ABOUT THE HIKE
In November 2022 I spent 4 days hiking alone in the Wadi Rum Desert in Jordan, then found myself among the Bedouins of the Zalabia tribe for 2 days. The Wadi Rum desert is the shooting location of many popular movies like The Martian, Dune and Star Wars because of its red sand and mountains miraculously shooting vertically out of the sand.
My route started in Wadi Rum Village and after I spent the night at Quiet Desert Camp I started my hike. I passed around the Nassrani massif over the Red Sand Dunes to Anfaishiyya inscriptions. These inscriptions of camels, people, children and tools are some 2000 years old and inscribed by trading caravans, depicting their movement through the desert. I camped on top of the biggest sand dune in the area.
On day 2 I made my way to Mushroom rock then via Abu Khashaba Canyon to the white desert where I spotted several loose (wild) camels. I got to my water drop I made a 2 days earlier with a jeep and camped near Burdah Rock Bridge
On day 3 I visited Um Fourth, a large natural bridge and got back to the red desert where I camped on a rock formation in the middle of the desert.
On day 4 I visited Khazali Canyon. At the entrance the walls are covered in inscriptions dating back up to thousands of years. The different types of Thamudic, Nabatean and Islamic inscriptions indicate people have been coming here for many eras. In the late afternoon I was driven into the desert by Saleem from Quiet Desert camp to spend 2 days with the actual Bedouins deep in the desert. I didn't speak Arabic, they didn't speak English. The day after they held an engagement celebration to which I was invited. I spent the day helping prepping: catching goats, setting up the tent, etc. The meal is a traditional meal called Mansaf. The shooting of the guns is a tradition for this celebration.

@@Liisa3139 As a person who's hiked in an array of different locations around the world, I'm well aware of this, but Harmen's videos showcase the beauty of hiking that isn't captured in many other channels whereby it's a bunch of GoPro selfie footage...
Props to this dude for all those crazy spots he managed to tuck the camera away...I tried to ignore imagining all the behind the scenes action that was taking place but as his journey progressed and the locations of the camera got crazier and crazier I became obsessed with how much went into making this video. Well done lad.

I am assuming that he has to use a drone to do all kinds of shot coverages since drones are programmed to implement stable/stationary shots from any distance (high above where it's tracking him) and including the ones where he is passing through. The drone can be moved ahead and left to hover it 3 feet ground in the direction of his approach and passing through for such shots. If you have a good drone and know how to do this and get a good feel for it, making the movie should go more easily. At least that's how I would do it. It doesn't make sense to be running around all over the desert positioning cameras just to take passing shots.
One of the most beautiful places on earth, I miss the silence watching the mountains.

I'm watching it for the 3rd time now. In the 80s as a kid my family was in Saudi Arabia for a couple of years. I don't remember much, but I do remember our trips to the desert, the big rocks, eating kabsa with the beduins. Getting incredibly nostalgic now...

Having visited wadi rum countless times, and knowing how truly amazing that place is, I still couldn’t take my eyes of the screen in total awe! I genuinely advice everyone to take the trip to wadi run. I live only 4 hours away and wish I could spend every weekend in that magical place ❤

Miraculous and flawless. Maybe especially in this Middle Eastern desert, your journey looks like an act of worship or prayer (your viewers could say "he walketh through dry places, seeking rest"). I can see that there are most probably rational reasons for camping in such a place on a rocky pillar, but it has something saintly about it too, say St Simeon Stylites. So very much to admire here: the switching from panorama to detail (those camel prints in the sand!), the intense colour of the rocks and the sand - and then what visual impact the green trees or those drimia maritima plants have. You took us into your solitude, took us inside your outsider's vision of beauty.

Wow this is simply stunning. Takes me right back when I spent a lot of time in Jordan in the early 2000s - Rakabat Canyon, Burdah Bridge, Jebel Rum, spending time with the Bedouin and drinking their sweet tar like tea, goat and rice eaten by the hand. This video captured it all beautifully, it was like watching my own memories on film, thank you 🙏

This video is incredibly beautiful and simply stunning! I visited Wadi Rum in 2017 and it is, till today, probably one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. Sadly, I only did it as a guided day-tour. To see it all by yourself, sleeping under the stars and really experiencing the desert and beduin life for several days must have been live changing.

These four short ayaat join together the boundaries of the world of the Arabs - the first people to be addressed by the Qur’an. They also group together the prominent ends of creation in the universe as they speak of the sky, earth, mountains and camels. All these aspects of creation are always in front of man wherever he is. Whatever man’s level of civilization and scientific advancement, they remain within his world and within his sphere of consciousness. When he considers their roles, they suggest to him something of what lies beyond. In each of them there is a miracle of creation. The distinctive, incomparable work of the Creator is clear in them all, and this alone is sufficient to indicate the true faith. Hence the Qur’an directs to them the attention of every human being.
