Maybe with a bit of work Kawasaki can get the fuel tank to a even smaller capacity. That way you can unload it, ride once around your truck and go home.

Its enough fuel for a moto heat. Its not a trail bike. They add tanks to DR650s too. Kawasaki puts 6 gallon tanks on KLRs. Kitchen table engineers fail to realize this.

A tip for who ever wins this bike is that you should put the air filter screw in the filter and filter cage before putting the assembly in the bike. That make it at least a little easier to do a filter change.

Kyle, just want to say I love your videos. Great content about the segment of riding that I love. I'm a long time viewer, and it just occurred to me what makes them so great IMO. You incorporate so many perspectives. I see lots of other videos, which I also appreciate for one reason or another, that primarily rely on a rider POV. I can appreciate a rider POV here and there, but not 90% of the video. It just doesn't translate to me. It's like explaining a movie to someone who hasn't seen it yet. The experience of actually riding vs. rider POV footage is simply too vast. I feel like rider POV is for THAT rider. I love your drone follow footage, the fly by's, etc... All of these different perspectives tell such a rich story of the bike/thing that you're covering. And, it gives viewers a glimpse into other aspects of the ride such as technique, gear, terrain, etc... Thanks for the great content!

That "hook hanging off the back of a fighter jet" is called a tailhook (big surprise, right?). I have one in my garage, pulled off an A-6E Intruder after my last trap on the USS Theodore Roosevelt back in '94. It has a strong sentimental value, but I'm willing to part with it, in exchange for the KX...

I agree with your assessment on that bike. Last time I rode one, it was a new 2017 and I did like the power delivery on it. Like you said quick acceleration for a 4 stroke motor. So I liked it. I think it’s important to be able to buy whatever accessory you want. You should have a conversation with the different vendors to see why they don’t make a lot for this bike. Very good review

Wow, Im surprised how many people don't understand that ALL xc bikes are actually mx track bikes slightly modified. As far as fails go, I have never owned a bike that didn't need some mods or improvement. I ride and race KTM, BETA, and now 22 kx250x. By far my favorite because of power delivery, tracking, and of course amazing suspension right out of the box. Yes the kickstand sticks out(easy fix) and what about only having a 5 speed transmission?
Not a deal breaker as there are more advantages than disadvantages for revving this motor...so 70 mph in a sand wash isn't fast enough for ya? LOL...So many of you weekend warriors are missing out on an amazing machine which will greatly improve your riding skills and make you feel like a superstar on this bike. Yes the tank is smaller than most but 250 bucks fixes that. How many thousands have you spent on your KTM suspension to make it work? Airbox design? Really? If you can't figure out how to shove a piece of foam into a plastic cage, you have become too weak to ride the bike(Man card revoked)... That said, I agree with Kyle pointing out issues and love his reviews. All Im saying is we miss out on amazing machines based on common beliefs from internet trends. This bike is an amazing machine that should not be overlooked especially for the price compared to the others...

The Japanese manufacturers are notorious for hitting well on some things but seemingly ignoring what us consumers view as the easiest improvements. Stubborn? Hmm, maybe so?. Could be why European manufacturers are continually pulling away with consumer support through sales. Having said that I own 2 Hondas, one Kawasaki, and one KTM. With all the dirt bikes they need to come with removable spark arrestors, period. But maybe they are just in cahoots with the aftermarket exhaust manufacturers since the crazy expensive exhaust systems offer so little in performance improvement for the cost investment involved. Love your videos Kyle. Keep them coming.

Dawg in my opinion, that's literally the best bike to start off with, especially for your size. Power numbers really don't matter if you can't use the power, your way better off getting used to something you can control easy. And you'll still have a shit ton of fun on that thing. You can always get something with more power in the future. I started off with a 2021 yz250f, and I love the hell out of it but even I can admit it would've been better to start on something a little smaller just to get technique down. Unless your hill climb racing, that bike should be just fine. Have a good one g 🤙

Got the Klx230r about a month ago... 5 hours on it now. I'm a new rider also, 5'10. Thought the seat was too high initially but after riding the suspension has a bit more sag. Also I'm simply learning how to handle the seat height with technique so I'm not going to lower it.
An easy bike to maintain. Air filter is simple to get to.
Also ride an xt250... with its weight, soft suspension and low seat height I call it the pig... compared to the Klx230r.

It looks to me the subframe shape is the issue, the bottom leg would need to be modified to open access, then the airbox would need to be heated and pushed down, which would then be in danger of rubbing from the tyre. It is doable but you would need the skills and tools, or cash, to my way of thinking you would be better off with something blue, easy filter change, more fuel, free power app, an unobtrusive stand and a true offroad gearbox. Softer springs would be a lot cheaper than modifications, and blue looks good, to my mind it's a no brainer.

I can’t help but point out that the XC models are very similar to the MX models. For my riding style I have found that modern MX bikes make a great platform for fast paced woods/xc riding with little to no modifications. It’s not till I get into the real technical trails that I prefer to have a purpose built enduro bike. I say this because I see that Kyle has a 2022 KTM 250 SX-F right now. I’d be interested to see a review of that bike for trail use. The KTM 350 SX-F was one of my favorite XC bikes….

Solid review Kyle, thanks. That air box does suck, small tank = shorter range, and too loud for multi use trails. Though it looks like a good southwest desert bike if you could get a 2.6 - 3.0 + gallon after market off road tank. Some of our rides can go north of 75 + miles. Oh yeah, need the 6 speed for transfer sections and washes.

I’m 6’4” and 300 pounds. Love Kawi. It’s been a while and I’m looking to get back on. Does this 250 have enough power and suspension for Colorado trail rides?

I just went and looked at one, brand new, but I'm really short and I'm kinda new to riding dirt bikes. I want it very much but I'm barely able to touch the ground. Is this too much bike for me, or could I grow into it? I like riding trails and the only thing that worries me is the seat hight. 8300 bucks with a 500 dollar rebate... I value your opinion so what would you say? Should I look at something else, or pull the trigger on this one

Ooh yeah Kawi green! Narrow! As in; "I narrowly made it back to the truck with that dinky tank". Skinny like a blade... is the shape of fingers you need to change the air filter. 5-sp close ratio on a all-around trail bike? $8500? No thanks. Makes me love my unstoppable KDX's even more.

Isn't this bike's engine weak for a motocross circuit?

That air box lol. I am really considering this kx for my next single track bike. I been riding a ktm 300xc,and a kx 250f for mx. I love my kx when I ride single track but it is set for me so it's a little harsh at times in the woods. Did the o ring chain rob any power from the bike? When I put one on my 250f I noticed it a good bit.

I modified my green one with a 3 way switch. 3 map settings, one module. I found them to be just wire jumpers, very simple design.

I had a bike with a K&N and a foam sock on it. You could get some life out of it leaving sock on 'til dirty or wet, or leave it off for performance.

I bought one of these blown up as a flip bike, and the airbox is infuriating. The inlet was full of sand from the previous owner, and aside from poor maintenance, i can see why. The filter fits like crap compared to the current Austrian bikes and you can't get it in/out without rubbing it all over the place and likely dropping sand inside. Terrible.
