Love that "teacher speak" to parents! I had to do it today, as our grading period ends Friday and I have SEVERAL students who are failing. My calls to parents went "Hi there, it's (student's name)'s teacher! I was just looking at grades, and noticed she is missing some assignments (describes them). She has until Friday to turn them in, and it will help her grade!" Not once did I mention anyone FAILING, but everyone seemed pretty receptive!

I have 6 classes and gave 46 F’s!! I talked to my principal and told her I feel like I’m failing them somehow but these kids have to WANT to learn, or at least be willing! Today our new semester started and I stayed from 2:40-5:00 calling parents whose kids were grade gremlins and didn’t do a lick of work in my ckassThen I was so upset I called six parents with Progress Praise telling them how much I appreciate their hard work! The parents I called were a bit shocked I’d be calling them to tell them something good about them! LOL!

Back in the 70's my parents were told I was a great helper and very social. My mom said "oh, so she needs to learn to sit down and focus on her own work". Yeah, ADHD wasn't diagnosed back then. We were all just "hyper" or "busy bees".

As for the bribing kids to "make you proud" during an observation- hell yes! They always rose to the challenge, and I always paid up.

I love the "teachers have favorite students" damn straight. Currently mine is someone who when I need something brought down to the office they are right there willing lol. No shame in saying that here. Is this student my smartest? "God no" but they try.

I shamefully laughed hardest at "We all cry in our cars." That's so terrible, but you said it so funny.
Now I'm making a shirt that says "Teaching is hard. Crying helps."

I was the idiot in math class. I was the argumentive one in English Studies. I was the forgetful one in History. I was the lazy one in Gym. But I was the most helpful to any teacher who was in need of anything at any time. Staying after class to help with projects. Carrying things to their car. Helping to lighten the mood in class with a joke. Some times just an ear to listen to any problems they may have.

I have to disagree that being a leader means being bossy. In order to lead, you have to inspire people to follow you, and I don’t know many people who would follow a bossy person.
