Homeworld Deserts of Kharak - Soban Faction - Vehicle Showcase

- Back in 1999 when other kids were making Lego Star Wars models, I was busy making my own Lego Homeworld ships. 22 years later I am still very much in love with some of the designs. In hot anticipation for Homeworld 3, I thought I might share a glimpse into the art style & attack animations of Homeworld's OG faction ships for those unfamiliar with the series. I will do videos for the Hiigaran, Vagyr, Taidan & Kushan as well as Deserts of Kharak vehicles.

This game franchise needs a tv series. Imagine these kinds of sountracks blasting out while much loved characters battle it out for survival in the hash expanse of the desert or space.
Imagine how BAD they would make the TV show though.

altough the smooth-ness of the gaalsien will always win me over, the soban are the 2nd place on my tier list
I think for me it's a combination of vehicles from each faction. For carriers though Khaaneph is my #1 and Soban my #2.
Nothing but love for this stunning series.
The design of units is amasing. It is futuristic but realistic. Also the physics of units are great

The railguns firing at 3:30 remind me of the sound files for certain units in ground control 2. Another game I wish got some love and a sequel.
I actually just found and bought that again on Steam. Unfortunately it does not work well with modern monitors so everything’s a blurry mess. All about some GC2 jaegers though.

Love the series and enjoyed looking upon the models ones again!
I like that thier tech looks slightly better and more streamline than the other northern Kith. It fits with thier superiority complex that they would horde the best tech for themselves.
The Siidim would be the ones with the superiority complex. The Soban from what I've heard is responsible for most of the Coalition's armed forces, especially with their military academies. Much of the equipment here seems to be after the story.

What an amazing work!
The thing I do not quite fathom is just how large these vehicles are compared to the pilots, not just in this game but the whole Homeworld franchise. Imagine firing a gatling gun that large or piloting a vehicle that's the size of a modern dump truck.
For real. Some of the end cutscenes in the OG Homeworld showing crowds of people next to a Taiidan corvette are pretty impressive.
Pls make more, love this game my favourite so far from homeworld. Need to try the space one later :)
The plot, music and aesthetics are fantastic in my humble opinion & definitely worth a try.
Would be amazing if HW3 somehow incorporated land battles..

Is Soban essentially the same kinds of u nits as Coalition?
Soban & Coalition share some of the same chassis but have a few unique variations. Gaalsiean & Khaaneph are similar as well.
Soban is the mercenary force the Coalition employs when shit hits the fan.
It's the most militarized kyth apart from Gaalsiean perhabs but unlike the Gaalsiean they are not exiled from the northern cities wich is why they use the same chasis as the rest of the coalition with a few of their own modifications.
what kind of game?
Why does Soban have a Assault Cruiser thats clearly of gaalsien technology? Is that a stolen tech or something?
If I recall correctly, the Soban were more like nomadic mercenaries. Considering that the end of the game and prequal to homeworld is that the planet eventually unites for a common goal, it wouldn’t be that unimaginable that various factions had been trading or working together on certain technologies over the years.
What is the diference soban with Coalition?
Railguns. A lot of them.
Instead of assault cannons on their carrier, they get Railguns instead.
Their railguns are also longer ranged and do more damage.
In line with this, their support powers such as logistics units are armed with EMPs that slow down or stop enemy units to make them easy pickings for their railguns. They also have abilities that reduce the enemies weapon range to force them to fight you in front, which is bad news for your artillery and railguns as that puts them in a rather vulnerable position where a Soban can eat it up.
If Coalition is about Tanking shots with their defensive support powers such as smoke screens and repairs. Soban is about aggression. Soban is about shoving your carrier and railguns in your enemies face. While preventing them from getting out. Soban has a very aggressive carrier build that does less repairs than the coalition but makes up for it through sheer firepower. Why need repairs if your enemy can't get to your carrier in the first place? It even gets to the point where it beats Gaalsien in it's aggression, a faction designed to harass you and park their mini carriers in your resources so they can keep pumping out units to outnumber and outflank yours. That tactic doesn't work against Soban as what they see is free scrap to recycle. Thanks for the free meal you idiot.

@@nt249-hoa-ong9 Gameplay-wise: Khaneeph is Gaalsien... Turned up to 11. If Gaalsien lost all semblance of self preservation. Suicide drones, and suicide vehicles everywhere. They don't have a proper airforce like all 3 factions before them, heck their "carriers" cannot even be called carriers for their sorry excuse of a flight deck, or the lack thereof. Well, what's the use of a flight deck if you expect your planes to commit Sudoku on the enemy?
Lorewise, Khaneeph is the scariest thing to the Gaalsien. For the Coalition, it's Tuesday. Khaneeph means godless, they don't believe in gods, and live like barbarians, stealing ships, attacking cities, anyone who is useful to them is converted, the rest eaten, that's right, they cannibalize useless people, a strong child is taken and raised to become a Khaneeph, but a weak/useless child is dinner. Gaalsien believes the Coalition can be "saved" but for Khaneeph, they can only be put down like a wild animal, if they can be put down that is. A Gaalsien, even the most devout, could not wrap their head around a being that doesn't believe in a god, any god at all. And would not dare believe that Sajuuk could even smite them. For the Coalition, specially the Soban, they are an annoyance. A brilliant annoyance, but an annoyance nevertheless. Sure regularly their raids failed but occasionally they can get even the absolute master of warfare: Soban, impressed with their tactics.
