Without the Khmer Rouge regime, Cambodia today would certainly be economically catching up with neighboring Southeast Asian countries. such as urbanization, development of transportation, electricity, internet and possibly a Chinese-controlled economy I hate Khmer Rouge even though I am not Cambodian
Looked like a vibrant city. Sad to think a couple of years after this, the city would fall to the Khmer Rouge. I'm sure a lot of the people in this video fell victim to the Khmer Rouge genocide.

Cambodian people could enjoy relatively wealthy life before the ruthless rule of the Pol Pot. I wonder how many of people in this video could survive in the dark age of Pol Pot.
My family were pharmacists and teachers in Kampot and Phnom Penh during the civil war. They were middle class, but they got a scholarship to live in the capital and go to a good university. They were middle class, but not rich, so most of my family survived. When they were interrogated by the Khmer Rouge, they lied about their jobs, ethnicity, and social class to survive. They pretended to be poor farmers to survive, but some of my family were killed later on. They worked extremely hard to survive and escaped as refugees to America after the Khmer Royge were defeated. To this day, they still have PTSD from the Khmer Rouge
Joining the military should be mandatory for all men during the Khmer republic time . If all the men joined in 1970 , Khmer republic would won the war . But these people in this video have money , didn’t care about the war and didnt worry about who would win the war. They left it to the people who needed money to join the army to fight the Khmer Rouge. It was a fatal mistake
Uh…no. Khmer Republic wasn’t just fighting Khmer Rouge, North Vietnamese and Vietcong helped the Khmer Rouge. And young men were drafted. Khmer Republic army probably would’ve continued fighting had they not been misled that the war was ending, especially with Sihanouk returning to the country. Why do you think there are photos of people on the streets cheering as the KR rolled through the streets? People were rejoicing, thinking the war had ended and then they were ambushed by the KR.
