Residents say they pay a lot of taxes but the city doesn't spend money to clean the sidewalks

- Hello everyone !
Today is a very hot day, almost 40 degrees, we are going to clean grass and trash at an intersection, next to rich households in a city of my country, if the city does not hire people to clean the sidewalk, the neighbors can spend some time to clean the area near where they live. But they do nothing, they also dump trash on the sidewalk and live near a landfill and a forest. While sitting and resting and drinking water, a resident asked and they said that this sidewalk has not been cleaned for more than 7 years, the grass will dry up in the dry season and grow again in the rainy season. Although the residents pay a lot of taxes, the city government has never cleaned the sidewalk here. Households from other places bring trash here to dump and the neighbors say but they still dump at night. There is no punishment from the city for those who dump trash. The residents have sent a petition to the city but there is no answer. Gradually, they have to live with the landfill near their home. If there is a lot of trash, they will burn it. We advise them to put up signs prohibiting dumping and not burning inorganic trash because it will pollute the environment. Then they leave without saying thank you. We continue to fight the dusty sidewalks and hot sun, almost exhausted but still trying to finish before dark.
As usual, we cleared the grass, sorted inorganic waste into trash cans, then dumped the grass and organic waste into the wasteland to let them decompose. I don't put grass in the trash because it will overload and cause difficulties for trash collectors. We can only contribute a small part to help the community. My wish is to soon save enough money to buy more tools and machines that can help work faster, to clean more places.

In Japan, in urban areas, the government does a lot of the work, but in rural areas, even mowing is done by local residents.
Under the jurisdiction of the local government.
There are even fines for not participating.
I wish everything in Vietnam was like in Japan.

The problem is that many people think: "I pay taxes, that's a city matter. Why should I do anything about it? I already have enough to do. Let someone else do it."
Is it the case in your area that the city has to clean the pavements or is someone else responsible?
In our area, for example, residents are obliged to clean the part of the pavement in front of their property or to clear it of snow and ice in winter. If they fail to do so, they will be prosecuted. This can be expensive if someone falls and injures themselves because of a neglegted pavement.
Only certain areas are cleaned by the city.

For me it depends on the size of the area that needs to be taken care of. In the end it is what is in front of my house. I’ve worked hard to make my house look nice. Why would I do 85% of the job and leave the rest on the city.
It’s like if you spend $1000 on the house and have a few other appliances to make everything look excellent. I don’t go looking for the cheapest appliance. No I’ll go the distance rather than look cheap.

When they see a sidewalk full of overgrown grass, they think it's a garbage dump and it's okay to dispose of their trash, by cleaning it up. A mulching device would help to make smaller piles of waste. And sharper tools will make the work go faster.
@@davidhamm5626 it’s so easy for us arm-chair critics not doing the work to critique and suggest faster methods. But you have to remember they are driving there on scooters and can only bring small tools. How would they get a thrasher or ride on mower there? As the above poster mentioned.. so much admiration for the labor they can do deploying simple tools.
@@user-Carolyn-k7e Not all ride only Scooters. I seen some have some Vary Nice Toyota Trucks that in the US would cost Well over $50,000... But again, that don't matter. I Love watching for how they are doing it. Only Critic I have, Get some Longer Handles so they don't have to bend over so much..
@@user-Carolyn-k7e I did not know that they went to each job site on scooters ! I have only seen them working. So you are correct, having even a small version of a tool like that, on a small cart, would not work.

I really enjoy reading your personal comments under “more” that gives us more information about your work in that particular area. So sad but true that none of the rich residents are willing to keep up the area and that there are those lazy people dumping trash when there is a land field near by! What is wrong with people these days that they don’t take care of their beautiful outdoor living conditions? We’d give our eye-teeth to have all those beautiful sidewalks where I live!

I wondered about the council of your country. Surely they employ council workers who go around cutting and cleaning these areas. I mean the country I'm from, we have rubbish collection every week. We have a night sweeper on a little truck truck that keeps the gutters clean, and if you complain loud and long enough someone will mower public areas. Most footpaths are taken care of by the home owners outside their homes.So I guess the council from each area that you do,need to pull their finger out and do something. I mean your people's footpaths are amazing. Their like square tiles, our ones are just straight up and down Grey concrete.

そのような人には法律で罰せられます。
