  • It wouldn't be CES without Samsung showing off a strange and strangely lovable robot, and this year is the same. At its CES 2024 press conference today, the company showed off a robot named Ballie that has a projector built in. Interestingly, though, according to a report from The Washington Post, Samsung said the robotic sphere will actually be available for sale within the year.

    Notice that they had that Ballie demo running on a perfectly smooth, hard floor. Well, most people don't have that in their homes. They have multiple types of flooring and carpeting from room to room and often have trim strips that separate the tile areas from carpeted areas. I can see Ballie constantly getting stuck on many of those and certainly never being able to navigate any type of a staircase at all either.

    It would be fascinating if Ballie could go from inside to outside and could actually Hoover or fly next to you and interact with AI. It could be an actual companion. Also, it needs to be able to roll up and down stairs. I don’t think we have the tech for it to do this yet. It could give advice, view your surrounding and real time and answer questions for you.

    • @mr.s1961
      @mr.s1961 8 месяцев назад

      lol the tech to do this has been here since at least the 80-90's, just not public. There are crazy things out there now, but it's either for government use (think CIA, NSA, etc), brought up by the wealthy, or kept undercover for other reasons. It just won't be priced for the average consumer to have.

    Notice how empty and carpet less and texture less the demo floor is. And also notice how dark it is. The projections won’t show up well in a well lit room, and if there’s carpet the robot will prolly get stuck. You’d also have to have enough wall space for it to project stuff.
