    Honestly most people who buy jeeps, they take off the doors and drive it around town... so safety is not #1 on their list. Haha.

      Not true taking the doors off is safe, think about this.... you’re about to hit a 18 wheeler head on and there’s no avoiding it, you can easily jump out and roll, doors are very hard to open with wind, try opening you’re doors going 70 it’s really hard 😏

    The people that buy jeeps don't really care if it safe. Why should they though? You buy a jeep because it is cool. You can take the doors off!

    My childhood friend was in a jeep that rear ended a FedEx truck, didn't even look to be that bad an accident as the jeep was still driveable but his head hit the side pillar and now he has the mental capacity of a child. He was an amazing athlete and the girls loved him, so sad to see him now. His sister has done allot of research on jeeps and she tells us they are just too ridgid and do not crumple the way most modern cars do so the forces back on the driver are significantly higher then they should be for a modern vehicle

      The thing no one understands when they buy a Jeep because it’s cool is they’re not made with safety in mind they’re made for off-roading. You want the body to be rigid and not give when your sliding into trees or sliding off rocks or having slow rollovers. Off-roading you’re not gonna be at any sort of real speed so the concern isn’t on the vehicle occupants it’s making sure you don’t absolutely total your vehicle when you misjudge a rock or whatever.

      When I was younger I was t-boned in a Jeep Wrangler and my head hit the B pillar and Jeeps don’t have soft surfaces inside. I had lost all short term memory for weeks. I now own a 2020 Subaru Forester for its safety rating. I’m old enough now to not take unnecessary risks

    Soccer mom's need to stop buying jeeps. They aren't designed to be safe, they are designed to take a beating off-road. Simple as that. You don't buy a wrangler thinking about safety.

      Jeep has been around longer than both Chrysler and fiat. Actually the only 2 companies that were around back then were GMC and the Ford motor company. The dodge brothers were still working for Ford back than. Chrysler ruined jeep. Jeep did not ruin Chrysler.

      Yeah its a bit odd! The basic structure is really strong as expected from any high quality safe vehicle. Probably the rating has to do with chassis force absorption. I'm waiting for the US rating.

      There are no rear curtain airbags, not much of a crumple zone in the front, and the body of the car isn’t absorbing the damage. Therefore, there is more chance of serious injury for the occupants inside the vehicle.

    I see - the jeep keeps its shape almost perfectly, transferring all the crash energy into the squishy people inside.
    That was considered a safety feature in the 1950's or 40's I believe. Until people realized that crumple zones make a car look - well, crumpled, but the people inside don't squish.

    Downloaded and read the entire report. This score was largely due to not have electronic braking assist, not being able to fit some car seats, and the amount of damage a pedestrian or bicyclist would take when struck by the Jeep. I'm not kidding. I get it, safety first, but if the Wrangler was tested with the brake assist and other features that are available, it would have been rated above 3 stars. As far as the rest, you are supposed to fit your car seat to the vehicle, not the other way around... and if you are routinely running over pedestrians there's a bigger problem.

    I was in an accident recently in my 2019 JL sport S. Someone broke to hard and we were both going 50 mph. The Jeep saved my life and it is still repairable so in my book it’s safe enough.

    I bought my Rubicon for mostly off-roading and the ability to flat tow it behind my motorhome. It is not the most comfortable vehicle I ever owned, but I can drive it to the hills and climb rocks the size of a car, go through rivers and streams. Then I hop on the highway and go home. I'll deal with the one star. Do that with your 4 star cars.

    I will say this about a jeep wrangler. I was rear ended by a huge dodge ram truck at an intersection. I was sitting still and the truck was doing probably 25mph when it hit me. I was totally fine and it felt like a minor accident. But when I got out I was shocked the dodge was crumoled up and the driver hurt. The front bumper of the truck was pushed in to the motor. The hood was bent in half. Plastic, metal glass laying on the ground. My tire pushed in the rear door in a little bit. Say what ya want about vehicles crumpling up to keep the passenger safe but sometimes it works out better to be in a roll cage.

      The reason why is that cars are designed to crumple and absorb energy from an accident. If the car is rigid and doesn't take that force away, it goes straight to the passengers. Cars are supposed to protect you for forces from an accident to keep you for as many injuries as possible. Roll cages are nice but you don't need a roll cage if your dead after going 50 into the back of a car.

