Given both nations, or at least the Republic are buddies now, it's understandable they share tech. The Hiigarans also have access to a lot of Progenitor tech, whose armor plating is quite angular.
Actually, the new Hiigaran mothership feels like a straight ripoff of that Supremacy megaship from the new Star Wars movie series; it looks cool, for sure, but hardly in line with the vertically-oriented mothership design of the Kushans/Hiigarans.
@@technopriest6708 True. Now, it does all ships in the fleet. Which is really great to see. I really like that the support frigate looks like a Kuun Lan build.
The designs did grew on me especially the capital ships by the end of the game. They really updated alot of designs in lore based on the marriage of progenitor, taiidan, and higaaran/kushan tech. Hope the game adds more story content expansions which was sorely missed in Relics' Homeworld.
I like the slick design of the vessels. Look more technologicaly advanced which makes sense. However all the frigates kinda look the same tbh. In HW 2 Ion frigates had a big ass cannon in the front, Torpedo frigates had big ass silos on the front. In HW 1 assault frigated were packed with turning cannons creating a cool 360 effective fire, support frigates had a docking space for smaller ships and docking animations. You could tell which is which from any distance. They were all distinct and cool in their own way. Their design was top tier sci fi imagination.
Essentially all frigates irl look the same anyways. But atleast the roles are distinct and effective for homeworld 3 fleet doctrines. Though I miss the ion frigate spam against capitals since in HW3 it was essentially nerfed due to its range. What is missing though is more destroyer variety since all the capitals have multirole capabilities when before there was a missile and gun variant of destroyers.
Subsystem was controversial back in HW2, so yes and no. With this faster gameplay subsystem would be hard to fit also. And I miss the slower gameplay, so I guess yes xD
The loss of evasive tactic and attack-move order is even worse, but reducing tactical depth with subsystem removal can't be a good thing either. Then there are those useless Battlecruisers, which people can hardly build in multi before the match ends... So you technically don't need subsystem targeting anyway... Unless for stopping the enemy flagship from parking on top of you.
People complaining about samey design forget that HW1 recon/interceptor, light/heavy/multigun corvette, ion/assault/drone frigate were just as hard to tell apart at first
Probably trying to keep strikecraft relevant, if everything carried anti-fighter guns they would only really be useful if everyone agreed to keep the big bois out of the fight.
After playing the game I miss the intimidation of a cruiser.. the need to make individual resource collectors.. and most of all the sound of the beam/ion weapons. When those went off you were like oo you know that hurt. That's all gone now.
Corvettes are essentially anti-frigate ships. There were so many corvettes in the first game that this role was carried over to the frigate line (like the suppressor and assault frigates). Remember there were only 3 frigates in HW 2. Having only one corvette is not a lost if considering the fleet composition in 3.
I really dislike the new boring shapes of the Hiigaran Navy. They all lack character and charm. The ships in Homeworld 1 and 2 all had their distinct form a design language that gave them a unique character and silhouette on the battlefield. Now everything looks like a boring Tofu Block. Also, some of the turret placement on ships like the Battlecruiser is atrocious! Why would you block the firing arc of your turret with unnecessary structures next to it?
Tbh a lot of the designs are downgrades in terms of functionality from HW2. A lot of them have the little bridge that blocks turret arcs (which the Hiigarans already solved in HW2 with horizontal bridges) The Battlecruiser has no point defence? The Destroyer is a broadsider...but the main turret is blocked by the missile launchers. Why aren't there anymore corvettes other than the Railgun corvette? Because it's kinda obvious that they fill a vital anti strike craft role in battle
All this is explained by the fact that the developers concentrated more on the design of maps, megaliths and, in principle, on the graphics themselves, which is why they made such a meager and fast pumping of ships, all hope remains in MODs, to be honest, the game disappointed me.
The Support Frigates of HW1 have been clearly built using common frigate sections, despite their non-combat roles. The HW3 one is nothing like the rest of the frigates. Production facilities on board the Mothership and Carriers are supposed to be foundries. It doesn't show. The Suppression Frigate is a disaster. Hiigaran Navy already had a Flak Frigate with deadly anti-strike craft turrets and spherical coverage in HW2. What is this current "thing" supposed to do, when flanked by another enemy squadron? No other corvettes except for a "railgun" one? What's the point of underlining its weapon as a railgun, if every fighter in HW1 was already equipped with a mass driver? The retcon downgrade doesn't make sense. Aaaand a Battlecruiser unable to hit a single target with both of its ion cannons. Plenty of failed designs.
@@riesstiu2khunning I completely agree with you, in general the design and engineering of the corleys in HW3 looks like they were made in a hurry and they were something secondary against the backdrop of the notorious megaliths, on which the developers apparently concentrated 80% of the development time and left 20% for the production of 3D models of ships and their work looks VERY careless.
@@riesstiu2khunning not to mention that the destroyer has had its ion cannon removed for a missile launcher as well as the pulsar weapon system that was superior to rail guns by far.
So trash that they didnt even put in any work to design the ships, like they are awful and the carrier looks like a oversized interceptor from HW2 and the new interceptor is so badly designed because it just looks like a bigger scout with big guns in the front 🤢
Man, these designs are... absolutely UGLY: every ship seems to have the same amount of engine exhaust ports, are centered and ridiculously *SMALL* almost like they are meant to NOT MATTER (why bother putting them, then?). The torpedo frigate looks like a gunship with missile pods. The ion cannon frigate looks HW1-era that just never managed to miniaturize or refine the system (which we know from Cataclysm that the Somtaaw did; not to mention the Battlecruiser and Heavy Cruisers fielding smaller, more powerful versions of the weapon). Not just the Republic. They've been even sharing worlds for two centuries.

Only one corvette? The fuck?
Man it's such a really beautiful looking game, it's a shame the other parts of it dampen the experience.
Very sad to see that Support frigates have lost their little hangar space to accomodate fighters :(
Isn’t that on the underside of the craft?
I was wondering what they were for!

Who knew you could take the TNG phaser and turn it into a workable destroyer...😅🙄
Any campaign specific super-ships like HW2?
Why bother with turrets though?
The platforms seem like a better option than the turrets ngl
Why they decimated the corvette class?
Besides I´m not a fan of frigates, destroyers and battlecruisers looking that similar.
