So far, so good with the Air 3. My only complaint is the RC2 battery life is horrid. I did an update (initial and it was easy 1st time through), used it to fly the drone about 20 minutes, then shut the drone down and used the remotes map to place some waypoints and save the path. That took up 75% of my RC2 battery life.
On vertical shooting; While it doesn't actually rotate like a mini does, what it does do is it uncrops from the normal 16x9 aspect ratio to the full sensor's 4x3 ratio and then crops in for vertical. This does give you a slightly larger field of view vertically than just shooting in the normal horizontal mode and then cropping in post.
The really big bummer is the different aperture at the 1x and 3x zoom - which was expected, though. I discovered a new bummer the hard way. Obstacle avoidance isn't all that they say it is. Mine was taken out by dead branches of a lodgepole pine. Admittedly, I should have seen it before it happened, so I'll take some of the blame. Yet, oddly enough the obstacle alarm came on and it never braked as in my settings. In the short time that it took me to look up, the props were already tearing into the dead wood, and tumbling down it came from about 70 feet through many branches on the way down. Not a pretty ending.
I owned Mavic 2 Pro and Phantom 4 Pro, and to be honest I don't see any significant improvements in image quality compared to Mavic 3. On paper it has larger sensor, in reality, the noise reduction on Mavic 3 is quite aggressive, and there's no option to control it via app. Same story with sharpening setting, which I had on Phantom 4 Pro, but not on Mavic 3. Although flying experience is better on Mavic 3, image quality is not what I expected.
Are the ND filters really included in the fly more combo? I do not see them anywhere being mentioned in the package content and on the DJI website is seems to be an extra option for USD $99.
@@kylemeshnaI’ve seen multiple videos saying they are suppose to come with the flymore but as you said…when I ordered mines it didn’t say it was included. Im just going to wait for the Freewell Kit is available. Im not a fan of the DJI ND Filters.

Looking at the site... it appears you are correct 😐 They sent them with our unit, and I assumed everything we got was the $1549 FlyMore combo, since we had everything else included. I'd recommend getting them to help with the aperture issue discussed.

The smaller sensor is actually an upgrade. While Back Side Illumination is still not on par with true stacked sensors, it is still a major improvement over the standard CMOS. This more than makes up for the Air 3 sensor being slightly smaller than it's predecessor's sensor.
Sorry but i find the image the image of the 1/1.3" quad bayer looks very digital. It's just oversharpened by the internal algorithm and looks amateurish. Clearly not an upgrade. DJI should have kept a 1" CMOS as main cam and add the 70mm 1/1.3" as bonus. At this point the Air3 is just a Mini3Pro with an added 70mm, but way more heavier, bigger and louder.
Personally compared to Air 2S, I think ill be okay with the stacked, dual native ISO front lit sensor that is better in low light and has better image quality? Not to mention a Telephoto lens on a second equally matched sensor? Noise management, sharpness, lack of chromatic aberration and a lens that's an order of magnitude better. Size IS significant, all factors being equal, but they are not equal in this scenario. The newer sensor is superior in just about every (video) side by side with the only exception being SOME photo IQ. (Original Dobo, Quickass Tutorials have some eye opening side by side comparisons. Now if UPS would just GET here. Been driving around with my Air 3 since 7am. Some 9 hours now. Grrrrr.
Hey! Did you tested it in low light ? The Air2s was very good in low light with the right settings. Also, did you get rid of the oversharpening algorithm in Dlog-M ? thanks
The air series has never had aperture control so it was never expected, especailly since its just the mini 3 pro. The lack of 5k and D-Log like the Air 2s might put some people off too.
Yeah it’s never been there so it’s understandable. It’s really just the one thing that’s missing from making this thing basically perfect. DLogM is pretty close and 5k doesn’t really feel necessary to me
I found it easier to shoot horizontally and crop for vertical and just try to keep everything in the center. You can always keyframe to recenter if needed too
Although aperture control is extremely useful I do think that the overall functionality of the Air 3 makes it a way better option than the Mavic, particularly for the price.