      @@thomasrossi31 It is all about how linear the momentum can be dissipated, if that isn't linear enough, in this case there seem to be severe spikes of force, there is a higher risk of mainly brain and neck injuries. You can compare it to the difference of punching a wall vs punching a pillow. The kinetic energy is the same, the peak forces and thus the potential injuries are very different.

      If you want something abrupt, try crashing a Fiat 500 head on into a Jeep. Because of it's weight, the Jeep is actually very safe in most driving situations.

      Yep. They rate on a 4 star evaluation. Poor, marginal, good, and excellent. Their rating is good overall with a marginal side impact because of the lack of head protection. Not this "1 star" crap.

      Amar K one star because there is a lack of a decent crumple zone so all the force of the energy is transferred in to the compartment. Just read the full report and you’d understand why it did so poorly. It’s redesigned and it’s 2018 and you can’t even get this vehicle with side curtain airbags or even a side rear airbag.

    I saw a crash rollover of a Jeep where both parents died and a kid, crash should have been survivable, but the top caved in like an aluminum can. Absolutely no engineering has gone into making the structure a lot more safe which they could easily do. Their front bumpers are like 8" short in each direction making the tire be the primary crush zone. Just horrible.

      It’s not actually bad at all if you read why it got that score. It only got 1 star because it doesn’t have any driver assistance system such as lane jeep assist and automatic braking. Jeep wanted to include these but the sensors have to be fitted to the windshield which on the wrangler folds down making it impossible to add these features. And as most Jeep Wrangler owners would rather have a fold down windshield instead of these technologies that’s what jeep went with.

    On the concrete wall test, car performed the rubbish. It barely crumpled. The plastic front bit was the only real crumple zone.

    So what’s issue? Airbags deployed, structure survived as did occupants. If anything Jeep is one tough vehicle, and so it should be. Want 5 star car...buy pissy fwd shopping centre speed hump jumper.

      Look I don't like the rating either, and I don't really care cause I like my Jeep either way. But that jeep did not take any of the blow, alot of the occupants would have suffered horrible neck injuries. At one point the child dummies head smashed into the metal bar. It is a somewhat fair evaluation, but I don't think it's one star.

      You can't tell the forces exerted on a dummy just by watching this video. They have instrumentation in the dummies to see when safe limits are exceded. I think they know what they're doing.

    2019 Wrangler got a 3 star rollover rating in US , the last frontal crash test in US was in 2017 and scored good .
    The European test scores more for crash avoidance , so the Wrangler had a low score .

    Heck if using those rubber bumpers etc of course it looks bad .
    Put some bull gaurds front back and side steps all steal etc . You wont get a scratch. Trust me it works.

    The sad thing is that many teens including myself want a Jeep Wrangler and if they’re not even safe, what’s the point in getting one?Teens of all groups of people are the ones that get injured or die in car wrecks the most and the fact that we all thought this car was military grade and shit, is upsetting.

    It’s a solid framed vehicle so it won’t crumple too much and there’s no side curtain airbags in the rear because the top, doors, and roll bars are removable so it would be hard to get something back there. Best bet would be to add something to the outside of the seat or headrest that may go out the side but even that would be difficult.

    Like motorcycles and convertibles, driving a Jeep Wrangler is a calculated risk. I owned a 2013 Jeep Wrangler, and my answer to everyone who asked me "How do you like it?", was always "What the Wrangler is built to do, it does extremely well.". It was never built for a 5 star crash rating, but everyone should already know that.

    Look at the report and the Jeeps gets dinged for not having an automatic braking system and a couple of other automatic safety features (2019 has these features now). So it’s not necessarily the crash test in particular that gives it the low rating. I didn’t get my Jeep for all the cool wiz bang technology, so this test score did not dissuade me from buying one...

    The takeaway here is that extra rigidity may seem worth its weight in gold in an accident, but in reality not as much energy is being absorbed by the crumple zone, leading to much greater potential for injury in many accident scenarios.

    I'm not a jeep fanboy, but I don't see a failure. I would consider any test where the occupants would be alive with minimal injury. From the looks of things, a real life scenario occupants would be just fine.

    Jeep cab compartment held up great compared to other vehicles. Additionally, the front wheel on the offset front impact did not collapse the front driver or passenger leg area. The front and side air bags seemed extremely effective to reduce the shock to the front passengers. Too bad they could not report pressure on the dummies and provide data that support the rating. I am guessing the rating agency doesn't approve that jeep doesn't incorporate more safety features such as rear air bags and automatic sensors to stop the vehicle and prevent a crash. How much weight did they give to metrics such as the rating agency did not like the steel bumper option to prevent injury to pedestrian. Too bad these agencies don't provide more information on metrics vs. providing a star rating.

