- Kris Keefer’s son Aden is growing into his own as an amateur racer. Aden, currently 14 years old, is moving from the C class to the B class so the Keefers wanted to take two bikes Aden has been riding and make several modifications to see the pros and cons of each bike-a 2021 Kawasaki KX250 versus a 2021 Honda CRF250R. At State Fair MX, Aden (with the help of Kris) explains his thoughts on the two bikes.
For reference, Aden is 5'8" and 125 pounds. Kris also explains why he chose Kawasaki and Honda for this comparison.

I could be biased but I felt like he looked more comfortable and faster on the kawi. Could be because he claimed he had to ride it more aggressive but either way I hope he does good on whatever he chooses to ride. Great video

at 6:30 you say your kid has been riding a stock honda for a while.. soooooo of course he will have faster lap times and feel more at home on the honda... just my 2 cents
Have both 21 with just exhaust. They nail cornering characteristics but without ignition/gas/head work the honda isn’t even close power-wise(mid top or high). Still a fun bike to ride.
You do not NEED mods to race dirtbikes in competition, besides that great video!

the kawi 250f is the most unreal bike i’ve ever ridden it’s hard to find a stock bike that works for my 5’6 130 pound ass and that bike literally does everything i want it to effortlessly

Why not the KTM or Husky? Would either of those give you Honda-like cornering with better bottom-to-mid right off the showroom floor? Plus Yami-like mobile app tuneability. Agree he looked smoother and more comfortable on the Honda. Put him on just the Kwai for 4 weeks of serious practice & retest. Best of luck to him & you guys!

I've been partial to kawi since the mid 90s pc days. It is hard to beat the quality of a Honda tho. My 954rr was a dream to ride, bought a 08 crf 450,rode nice... nice bike.
But I'm keeping my 02 kx, maybe I was brainwashed by all of those championships.
And the 450 didn't like 927.

People got that stimulus check and want to get outside. So bikes are selling like crazy. I was recently looking for a nice used bike and had a hard time finding one. It took almost 3 months of searching to find a clean low hour bike for a reasonable price.
Welcome to socialism. I could not find a new YZ250 2-stroke in Michigan about 5 months back, and bought a slightly used 2019 YZ250, (same bike), the last on on a showroom floor in the state. I never thought I would have a hard time finding a new bike at a dealership. Welcome to socialism.

With enough practice, anybody can get fast when there are no bumps on the track. There were more bumps in the 60's with 3" of suspension travel. Just give a road race bike 8" of travel and some knobbies, and it should be competitive today.
I've always wanted to paddle up a liter bike and show up to the drags in pismo.... but riding it from camp to the back might be a little hairy.

Lowered my 2019 YZ250 2-stroke a bit because they are too tall today. You guys go for that outside berm. I will take the flat inside line and push you off the track.

the best mod would be to buy a Yamaha. I currently own a CRF250 and its insanely slow handles weird the clutch basket has exploded twice with 22 hours on the bike and Honda said sorry. Yamaha will be my next bike
Best mod bike is a Honda lmao. Yamaha is a wide ass bike that turns like a boat. It's got good suspension and a strong motor but that's it really. It feels huge and feels heavy too. Keep your Honda and mod it chief it's a better bike. I love Yamaha too so this ain't coming from some biased mofo.

Wondering the same. I am a 2-stroke guy, but usually strong bottom end makes a bike easier to ride for most people. Get the kid a 125 2-stroke. He will like it. :)