Kyle I have a question that I seem to be unable to get a clear answer on. My mavic 2 with Hasselblad has a true 20 megapixel camera, but my mini 3 says 48 megapixel although its adequate it does not compare to my MP2. How do you think the air 3 would stack up against the MP2 just in image quality, not flight features or anything else just cameras? Thanks in advance
What about the purple color cast that the 1 1/3“ sensor in 48MP photo mode produces in high contrast scenes? This is a big flaw on the Mini 3 Pro, most likely produced by de-beyering… is this also noticeable on the Air 3?
Agree @ 6:25... And, ability to switch camera/lenses without stopping record... And audio recording on the controller (as android supports that) (like you can on the RC-RM330 controller USB-C port) For the rest, such a great drone!!! And does anyone know how grab the Screenrecording from the SD card??????? (like you can with the RC-RM330?)

But probably will go for the air 3
So I sold my mavic 3 because I never used the second camera. I keep saying I’m going to get the mavic 3 pro but for the price, this drone is in heavy consideration. I haven’t quite sold myself on not being able to control the aperture. That is KILLING me. lol.

Is the Air 3 a Mavic? I have never heard of the Air series being Mavics (I am a Noob though) I have come from flying drones for the sake of flying and building them, to beginning to do photography with them. I liked the look of the Mavic 3 series, especially the pro, of course... but the cost was very high, I couldn't justify spending that much on one drone. The obvious answer was not to buy ONE drone (haha)... I bought both! When people ask which is my favorite, I say the one by DJI is my favorite. I am a beginner (in drone photography)... my advice to someone wanting to get into the hobby, either will be perfect, whichever you get you will be happy with... whichever yo get, you will wish you got the other... so, do what I did, buy one then save up for the other as well! Greetings from Australia (BTW, I just subscribed and tripped over some Kryptonite and strangely, it had no effect on me at all??!! Obviously, subscribing worked! Imagine that!!)
Your video was helpful. I just ordered mine and it will probably amaze me, sense I am going from a 7 year old Phantom 4 pro plus to this. I will save my money for the RC Pro controller, just for the HDMI port. I love flying with my Skyzone SKY O4X goggles. Which I have been using with my Phantom.
The one thing that sets apart the Mavic 3's apart from the Air 3 is the Hasselblad micro 4/3rd sensor which imho has superb noise handling while shooting in low light. Would have expected you to speak about the Hasselblad offering in addition to aperture control and the 3rd camera when comparing it to the Mavic3 pro
I'd say the Fatal flaw in all modern drones is that they've got big brother inside. In other words they won't fly or obey the pilots commands based on geofencing.
They should have included the 100w charger with the drone, without it, its pretty much useless. Charging takes more than half a day. Imagine doing back to back shoots. So add another $100 into the price and the cost of NDs which is needed for this drone for lack of aperture control.
At this point I have so many good USBC chargers that I've never found that to be an issue. So many things take USB-C that I just bring one 100w Charger with me everywhere and call it a day. The lack of NDs in the fly more kit is a huge bummer though...
I currently own the M2P. It's a pretty good drone still, but one big pain is the *ss is the adjustable focus. I can't count how many times I got home and realized that I forgot to adjust the focus and the videos/images came out blurry! Why can't they keep the focus to infinity. For goodness sake, it's a drone, it films landscape. There is no need for manual focus or even adjustable focus. Keep it on infinity or at least AF. I really contemplate selling it and getting a different drone because of it. is the focus on the mavic 3 also adjustable? what about the new Mavic Air 3?
Are you referring to Mavic2 Pro ? what do you mean by "adjustable focus " ? it has AF and AF-C - ( continuous auto focus -the latter, but this can be turned off). AF just does its job well. I had no problems with out of focus shots in the past years on my M2P.
It's not compatible with my RC Pro controller. Deal killer. While some are always looking for the latest and greatest, I'll stick with my A2S and M3C. Both can do more than most people who fly them. An upgrade won't change that fact, well, unless you're about bragging rights. LOL.
