The main theme? It's used in MP3 in the start menu, and when Max plays the piano, a throwback to when Max plays the theme song in MP1 and 2.

Love the guy that voices Max, they definitely chose the right guy to do it. Suites well with the dark tone of the game and one of the best I've played. Plus the soundtrack is awesome too.

If you finish Max Payne 2 in the hardest difficulty, Mona survives. Although I understand that it's not canon.

Is it non canon? I just figured the Mona may have vanished or something between 2 and 3 to keep it up in the air. I mean It's been a while since playing 3 but do they say in that at all if she died?
If she did survived, Max would lives his life with her and there won't be Max Payne 3. So yeah, it's better this way. lol
@Ifrit Good perspective. But since they didn't say anything about it and most of difficulties in Max Payne 2 led to her death. So she's dead.
As I recall, it wasn't quite clear in Max Payne 3 what happened to Mona.
I doubt Max and Mona would live happily ever after, even if she did survive, so either ending still fits the story of Max Payne 3.
Jack Lupino's speech from MP #1 was absolutely epic. He's not the most important character, but certainly the most memorable for me.

Max Payne 2 has the best story line for a video game EVER!! Nothing else comes close!! Max's monologue, the dream sequences, Vinnie Gognitti's bomb suit , the character development, the ever mysterious Mona Sax , the music OMG the orgasmic music, BEST SERIES EVER!

Max Payne and Max Payne 2 was arguably the greatest video game I've ever played. The third was great too. But it messed up. Removing those amazing comic style cut scenes. And not to mention making max payne a fucking body guard from a cop. Lol that was not smooth. First one was the best. 2nd one was an amazing sequel. Following it and surpassed it. Third was great too. But could have been better ( The story line and character development ) !

Why did Max Payne 3 even exist?
Valerie Winterson was going to kill both Max and Mona for Vlad, because Vlad was her boyfriend. Her intentions were not good at all.
But she had a blind kid and she was doing her work because Max and Mona gone too far
I'd hardly call Fabiana a character, she exists more as a damsel in distress who hardly says anything throughout the game. Then she dies.
Stefano Pavone In my opinion, I wouldn't have any of them. Victor is basically just an evil jackass, Marcello is a hard-partying moron, and Rodrigo seems to show very little character until the level where he dies.
I do certainly think the first game was the best, it just had this feeling the others didn't quite have, of this man who has gone off the deep end and has nothing to lose. It's just fantastic. Not that I dislike the others, I think they're all great, I just think the first one is my favorite.

I'm late to the party, but seeing him walk off into the sunset at the end of Max Payne 3 was pretty on point! The airport sequence was cinematic bliss with that song playing as you made your way through. It was a fitting finale, but c'mon we all want more!!! However its better to quit while you're ahead. Payne has had enough pain lol

Captain Baseball Bat Boy or John(Mirra) weren't even options on the list. They just as much impact or more than some of the other characters.

Especially the dark first and second game did a lot to establish video games as an art form. For me this series was th first to employ a real cinematic storytelling and characterdevelopment. Had lots of fun playing this game.
I have two problems with your list.
1. You mention that Winterson's intentions were good when this is not actually the case. While its true she was originally a good detective, she was consumed with her interest in Vlad and ultimately decided she would kill Mona and Max at the construction site.
2. I don't think you can consider Raul Pasos a loyal guy "to the T" like you explained. When he himself was using Max for his own immoral motives. He tricked Max into thinking all he was doing was body guarding the Branco family when in actuality, he was mainly helping to protect Pasos and Marcello in their drug running scheme on the side. Passos wasnt a horrible guy, he wasnt involved in murder or betrayal, he still used Max. But Passos himself was being played by Victor Branco and Becker for their behind the doors human trafficking and organ sales scheme. Everyone got played in that game.

I grew up with these games. I played them again recently and I'm still blown away by the characters in the second game. Their personalities and roles in the story make Max Payne 2 as close to a perfect character-driven game as it can get.

Not only for the story telling, but also for the quotes / used language, storyline, characters, at the time awesome gameplay (bullet time), creativity (the nightmare sequences), soundtrack and the overall atmosphere that was created by all this.

people complain that max payne 3 wasnt as dark as the first 2 installments, but i believe max have faced enough tragedies already. I liked the change in mood max payne 3 provided.
Kapil Katthar wasn't dark? r u kidding me. Fabiana gets shot in the head, her brother gets set on fire . Max payne constantly gets fucked up. Its one of the darkest games i've ever played. Doctors we're harvesting organs from peoples bodies around the city in Brazil. You actually see gore in this game.

we need a HD of the first 2 classics those were my favorites don't get me wrong tho the third was good too but I just wish they kept it in New York and dark and gritty. I'm curious on how a forth installment would do tho

I really hated the fact they ditched the cold gritty night setting of NYC in MP3...even though Brazil was refreshing...I'm the long run it just didn't hit the spark of the dark gritty franchise...
This is why I'm still hoping for a 4th installment that can return to its roots & bring the whole franchise to a well deserved close.
I'm mean yeah or was different, they focused more on Max Payne's alcohol abuse and yearning to move on via leaving his old town to do something new.

There's nothing refreshing about a favela in Sao Paulo, my friend. But I see what you're saying. Definitely a different environment.
if you watch "Cidade de Deus" (despite being about Rio de Janeiro) you'll see how well represented the whole favela atmosphere and riots were on the game, plus the contrasts with the rest of Sao Paulo's city.
Vinnie Gognitti is the best character ever, R.I.P. He would have been great to have in the third one. Passos also should have been higher. Good list, though.

I never played the first game, but I played and beat the second one over and over. The second one was perfect, I think. I may have played the third one, I'm not sure. I just hope that this franchise will go on and produce another game. I don't want it to end. It's too amazing.

I really wanted the alternate ending to shift from MP2. Where Mona is alive at the end of the Hard-Boiled mission.
This game was excellent,huge fan man.Number 2 is personally my fav.
The two standout characters to me were the baseball bat guy, and the crazy guy in the church and they were only honorable mentions. I didnt even remember anyone else.

they definitely need to produce a max payne 4 game all new beginning with connection to prior games, as well as making it as intricate as a batman game. it would be max going up against rouge state situations. should be the best and quite possibly the final chapter for max payne gaming. Max's monologues are poetically inviting death and yet she just can't stop him. It would be interesting to see him in a marvel comic series..

I have had a conflict with this since I finished all Max Payne games, on one hand, I would love to play more games from this franchise, on the other, I liked the happy ending at the end of Max Payne 3 and dont know if want to see him suffer even more, I mean seriously poor guy, give him a break.

Mona isn't actually dead, if you beat Max Payne 2 on a certain mode, it shows she is still alive, and also on one of the TV's there is a hotel commercial before Max turns the TV off and Mona's voice is heard in it. I believe the hotel is called Hotel Mona.

That ending is alternative and won't affect the story. If Mona wasn't dead, Max would've spent his life with her.
Manhunt 3 Idea:
. Complete reboot of story or whatever.
. FPS shooter view with same brutal Third Person executions
. Decent sized open world with quality over quantity
. One car that the protagonist has ( A bummy car similar to the one Michael Myers just happens to have) .
. FPS driving
. Same intense gameplay that has enemies taunting, talking, and mocking you to every unique situation.
. Very realistic stealth and encounters, (possibly could be similar to The Last of Us).
. Very story driven.
. Chunk of side activities would include home invasions that were all unique.
. Possibly some light shooting here and there like the previous titles.
. No guy controlling you
. No grading system
. No paticular limit or requirement for your executions.
. New Execution system