    In every motor vehicle collision, there are 3 "crashes" going on: 1-The vehicle vs some type of obstacle. 2-The vehicle occupants vs the vehicle they're in. (You vs the air bags, the dash, steering wheel, door pillar, or your seat belt) and 3-Your insides vs your outsides. (Your internal organs vs your skeletal structure. The more you have #1 absorb, the less you get for #2 and #3. The more you have of #2, the less you had of #1 and the more of #3 you will get. The more #3 you have, the more likely you will be in a coffin and not a wheelchair 3 days later. Cars should crumple up to keep the occupants safe, not look like they sustained no damage after a crash. *drops mic*

    i think the scariest part about this test is the bare metal reardoors with no passenger airbag and that the car dosent crumble on a front collosion, makin the passengers absorb all that energy.

    Everyone's saying don't buy it, it's not safe, or I'll never buy a jeep now. I only buy jeeps now, me and my wife were sitting on a highway in our wrangler at a stop light, a semi didn't see the red light. He slammed on him brake but still coming in at about 35 rear ended us throwing us into the intersection doing a complete 360. I was able to drive the jeep to the side of the road thinking that the back of the jeep was completely smashed in. To my surprise we did more damage to the semi than the jeep. My dad was able to drive it to the auto body place. I know that these vehicles are safe and that's why I love my jeeps. If you don't want one that's your choice but in my opinion they are very worth it.

    Say all you want, I work in the collision repair world and they SURVIVE. They hold up. They repair well. Very difficult to total them, and when they do. the owners retain them. I have been waiting for years to get a totaled Rubicon. And I will be waiting many more years I am sure. I own and LOVE my JKU sport and will retain it if the worst happen to it.

      @@4WDriver - When hitting a stationary object that can be true. When 2 vehicles collide. Other forces are at work. When the other vehicle crumples. The energy is dissipated that way. When vehicles deflect the others. The energy is lost by sliding tires.
      The crash tests that are popular today. Only show part of what happens in the real world. Like when hitting a bridge pillar or wall. What happens when hitting a guard rail or smaller car, is not shown anymore.

    Actually the Jeep Wrangler has the best accident avoidance feature of any new car on the market.
    The secret is they stay in the mechanic shop broke down so much there's little chance of being in a major collision.

    Looks like driver and front passenger would be fine. Rear passengers could use airbags. But other than that it looks like a strong pass. Do not give a chyte if your head hits a bumper and pedestrian dies as that is not purpose of the damn thing.
    My real problem with a jeep wrangler is that a properly optioned one is 50k.. For an Italian Chrysler product. LOL

    Had three jeeps, stock I never forgot how bad a wreck would be. I armored them all up side steps, heavy as bumpers, winches, 35-37s, roll cages before I even put my kids in. If you buy and build a bad ass take they will be ok stock no thanks,

    To the people saying it doesn’t look bad. That’s the bad part. Cars are supposed to crumple to provide a greater time during deceleration.
    Otherwise you get countercoup injury and traumatic dissection of the aortic arch due to immediate deceleration injury

      30k - what does it mean, EXACTLY?
      It is necessary to compare the 30k number to something - like the number of bikers, the number of bikes etc. Preferably to the amount of people-miles driven. Then the comparison makes sense.

    I don’t buy it, my son took my wrangler on a trip to San Diego, CA and fell asleep at the wheel, he veered off the road into a dirt field, he woke up regained control but before he could stop, the front tire hit a boulder going 65 mph causing the car to snap to the right suddenly which then caused him to roll over 3 or 4 times and ended up upside down. His only injury was a scratch on his knee when he crawled out the window, the roll cage which all jeeps have saved his life, the doors help up fine as well. I don’t know many vehicles equipped with roll cages so that’s one huge advantage jeeps do have over other vehicles. My jeep also had 4 point harness seatbelts which held him in better than standard seatbelts, something I think would keep passengers in any vehicle from all that jolting around in any type of collision.

    I used to work for a rental car company that carried Wranglers. . . The ride quality was bad, the acceleration was bad, the braking was bad, there's barely any room for passengers to sit in the back, it felt unstable at highway speeds, and the turning radius was so unbelievably restricted that when we first took delivery, we thought there was something wrong with the vehicle. . .
    Regardless, I enjoyed driving the Wrangler. Why? Because it was flashy and fun. That's the main reason people buy them. I don't doubt that they perform very well as off-road vehicles which is what they're supposed to be used for. As a daily driver, the Wrangler is objectively terrible. . . But a lot of people just want a car that makes them feel cool.