Isn't the predecessor the Air 2, and not the 2S? Otherwise it would be called the 3S, right? It seems like everyone has completely forgot about the Air2
@@bobbyd.6186 That's a fair point, and I know they've made the smaller sensor more powerful on the air. 3. But maybe that's why they didn't go with the full 1inch on it because the air 2 didn't have it. So was the 2s just a one-off name?
@@jonred233 Of course they will not put everything in any drone and make it perfect. How would they sell Air 3S, 4, etc. if there is nothing to upgrade?
What’s not perfect about the air 3 the camera if you want to save money just buy the mini Pro or wait for the air 3s to come out, it will have a larger sensor and 5K
Why …. I don’t see an huge issue here. If you don’t like the Air 3. Just buy a Mavic 3 Pro. You compare a drone with 2 small sensors against a Mavic 3 with a huge sensor like the 4/3. And the other 2 cameras on this flagship. And also the price between…. Double the price…..l yes dude for more features 😂 There is more difference than only the aperture.

I wish they do increase the internal storage. But I doubt the sensor size will change and if it does I want it to change for both sensors, with variable aperture on the main camera if I can get it on both that would be amazing too and the frame rate to increase to 4k 120 and I'd buy that I'm a heart beat!!

Makes sense. I'm old school and a zoom lens is a mechanical/optical lens that transitions steplessly from 24mm to 70mm. As you said, people are used to pinching their fingers on their phone to "zoom" digitally between the fixed lenses (which I never do). @@kylemeshna
All the ads and info from DJI say 24mm and 70mm just 1x/ 3x on screen…
So each lens has a digital zoom ? I'm yet to have this confirmed
2x prime lenses yes ?
@@matt79hz yes the 1x(24mm) zooms to 3x digital zoom or you can select the 3x (70mm) camera and then zoom to 9x digital zoom
Although flying experience is better on Mavic 3, image quality is not what I expected.
then compare it with mavic 3 classic which pretty much close in price. what do you think about it?
Is it worth upgrading from a mini 2? Looking for a bigger drone that is better than the mini 2
yes
Are the ND filters really included in the fly more combo? I do not see them anywhere being mentioned in the package content and on the DJI website is seems to be an extra option for USD $99.
That's what I thought too, when I pre-ordered mine I added an ND set and then I heard him say it's included and now I'm second guessing myself 😂
I thought they were included since they sent em to us with our unit and told us we were getting the fly more. Turns out they are an additional $99 😔
@@kylemeshnaI’ve seen multiple videos saying they are suppose to come with the flymore but as you said…when I ordered mines it didn’t say it was included. Im just going to wait for the Freewell Kit is available. Im not a fan of the DJI ND Filters.
@@kylemeshna That is a shame. Very crucial bit to have them. I have bought them, but was hoping they were included.. Great review however.
Good stuff! Keep on flying.
🤘🏻
Killer review bro!
Thanks papi
They do not included the ND filter in the fly more combo
Read the pinned comment 🙂
So, out of curiosity, you mentioned at least twice that NC filters come with the Fly More package. They do not. So what special package did you get that included ND filters?
Yeah I mentioned that in the pinned comment. The unit they sent us included the ND filters and all the other stuff in the fly more so I assumed it was included
@@kylemeshna okay, now i feel better... you had me digging the box out of the recycle bin thinking i threw mine away... lol
I don't think ND filters are included. Just sayin.
Looking at the site... it appears you are correct 😐 They sent them with our unit, and I assumed everything we got was the $1549 FlyMore combo, since we had everything else included.
I'd recommend getting them to help with the aperture issue discussed.
@@kylemeshna
I just ordered the Air 3 this morning. Lol. I checked and double checked. Dobo also stated that the 100watt charging brick was included with fly more kit. I didn't order ND, but did order the charging brick. Now I'll amend my order to include ND's. Thanks for replying my friend. Safe flying.
They included in the RUclips kits lol
Grrrrr.
