a bit about the timing as they have a new album coming out soon:) I would have had to wait 5 years since their reunion, 10 years from their last album. Which, I guess ain't that bad, considering I've been waiting forever for a new Tool album.
Anyways, I digress, this album is fucking great. These guys fucking wail. Can't wait for the new album! Thanks man:)

Easily their best stuff, I was getting more of a David Yow thing from the vocals myself.
I have all of Daughters albums and this one is definitely a different style and growth from their previous noisegrind/mathcore albums but it's very genius I think and my favorite songs have to be "Sweet Georgia Bloom" and "the Unattractive Portable Head" I gave this album 10/10
I always thought that the daughters were interesting and that they had potential. This new stuff proves it. Awesome and very unique. It reminds me of the ethos of the Melvins a bit. The brevity thing. But man that guitar tone is just amazing. Even dont mind the vocals.

Absolutely kick ass, caught me with the album cover. So many scenarios suggested in her expression!
TOTAL 10/10 on "You Won't Get What You Want" ...that said, this record gets a 10/10 from me as well...though I must say, Hell Songs might be my ultimate all-time-ever 12/10. I was 18 years old when Hell Songs came out, I'm 30 now, and I don't know if it's because the record is so short or what, but to-date it's easily the record I have listened to more times than any other record I own. Can't get enough of the god damned thing.

I remember someone requesting this at your last blog. Now that I've listened to it, my bones have been shattered and shat out through my pores. In all honesty, my body was literally shaking listening to this.
Definately the best record of 2010. Track 6 and 7 ain't up there with the rest of them, but the rest of the album is untouchable, I think. I understand how some Daughters fans who appreciates the more chaotic sound of their earlier stuff might be disappointed, but in my opinion this record is just as original and heavy as their two first albums. It's just brought to life in another field of their musical spectre. I think Hell Songs is still my favorite, but this one's also a 10 in my book.
I love their sound on this record.

Yeah, I don't think that's happening, my guy...
Hearing some songs from the album...it's definitely a heavy metal album. I felt like some of the songs weren't raw sounding enough-it sounded arranged in a "heavy metal" way, in my opinion. I'm more a fan of noise rock than metal, and this album was fully on the metal side...but that's okay!
Seeing them in September and Brian Chippendale is one of the openers! Pretty hyped.

I enjoyed their stuff off of Canada Songs. Never really got into Hell Songs and this definitely isn't my thing either. I'm sure it could grow on me though
@a2r1v1i2s Nick Sadler wanted to take the band in a more accessible direction with Sam, but Alexis and Jon wanted to keep playing stuff a la Canada Songs.
Antyhony is always on point even noting the nick cave influence which is defiantly there!
