MIDO hands down. Better bracelet with a great micro adjutment, day-date in black background, the orange indicator for seconds, ... and very very confortable.
Very nice video. I really appreciate your way of comparing watches. I had those both specific models : I prefer the Mido. More confortable (divers extension on Seiko bracelet hurts my wrist), more precise !
Never liked used items but these are both great watches ..I think I’m buy the mido new and hood it for a life time slight edge goes to the mido with the diver extension .
I really like the, both but I prefer the Mido. It has that old style design without looking like a submariner. Oddly enough it’s the only diving watch that has a day date function I enjoy. I just wish the lume was better.
Always been a fan of Mido, the Mediterranean blue Ocean Star Tribute is a beauty if you don’t mind a shiny, fully polished dress diver. The Seiko definitely has the nicer case but usual and more often then not a bad bracelet. I feel you get more for what you can grab them for in the Mido but Seiko has the diving heritage and a crazy fan base. I’d take the Blue model Mido right now. Thanks for the comparison! Solid as usual 👊🏼
I know that Seiko dive watches are my favourite, however; this Mido beats Seiko 061, due to 80 hours Power Reserve, better movement, Day Date Configuration, better bracelet, bezel alignment, smaller size and better overall looks.
I also have both watches. Seiko slays Mido in bezel action . Mido isn't hard to turn but VERY slippery, that said Mido does have a better Caliber. I liked the day date but don't dislike that it's not on the Seiko. Otherwise agree about everything else. LUME SUUX on the Mido. Both great watches !!! I paid $500 for the Mido and $550for the Seiko. Both in "Like New" condition. I'll be keeping both.
Mido used to be the cheapest swiss made alternative for autos and chronometers. Seiko was much better but a lower tier. That's why it was a much better option. Now at the same price it is difficult to justify it. I love Seiko but I keep the ones I already have. And mido, I love the 2824 ones with chronometer cosc certificate
It’s not often I’d say this but I’d totally go for the seiko here...that’s a great model. Alignment issues I can deal with...I can fix it. This one and the MM300 are the only seikos that catch my interest anymore.
I have that Mido in the GMT configuration and love it. It is hefty at 44mm but wears better than it looks on paper. Excellent review - thank you. You have confirmed my thoughts on getting the 40mm three hander.
The regular Mido Ocean Star Captain 200m would have a been a better campo watch. It is cheaper and has a more similar bracelet to the Seiko. I love all my Mido watches.
I really wanna add one of those seikos to my collection. I recently got a similar mido Ocean Star but mine is in pvd rose gold (that’s actually holding up great). It has a fitted rubber strap but it has the awesome clasp!
Where are your favorite grey market places to shop for watches? I'd slurp up a black mido ocean star tribute for $700! Let the other guy put the first scratches on it.
$600 to $700 for the Mido on the grey market?? Really? Where? I have been looking to but this watch for over six months. I have not found a single one new or used for less than $950
@@silverghost4206 Yes. I found one on Ebay...mint condition for about 850. More than I wanted to pay, but I couldn't wait any longer. I really wanted that watch.
@@silverghost4206 Yes. I still own the watch. I really dont wear it frequently...I am kinda saving it for occasions when I am looking for a "dressy diver". I definitely would not wear it on an everyday basis as it looks like it would be a bit of a scratch magnet. I have over forty watches. So none of my watches is worn very much. I usually use an Orient Mako USA II or Hamilton Khaki as my everyday watch.
Dont congratulate me on my 40 watches. It is insane and I know it is. I just cant help myself. I see a really cool looking watch and I cant get it out of my head until I buy it. I have watches that I have owned for 18 months and have never worn. Like the Mido, I look at them and think that they are too beautiful to wear because they might get scratched. I tend to buy only "affordable" watches. I really start to sweat if I have to pay more than 1500 for a watch.....I just can't justify it in my head. The result of that is they they just accumulate. I know that I should just sell them because they all are in Mint condition with boxes, papers etc. But I ask myself if I really want to go through the hassle of selling a watch on eBay just to get a few hundred dollars in return. Speaking of Bulova, that is what I wore today.....Bulova HACK Vietnam War edition. It is a perfect size (38 mm). It is a perfect rendition of a 1960s military field watch....gorgeous dial with just the right amount of aging on the lume. It was only about 300 dollars. In my mind it is a better looking watch than the Hamilton Khaki Automatic or Khaki Mechanical. Yes, I own both of those too. Like I said, it is insane. @@silverghost4206
Very Easy Choice: Always Mido a much Older Brand than Seiko and during the huge Year Difference Watchmakers at the Mido company have not "Slept" until the Seiko Brand saw the Light of Day, End of Saga. By the way, all credit to Video maker👍
Chris great comparison on both watches but I definitely favor your 061 . To me nothing beats a Seiko diver . Plus your 061 is ISO rated . Do you still have the sbdc033 Blumo in your collection? That’s still my favorite watch I own .
Power reserve ( of more than 1.5 days) is nonsense. If I lay down my watch for more than the night I would wind it, of course. And thats it. But all „experts“ here on YT agree to those empty marketing statements that 80 h of pr is a revolutionary step forward. No its not. And I bet there is a significant trade off between overlong pr and accuracy even if they say there is not.
I bought the same Mido Ocean Star in blue precisely to fill the void left by selling my last Seiko diver. I just had to get away from Seiko. It's their misalignments and inconsistent 4R and 6R movements that did it to me - I've owned 5 of them and all but one had an issue. So I did my research and I was prepared for the anemic lume on the Mido. But you have to think what you're going to use the watch for. For me, the Mido is for water and active weekend activities, all in daylight. So it's fine and not a deal breaker. It seems entry level Seikos have great lume and poor movements while entry level Swatch brands have decent movements but consistently poor lume.
I never have owned a swiss watch, Im really into japaneses, but now I want to buy my first swiss and my options are the ocean star 200C and the ocean star Tribute. Is really that quality difference between a Seiko (like the marinemaster or 62mas range) and this mido? I feel that this kind of seikos are very well made, it is just the bracelet clasp that should be better. Maybe is me, that I dont have that much knowlage to see the diffence?
@@victoriol Seiko Marinemaster lineup has a very fine quality in my opinion, but some models are way more expensive than this particular Mido model. With what you expend in some marinemaster models you can afford a beautiful swiss made Oris diver for example.
Seiko movements are crap! Very inaccurate in my experience. Only Grand Seiko offers high quality movements. If you want a Seiko I suggest an Invicta instead - cheaper and the same movements, which are strangely often more accurate than in Seiko watches!