Ah the UPS waiting game…
@@kylemeshna yep... it's so hot out I can't do much... but I hope to get at least a single flight in today 🙃
DLogM is pretty close and 5k doesn’t really feel necessary to me
Has d- log
@@GregFarless D-Log M... which is close and grades nicely, but not as good a true DLog
@@kylemeshna Brosky didn't get the drone for free and still trying to kissass claiming it has 48mpx sensor xddd
Looks pretty slick for an updated drone! did you find it good for vertical cropping?
Thanks in advance
best review I have seen about air 3
Hmmm, I'll still take the Mavic 3 Classic tbh
Classic is a super solid value, but now I just NEED that 3x in my life.
Great job, Kyle!
180 degree rule ? I was just going to buy the m3pro after sellling my OG mini but raptured my acl beginning of June , now I’m ok and the air 3 came out so will prob buy that one ..but the mini is still in my mind cause it’s so small perfect those few times I’m hiking and I have to look up the laws in Sweden . But probably will go for the air 3
I got the Fly more combo in Brazil (in official DJI store) and it DOES NOT come with NF filters. 😢
does it comply with remote ID don't see it in the compatible list like the air 2s and mini 2 pro
Only way i want to upgrade drone is when it’s a regular drone and fpv drone type combo with nice specs.
Peace question, can Air 3 compatible use with DJI integra as fpv ?
Just chatted with DJI customer support. They said that the Integra is currently not supported by the Air 3, but maybe this could change in the future
@kylemeshna thank you for your info.
God bless you & family.
So VERY disappointed in DJI for not including the needed 60W power charger. No ND filters also make the Fly More Bundle incomplete.
the nd filters and charging bank are sadly not included in the flymore combo. 😔
the Air 3 fly more combo I received had the charging bank but no ND filters..
It is worth to change my mavic 2 pro for the air 3?
do you really need manual aperture when you fly few meters above ground?
So I sold my mavic 3 because I never used the second camera. I keep saying I’m going to get the mavic 3 pro but for the price, this drone is in heavy consideration. I haven’t quite sold myself on not being able to control the aperture. That is KILLING me. lol.
I'm thinking to upgrade to the air 3, but just curious - how's the live time of the battery of the remotecontroller with the screen build in ?
Just get the regular remote
@@w.e.s. i decided to go and get me the mini 4 pro. Still think i'd love the air 3 but because the rule of remote id i decided to let the idea of having the air 3 for now go. I have the mini 4 pro now, but included the remote with build in screen
Is it possible to livestream with this drone?
Is the Air 3 a Mavic? I have never heard of the Air series being Mavics (I am a Noob though) I have come from flying drones for the sake of flying and building them, to beginning to do photography with them. I liked the look of the Mavic 3 series, especially the pro, of course... but the cost was very high, I couldn't justify spending that much on one drone. The obvious answer was not to buy ONE drone (haha)... I was tossing up between the Air 3 and the Mini 4 pro... the Air 3 won... then the Mini 4 pro won... then the Air 3 won again (and so did the Mini 4 pro) so I did the only thing I could possibly do... Imagine that!!)
the filters are NOT included in the fly more kit per dji when i ordered mine.
Does it really come with an ND filter set?
No it does not. Mentioned in pinned comment
Shot slook very sharpened and is this without ND? It's 'choppy' as hell
Lots of shots had to break the 180 rule yes
So far with my dji air 3 sir i m not yet encounter any issue so that ilove my air 3 and thank you so much for another tips and information our air 3💖💖
Are there really nd filters in the fly more combo I’m not seeing any ?
Nope. Checked the pinned comment. I was misinformed

again - small sensor...so why should I upgrade from Mavic 2 pro to this? tripple decker camere is useless - larger sensor is usable
Great review and super footage..... I have to know..... where are those dunes.... I feel like I have drove right past them.......😀😀
We should all accept that adjustable aperture is reserved only for the mavic series,i love my air 3 and my air 2s😊
Thanks for sharing! It would be awesome if Air 3 can support variable aperture.
Agreed!
Does the mavic 3 pro have bigger then a 1 inch sensor?
