Good morning team! Gil, time will tell. We have a real test tonight against the Oilers. Although, we should treat all NHL teams the same way, but the fact is, some are better than others, and a few are REALLY better than the rest! I agree with the comments Frogger1952 made about Dobson. I like him, but his play deserves to be backed off a bit. I know that is easier said, with all the injuries we have, but I'm okay with sending him down to the AHL to get his issues worked out, when some of our injured players start making their return. Looking forward to this game tonight. I might not be able to catch all of it. Everyone, have a wonderful day! See you all again tomorrow. Until then.. Let's Go Islanders!!
I agree Dobson needs to clean up his act defensively. Sending him down may help, but there's no way they can afford it now with these injuries and I don't think Lou would do it anyway. I hope he does get a little better on defense but I'm not holding my breath. Also looking forward to tonight's game, it's a test to slow down McDavid and Dreiseitl. Thanks for the comment, Tony and LGI.
Have to agree with you Gil, Dobber was not a great choice in that particular situation. Great job by Pageau & McLean and the team on the faceoffs, hopefully that helps us lock down late leads in the future. Looking forward to my Knicks - Islanders DH tonight! LGI
I am so down on Dobson. He hits absolutely no one. He gets an ungodly amount of ice time and so far he's got a grand total of 0 goals and a -5. My seats are right in front of the Islanders defensive goal in the first and third period. And one thing I've noticed over the last two years is that on their penalty kills and empty net situations is a total lack of aggression. Instead of going out and challenging the shooter, they drift backwards toward goalie. They did this on Saturday, giving New Jersey all kinds of space to shoot. I don't know how, but this needs to be corrected.
They don't challenge enough, frogger1952, you're spot on. The passiveness is a real problem and it's been a constant for this team. Hopefully, Roy can address this, but we'll see if he does. Thanks for the comment and LGI
Steve, I don't trust Lou to makes the necessary moves at all. Then it's up to ownership to do something which they haven't done yet. The roster has a ceiling of barely making the playoffs. We won't be better than that until changes are made. Thanks for the comment and LGI
Good 🌄, Gil, how are you? I respect Patrick Roy and some of his decisions, but putting Noah Dobson and Grant Hutton on the 🧊 while trying to protect a lead late in the game, NOT GOOD, especially since it would cost them the game. Dobson's been played close to 30 minutes a game, and he's wiped. Alexander Romanov was at practice wearing a non contact jersey, and I hope he comes back soon. The Islanders are leading the league in face-offs with a 55%. Now, if they can get it together everywhere else, they'll be just fine. They're in Edmonton tonight, and they've been inconsistent. They're worse than the Islanders when it comes to PK, and if they're smart, they'll advantage of it. HAPPY 🎂, MARK FITZPATRICK. Getting back to the Oilers, I hope they teach Connor McDavid a lesson after what he did after the Finals. Hear from you later, Gil, and LET'S GO ISLANDERS.
I'd love to see the Isles teach a lesson to McDavid. Won't be easy to slow him down. I hope Romanov comes back soon, they miss him for sure. Thanks for the comment, Cindy. LGI.
eh...let's not pretend that mayfield and pluck aren't both prone to giving up game tying goals or breaking down defensively....we have a lot of hurt guys Gil...and Dobson should be able to be more rmore responsible enough already...he needs to grow and learn if this team is going anywhere
He does need to learn and grow. Unfortunate they couldn't hold the lead. Mayfield and Pulock are prone to defensive breakdowns but still better than Dobson at this point in time in their own zone. Thanks for the comment, foleydvm. No easy answers with all these injuries. LGI
Roy has some positives yet can be a bit koo koo when it comes to his coaching. Can be impulsive and make quick moves based on impulse. And why 8 and 34 were out there late in 3-2 game who knows? 44 took the draw, it's his job to take important face-offs and win them late and he didn't. And 8 was on the ice and got caught as hughes sped up ice and scored ot g. No isle was stopping 86 once he got loose unless 30 does and he didn't. Roy may have just pointed to 8. 34 hoping 44 wins the draw. The rookie george wasn't gonna be put out there and knowing isles lead nhl in blown third period leads who really knows what Roy was thinking with injury depleted d rank? And 28 is just about ready to come back meaning george or 34 is headed back to ahl. Roy basically doesn't have the horses to win consistently. That may lead him to impulsive kooky in-game decisions, Too bad 30 keeps isles from a much needed lottery spot so roy can get some horses he needs. And roy started that pull the goalie with 5-6 minutes trailing by 2 or more crap. I saw wings pull the goalie trailing 3-0 to rags with 3 1/2 minutes left, lost the draw and gave up e n g and lose 4-0. Its a low percentage move that rarely works. Teams trailing may score e n g yet keep goalie out and give up e n g so they are just chasing the goal again. On the other hand scum bag coaches like d hunter pull the goalie late in a game when being shut out 2 minutes left trailing 4-0 just to break up opponent shut out bid which hunter once did so there is the flip side to that
Yeah, Sorokin will prevent the Isles from being bad enough to get a good chance at the lottery. I know Roy is dealing with a depleted lineup. 28 coming back will be a big benefit but I hope they keep George up and send Hutton or Cholowski down first. We'll see what they do. Thanks for the comment, Steven. LGI.