The Mido is much much nicer.
I think so too
I fully agree

That Mido is a good looker and a perfect size
Love all the videos you do on the sbdc061, it's currently my only dive/beater watch
Thanks 👍 it's a great watch and kind of my benchmark for affordable divers
Haha same here, been my only watch for the last year or so.
The bezel alignment issue is such a turn off...
The Mido is the best option by far in my opinion.

Take a peak into Mido's diving heritage, you might be surprised.
@@chrispotter2948 No doubt both extremely solid pieces with a solid history of creating beautiful divers.

The Seiko bracelet for your 063 can be found on eBay 👍🏻

The new ETA movements with 80 hour power reserve are FANTASTIC. A 6r15 is a joke. When they were $300 they made sense.
The Mido murders the Seiko aesthetically and technically.
100% what he said

Don’t forget, Seiko is ISO certified to 200m and Mido is not. Both are great watches in under 1K category.
ISO certification doesn't matter, let's be real.
I have that Mido in the GMT configuration and love it. It is hefty at 44mm but wears better than it looks on paper. Excellent review - thank you. You have confirmed my thoughts on getting the 40mm three hander.
Seiko is the king of making large watches wear much smaller than the measurements would lead you to believe.
They're also the kings of poor QC. I have had a lot of experience. Mido makes better watches with better QC and now better value.
i'm a huge SEIKO fan ;)
Both are great watches and brand name. Love them both👌👌
The regular Mido Ocean Star Captain 200m would have a been a better campo watch. It is cheaper and has a more similar bracelet to the Seiko. I love all my Mido watches.
The Mido is significantly better, not really a fair fight. I remember when Seiko represented value.

The singular of "indices" is "index."
Both good choices. I'll never understand why Seiko can't fix their alignment problem. They could if they wanted to. No more Seikos for me, ever.
Seiko is overpriced nowadays and also lazy at designing (5kx & dresskx). For the same money i would prefer the Orient instead.
Agree $1000. I'm actually at the point where it's Grand Seiko or nothing. Seiko made more sense when they were $3-400

Swiss Made, caliber 80 made by Swatch group.
