- 1941 Greyhound "Silverside" Bus.
One of the great American Icons of the 20th Century along with Jeeps and Coca Cola. Introduced at the 1939 New York World’s Fair as the “Silverside”, it goes down in history as the most popular and best loved bus of all time.
There are only 4 or 5 known Silversides restored to this condition. There were 500 built in 1940 and 1941 by Yellow Coach. This is the only prewar Yellow Coach on the road today. In 1947-48 GM built 2,000 very similar Silversides. When both models were retired, they all had 2-3 million miles on them and worn out. This took 4 years and several thousand hours to bring it to its present condition.
Incredible attention when its viewable. Possible uses as a corporate symbol, food service-restaurant attraction, movies, motor home or like the Ford Tri-motor Aeroplane used for display and operable.
$150,000

Beautiful,and music fitting the presentation.👌
I love the "Made in USA" steel, aluminum, leather, etc. parts instead of a bunch of Chinese plastic parts. It's a real beauty. Thanks for sharing.
I get buses, I get semis, I get limos, but I just don't get lifted pickups. The guys are compensating for small members. I mean lifted pickups can't outpull semis or trains or tractors but America remains with a unique and annoying phenomenon with the lifted pickup small member syndrome. Buses rock.
My dad drove one of these back in the late 60s for the Spectacle City Mariners Drum & Bugle Corps. Had the pleasure of many ride alongs. The smell of diesel in the morning!!!!
My dad drove for Greyhound from the 50's thru to the 80's. He always
loved this model. Thnx for the
video !!!!
Wwwooo so good great remenber the old time l loved bus.
That is an amazing bus. Pristine frozen in time. Absolutely stunning. Your so lucky to have such a preserved piece of American history
That's the finest Silversides I think I've ever seen. Almost makes me want to give up my 4106.
Great Restoration!!!!!
Magnificent bus!
That puts me back to union station in Edmonton Alberta 1963 . I was a young gaffer , me mum would drop me off and I would take in the experience , these buses are art.
That HAS to be one of THE nicest silversides out there! Dang it’s beautiful!
I love this bus; very beatiful. Congratulations!!!!
WoW! I am a Greyhound driver now. This is absolutely gorgeous!! Thank You for sharing!
I remember in the 60s and the 70s riding with my dad, a greyhound driver, from NYC to Boston or Albany and back to NYC then the train ride home to Levittown, Pa. Special times with father and son. Go Greyhound!!!
Hermoso autobús. Lástima que ya no operan de forma regular, solo como exhibición o por dueños particulares que los han rehabilitado. Gracias!
We are restoring ours now....lot's of work and money...but we love it....
Beautiful!!! I have a 1990 Mercedes O303 coach motorhome. Comfy, powerful and reliable but certainly doesn't have an ounce of character or styling that this bus has.
Absolutely love it. The period correct license plate sets it off too!
I really want to turn one of these old busses into a motor home on the interior but keep this style exterior so I could take it on tours around the country and let people enjoy it
Even though it doesn't have a passenger configuration this bus is incredible. Damn!
Cheers!
i love the round look, like mercedes benz cars too we had aero dynamics back then too
That's a beauty.
Beautiful. Back in the day, riding one in the summer would've been hot as the dickens, but put a modern day
A/C in the roof, and it's perfect!
Wow! What a beautiful machine!!!
love the sound of that engine!!!
Don't see many of them left around any more 😮
No seats, no sale! Nice bus!
Awesome! Love these old buses!
I rode on those buses. What a fine specimen! Love the Detroit 6-71 2-stroke Diesel. They had a special, sweet roar.
This bus sold at Mecum Auto Auction in August of 2018 for $66,000. She sure is beautiful!
Luv dem Detroits....
Beautiful
What a beauty ..
Um verdadeiro glamour. Simplesmente o melhor. Parabéns.
Cool video and Thumbs Up like.
To think, The USA was producing these while we were in the grip of WWII!!
Real nice....
Beautiful!
WOW That was nice 👍
Love it 👍
I would have thought that the GM "Old Look" transit bus would be equally iconic. After all, if it was good enough for Ralph Kramden....
that thing is beautiful!
Chulada de autobús 🤩👌.
It`s a work of art.

Wow, this is awesome! Where did you find this bus?
When I saw the asking price at the end, all I could think of was Ralphie in A Christmas Story.
“A crummy commercial?! Son of a bitch.” 😂
Nice bus tho.
there is another prewar silversides bus owned by silversides sage he has a youtube channel. Originally these busses all had the bias ply tires on split rims as now been replaced by tubeless tires. the engine is a 6-71 2 stroke Detroit Diesel. most Silversides still around are the post war models still on the road as Rvs. Bus Grease Monkey has one a 1947 silversides converted to an RV he is a travelling vintage bus mechanic.
In the 1970s my family had a 42 silverside in Parkersburg, WV. We had a family puppet ministry and conducted meeting in churches through the east coast. Bought it from the Victory Boys Quartet and after using it for ten years sold it to the pathway Quartet in Ohio.
Because we had five children traveling with us it worked great as a home away and saved the churches money on having to house and feed our large family.
Perhaps it was our old unit. Don't have the paper work any longer but know it was a Yellow chassis, a Detroit engine, and was painted green. Had four bunas in center, master bedroom and bathroom on curb side. DICK CAGNO
I have watched this 3 times. I love the bus and the details. I see a bench seat in the far back but I cant make out the middle of the bus interior. There is shiny wood grain ... is that floor?. Are there seats there?
Most people do not know that the 3701 and -15 are the basis for the 4104...minus the frame. The 4101-3 was based on the transit bus chassis and body from 1940.
Relíquias. Restauradas
Parece um Detroit 6 -53. Tô errado???? Lindooooooooo!!!!!!
next time take the bus and leave the driving to us
Where are the seats? Is it 3- or 4-speed? I always wondered about the column mounted shifters but never saw one in action.
G. Bridgman , they had a 4spd on the column ..... Back in the late '60s I went to summer camp in northern Calif. I was able to sit in the first row and get a first hand show of the drivers skills shifting and negociating the winding curves of hwy 101 and 128 to camp Novarro .....
@@antoniobarton2682 I did that when I was in the 7th and 8th grades. I'd sit as far up front as possible to watch the driver work the bus. We had mid 50s internationals with 5-speed non-synchromesh transmissions that took skill to operate. It was fascinating. Thanks for the information.
У нас были похожие в 1953 , но этот просто шикарный .
Greyhound Detroit powered .
the best
Wow! I have a '53 4104 but this is cooler...
Que hermoso
Did you see that guy jump off the back of the bus? Or was I seeing things?

ISTO. SIM. QUE. ERAM. AS. JARDINEIRAS. CORRETO
Where's the seats? "Restored" bus, but it's just a shell.
That's what I'am saying. I do believe the original engine was a Detroit 4 cylinder?. That engine was a Detroit 671, correct me if iam wrong.
@@thevacuumtubejunky9774 It's a 4-71 Detroit
@@4321grp : I knew it..lol.
Thanks for the reply!
It has the 6 71. The only engine these buses ever came with.