Gm Gil. Looking at the standings this team is heading down the same path of more OTL then wins. Dobson needs to be traded and/or sent down to Bridgeport ... Whatever improvement that Trotz got from him has evaporated. This all falls on Lou having built such a bad roster. Given that Dobson is now a veteran player its clear that the team cannot give him another extension.
Eric, they won't send Dobson down to Bridgeport. Could he benefit from it? Sure. But the D is so depleted and it's not a move Lou would make. I think Lou will still sign him to an extension but I prefer a bridge deal to a long-term until Dobber cleans up his defense. Thanks for the comment, always good to hear from you. LGI
I agree, not while they're protecting a lead. I hope he does show improvement but I'll believe it when I see it. Thanks for the comment, e.n.yjay1925. LGI
another point .. when we go 5v6 .. we play NOT to lose .. we lose all aggression, we lose all forecheck ... we become five pylons waving sticks .. it is really annoying .
When you have a depleted roster you need to assess who is on the bench and who would be best in certain situations ... last 5 minutes? Right now Dobson is not an option ... they miss Romanov ... Sorry, but my go-to D are going to be Pulock and Mayfield ... (Mayfield?! ... well, he blocks shots ... ) Having Dobson out there is NOT the right call ... I agree with you Gil ... George should have been the third ... You can't put Dobson, Hutton or Cholowski out there ... call the timeout! give them a break ... but right now, that's the best three for that scenario IMO
Spot on gallegorider149. That's just not smart coaching. A good coach anticipates these possibilities. He also had a timeout left. Thanks for the comments and LGI
Hi Gil! IMO Dobson should have worked on his strength and a little more muscle. A pure liability defensively in general. Confused why a non-physical D man, who could not clear out a puppy from the crease--would be there in that spot. Geez!! He should have improved his defensive game by now and because of that--I can’t pay him his 9-10m--that’s insane. Let someone else pay it!! Look at George--he looks like a prize and cheap for now. Once again-Louless has another built in excuse!! It’s maddening!! I agree Gil--real bad move by Roy!! Play out the year and dump away at the TDL no matter where 🤬🤬🤬🤬 they are. Take care Gil--let’s try and get another loser point boys!! The odds are very good!!
He needs to get strong but I think his bigger issue is his lack of hockey sense. Either would help improve him and he does need to be better in the defensive zone. As of now, tough to pay him a big contract for 8 years. We'll see what Lou does. A bridge deal makes more sense to me. Thanks for the comment, Frankie. Good insight. LGI
Gil, I hate to keep commenting, but ... how do our special team coaches still have jobs? The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
Comment as often as you like, gallegorider149. Your comments are always insightful. As far as special teams coaches go, they changed the PK coach this offseason but no immediate improvement has been noticed. Lou is typically loyal to his guys but if we don't see improvement soon, yeah, something has to change. The problem may be more with personnel than with strategy, although I think both are factors Thanks for the comment. LGI.
Dobson is a huge disappointment. How many times has he been on the ice, with seconds left and the other Team scores. Too many times,he can’t be trusted in those moments. Years ago he was touted as a up and coming star,I’m not seeing that. He’s got a nasty shot and can score, but most times he’s passing it off Barzy. He lacks confidence,he doesn’t hit and lacks speed. He’s digressing and plays like a old man. What a shame.
He is regressing, Patricia and defensively, he's a liability. Offensively, he has the skills but his hockey IQ isn't great so he doesn't always make the best decisions. Thanks for the comment, Patricia. LGI

Enjoy the double header, Darrell, I love those kinds of nights. The faceoffs have been awesome, hope they keep it up. Thanks for the comment and LGI
