I had a planet in stellaris that resisted my subjugation (I was an insectoid race hellbent on taking everything over.) 5 year long orbital bombardment. 5 years. the ground invasion lasted over 3 months.
I had a game in Stellaris where my nation was the Galatic Empire. My Home system had 4 worlds I colonized plus my homeworld but we had a scourge invasion event. My home system was one of the original landing points but each core world fought for years. For the first two years my Imperial Fleet Fought hard but all ships would be destroyed. I turned all my core worlds into bunker worlds ready for the coming landings. For 127 in-game years, my core worlds fought landing invasion after landing invasion till only my homeworld stood by which a united front against the scourge had finally made it and pushed out the hive mind. I know the empire lost about 80% of its population during the war.
“Sir what do we do! The scourge is outnumbering our skyward lances, our orbital defensives, aerospace divisions, we’re outnumbered!” *gives soldier a gun* *”We hold them.”*
I remember one of my early Stellaris games I went to war with a neighbouring Empire, one of My fleets was they heading back to the border after a raid on their territory only for them to ambush it with a superior fleet, I would've lost the battle, most of my fleet and essentially the war effort. As they engage, my allies spawned in, saving the fleet and by extension my whole Empire. Say what you will about the A.I but it was truly a god send moment
I remember I had the last fleet to face the scourge. I was outnumbered and my ark protection plan in the L sector was still being worked on. Not many empires could hold on. but I called in every favor and bribed everyone I could to get some backup. I merged the fleets together and made "The Trailblazers" They won. and we pushed back the scourge. But there was so many ruins. The fleet remained at the entrance of the L sector. Always at the ready to carve a path to a better future.
Fought to retake one of my ecumenopolis planets (Palantine was lost in the first war to a white peace midway through reconquering it after a surprise attack deep in my core territory). After 10 years of prep I sent a 150 unit army group down (10,000s of combat power made up from clones, recruits, droids, synths & biological horrors) to the surface to retake what had been turned into a fortress world filled with enemy psionic commandoes. Another 3 armies of equal strength joined them before it was liberated with less than 60units surviving in a battle that lasted 3 years. It was a slaughter.

how I build every planet I have in stellaris by mid pop they can reliably put a stop to multiple prethoryn invasions quite easily left one to be bombarded and invaded for two years while my fleet rampaged there back lines and it was fine
Look up the Millenial Choirs and Orchestras version. Pretty sure it's the original version that is used for the Fall Rockwell event in a HoI4 mod this video is based on.
4300 hours here, stellaris is worth it, especially if you RP it. HOI4 is stuck on rails IMO(830 hours). stellaris is extremely random in galaxy generation, so you never know what type of civlization will spawn near you, what precursor you will get, what things may occur(nanites? War in the heavens? great Khan?) I go into every game with a plan, but always having to deal with all the curve balls the game throws at me. The learning curve is easier than HOI4, but not knowing the events and how to react/deal with them will be the hardest part. Should make your first few games really wild. At release the game was about an inch deep "lore" wise(events and things to do). Over the years paradox has done an amazing job in bringing new content to the game, and has kept it engaging. I kinda wish i could have gotten into the game later and not from the beginning, so i could experience everything now new, all at once.
Stellaris has the BEST mods out of all Paradox games, like, literally the best ones, Gigastructural engineering, ACOT (with adding such as “ACOT: secrets beyond the gates, AoT, Secrets of the shroud and possibly ACOT override), planetary diversity (with two addons it becomes near perfect), Stellaris evolve and that’s only the beginning