The main camera is micro4/3, 3x Tele is 1/1.3inch, and the 7x tele is 1/2inch
100% agreed. It’s the one thing that’s keeping me from buying one right now. Might have to save up for the Pro 3. Still debating.
Just wait for Air3s
Your video was helpful. I just ordered mine and it will probably amaze me, sense I am going from a 7 year old Phantom 4 pro plus to this. I will save my money for the RC Pro controller, just for the HDMI port. I love flying with my Skyzone SKY O4X goggles. Which I have been using with my Phantom.
I have the very first Mavic Pro and I’m in dire need of an upgrade. I think this might be our best bet!
Is it actually a 48mp sensor or native 12mp?
They just updated firmware for 48MP
It's a 12mp quad bayer using interpolation to produce 48mp output.
Good point. It's all about the camera.
I just watch a video comparing ma3 and m3Classic and different was not that much.
@@YoelDiamante I just watch videos, they're all same.
I am going to wait for a drone with a 4/3 24mm and 1 inch 70mm 😊😊 currently have a mini 3 pro.
I'd say the Fatal flaw in all modern drones is that they've got big brother inside. In other words they won't fly or obey the pilots commands based on geofencing.
Wait a sec did you just say that the ND filters come with the fly more combo!? 6:48.
I was mistaken 😔 Check the pinned comment
my video quality in 3x zoom is horrible defo bad what is causing it? its pixalated
2:22 It literally is a mirrorless camera…
How’s the lens cap ?
Very good. attaches very firmly, but still easy to pinch and take off.
Filters are not included in the fly more combo due to the price point of this drone.
Yep. Read my pinned comment
Too pricey in Australia - Air 3 fly more kit just on AU$2,400 whereas the Magic 3 Pro (non fly more) is just on AU$3,000 - only AU$600 difference.
I've seen $2k for fly more Air 3, and mavic 3 pro fly more is around 4 or 5k. Big difference.
1600 vs 3k with one batt each. Fair difference.
ND filters are NOT included in the Fly More Combo
Thanks for reading the pinned comment 🙃
It is a 12MP sensor, 48MP is interpolated.
There is no such drone as a Mavic Air 3. And that's a 12MP camera regardless of fancy quad pixel crap. I returned this drone after 3 days.
No man, predecessor means the previous model, not matter how they called it.
@@bobbyd.6186 Well that was my main question, will there be an air 3s.
And the filters are not included with the fly more combo
What’s not perfect about the air 3 the camera if you want to save money just buy the mini Pro or wait for the air 3s to come out, it will have a larger sensor and 5K
Nd filter are not included with fly more
I really want this drone!
👍🏽 nice very good video!
Im yet to see anyone discuss the still image quailty..
Isnt there anyone else at all interested in this ?
Mavic 3 has that Micro 4/3's sensor
2:22 12!!! It’s not true 48
Double the price…..l yes dude for more features 😂
There is more difference than only the aperture.
ND filters with fly more ? Sounds like your BUDDY got a perk!

My bad! I really don’t usually take the time to read. Just watch and maybe listen
I'm saving you from pulling your hair off 6 months later! 😆 Wait for the Dji Air 3 Pro. I said this weeks ago, when the leaks confirmed that the Air 3 will come with a dual 1/1.3 sensor. PS. Dji is dropping the S version.
It's name is just ONLY the DJI Air 3, have no any related to the Old Family the "Mavic" at all~ Pls note~
Great thanks …
The Dji Air 3 Pro will come with a 1" sensor for the main camera, probably a variable aperture and 256 or 512 GB of internal storage. Mark my words 😎😄
I wish they do increase the internal storage. But I doubt the sensor size will change and if it does I want it to change for both sensors, with variable aperture on the main camera if I can get it on both that would be amazing too and the frame rate to increase to 4k 120 and I'd buy that I'm a heart beat!!
There is no such thing as a Mavic Air 3. Its called an Air 3. The 3x lens is a telephoto lens not a zoom. The filters are not in a fly more pack you have to buy them separately.
