    • @briancase6180
      @briancase6180 2 года назад +1

      No, not true. The monoclonals are very specific and have a, by definition, narrow spectrum. The efficacy is much lower than the vaccines. You are much better protected with vaccination. With monoclonals, you must catch the window at the beginning of an infection during which the antibodies can be effective. With an infusion, there's much, much greater chance for a secondary, bacterial infection. There's the potential damage to a vein that must be considered in an elderly patient. With the non-IV administration, you get four relatively high-volume injections, which, again, increases the chance for a secondary bacterial infection.

      The cost of Regeneron’s two-drug cocktail is $1,250 per infusion, according to Kaiser Health News. The federal government currently covers this.
      Compare this to the cost of a single dose of the COVID-19 vaccine - about $20 - which is also covered right now by the federal government.
      The cost of GSK’s and Vir’s monoclonal antibody costs about $2,100 per infusion. This is covered by a combination of government payments, reimbursements, and GSK’s copay program, reports USA Today.

      Maxine Eubanks-Reid - it is not a vaccine, it’s a treatment.

      @@nomoreoriginalnames6422 A "step" the FDA skipped for approval was they only reviewed the data up to March (around 5 months of data). There was 5 additional months (March through August) of data available on the EAU of pfizer. But they disregarded it. I believe the normal FDA approval on a drug is supposed to be 2 years of data.
      Regardless of our opinions on the actual vax, this is slightly concerning.
      I'm all for people opting into the vaccines, but I personally would also like to see outpatient and early treatment available to those who prefer it. They should not be left to "pay for their decisions" any more than the obese, smokers, drinkers, etc should be left to "pay for theirs".