    Structurally it seems safe.
    Looks like it lacks alot of airbags like side curtain airbags. Remember what the purpose of the jeep is people. Removable doors, roofs, drop windscreen...
    Something has to give. Structurally it seems to do a good job protecting accupant from intrusion

    My wife owns a Jeep Wrangler. She was rear ended by someone going 70 mph. She was 100% fine and the vehicle only had $500 in damage. The VW that hit here was 100% totaled and the drivers was taken to the hospital in an ambulance. Vehicle when driven correctly is VERY SAFE!

    I think the real life safety tests are very variable and relative. We own jeep wrangler and we unfortunately involved in some major accidents, surprisingly enough after the accident we drove the car home with minor scratches while the other cars were crumbled like coke cans. Jeep wrangler is safe car .

    Wranglers are as rugged as the people who drive them and are meant for people who already know how to drive. It's one of the few cars you can buy that still has an option for manual everything--manual transmission, manual window cranks, manual door locks. They do not, and have never, coddled their owners, nor do their owners expect it. If you're an urban dilettante who wants to sip lattes on the way to work, a Wrangler is not for you.
    Wranglers are plenty tough. Once a lady came to a dead stop in front of me just as I was completing a lane change. She said she heard a noise coming from the engine, and apparently she forgot that you're supposed to pull over, THEN stop. I received a bent bumper and a tiny ripple in my hood; her Hyundai was crushed to two-thirds its original length. Fortunately she wasn't hurt.
    Another time, somebody rear-ended me. He bashed in his grille and impaled his bumper on my recovery hook. All I got was scuffed paint on the recovery hook.
    Yes, it's possible to break a Wrangler. Hit anything hard enough and it'll break. Welcome to Physics 101.

      I had an early 90's S10 Blazer that was rear-ended by an early 2000's Accent... Accent was towed off with a wrecked bumped and damaged radiator... I had to polish the chrome on my hitch, barely felt the impact.

Something similar happened to me-I was rear-ended by a Honda CRV I think, impaled the bumper and cracked the grille in half, scuffed the paint on my recovery hook. The reverse also happened-I rear-ended a 2005 Elantra. The impact was such that the embossed letters on my license plate holder were stamped into the other car, and the trunk was crushed to half its original depth. I bent my bumper-on one side.
      I'll take the ladder frame over the stamped-metal origami, thank you.

Not to mention this jeep is solid steel and has extremely stout parts. If this were to wreck into most cars, it would easily win and take less damage.

      Since some parts of the body are made to be dismantled for example the Roof..Overall rigidity decreases as a result..The roof parts are not made to transfer impact forces..

This has a 5 point ROLL CAGE built in, name another with that rigidity.. Do you know anything about wrangler? You realize that the euro tests are made up of tests that don't really matter which constantly rank American vehicles (which are the safest in the world) low, because we don't design them to meet pointless scoring " milestones" . We don't factor in its "green" capabilities because in a CRASH that doesn't matter, unless you go up in flames like many teslas due to the battery exploding this jeep did acceptable in the only crash rating that actually matters, IIHS .

    it didnt look any worse than other pickups i saw and faird actually better than most pickup crash test ive seen

    I saw a sign in the plant with a picture of a rolled over wrangler and a note she sent thanking the manufacturer for her jeep rolling over and saving her life, i say, it wouldnt have had to save her life if it wouldnt have rolled- i too had a similar experience people you will roll if you get t boned at 35 mph, or at least up on 2 wheels like my experience. Its a lifestyle truck and its best for that- mudding lifestyle.

      I had a Nissan micra and a drunk driver in a
      Prius crushed it between a wall leaving a cat pancake. Quite happy tho because I bought my jeep which I love

    Looks like it can take a hit pretty good.
    If that was an older Jeep. You could bolt some new parts on and brush on another coat of house paint.

    Jeep doesnt seem to crample and absorb damage because of the rigid frame, meaning the passenger will be rattled like a ball bearing in a paint can upon impact.

    I’m glad it’s unsafe. Those new Jeeps are so phony. People buy them because they think they’re safe and they don’t have to be careful. They think it’s a classic car that you can drive anywhere and not have to put service into with all the latest safety features
