  • 2020 at Penn Medicine was unlike any other in the long history of our health system. We announced our first successful uterus transplant, became the official health system of the Philadelphia Flyers, re-named a SEPTA station Penn Medicine Station...and that was all before the word "coronavirus" was on anyone's mind.
When COVID-19 began to take hold in our region, our doctors, nurses, environmental services staff, and thousands of other members of our Penn Medicine family sprung into action. We set up testing sites, revamped protocols and procedures in clinical areas, and got to work researching everything we could about this new coronavirus and how we could find an end to the pandemic. Through it all, our team stayed positive and laser focused on providing the best possible care for patients regardless of the circumstances.
