It hasn’t been made official but the movie musical was just made to boost Renee raps singing and acting career! Literally just a plant 😂 she’s amazing but I’m just pissed that she was a good guy in the end and all of her songs stayed the same (minus meet the plastics and the duet part of someone gets hurt)

Revolting children is one of the few, which I personally believe is an improvement. Not just a choreography pov, but also it just sounds better. Obviously they had a whole set vs a stage, but the film version is just spectacular!!

The Moulin Rouge film did the Elephant Medley better IMO. I haven’t seen the Broadway musical but from that brief snippet it seems weird that they have Christian and Satine singing all the lines together. The film very deliberately has them singing it as a sort of question and answer, with them alternating lines. He’s the optimist, she’s the realist.

i think it’s also because many movie musicals cast celebrities instead of broadway talent but there’s not much reason to do that with kids cause most child actors aren’t well known or at least won’t put any more viewership on the project so they can actually cast the most talented people for the roles

@HerHollyness and the chemistry between Ewan and Nicole is straight up nuclear. Same for ONJ and Travolta in Grease, they're iconic. The movie version of Mean Girls Musical tried to rein Renee Rapp in too much and cast an Aaron who couldn't sing, so it wasn't a spicy duet anymore.

I can get all the notes but it's just hard. I've got a voice on the higher side, almost soprano of mezzo soprano though so I can nearly everything in Phantom and also sing Eponine (I can't do Fantine though, that's too low). I figured out Evita sat in a really comfortable range for me recently, even with the high belts, it's fairly easy to get to it's just the starting sound of some of the words, breath and repetion all combined which makes it so hard. It's also just an awkward belt, it's mixed voice but so close to moving into head.

The two different versions of Santa Fe are particularly interesting to me because of the lyrics and the portrayal of Jack are both pretty different. Jack in the new version of the musical is just another average newspaper selling boy who’s a talented artist, while in the original movie he’s a cowboy who feels out of place in an urban place such as New York. Not to mention, the lyrics are slightly different in the original version, where he sounds more, desperate, you could say? I still wonder why they had to change up Jack’s character so much, the whole cowboy complex would better fit his dream to go to Santa Fe, at least in my opinion. it wasnt bad... ben platt looked weird sure, but ive watched the movie with a ton of people who weren't familiar with the musical a couple of months ago, and not one had a dry eye at the end. It still delivers the point of the musical pretty well id say. I honestly preferred some of the choices they made, like the development of alana's character, how evan confessed what he did to everyone instead of only the family, and how he told his mom what really happened to his arm at the end, which he weirdly didnt do in the stage version. There are some obvious flaws but it really isnt as bad as people make it seem like it is

Revolting Children (Matilda) - Original Stage Version
You're the One That I Want (Grease) - Movie
Elephant Love Medley (Moulin Rouge) - Movie
Jellicle Songs for Jellicle Cats (Cats) - Stage/ 1998 Filmed Version
Someone Gets Hurt (Mean Girls) - Original Stage Version (I have not seen either, but the movie version is not in the correct key)
Waving Through a Window (Dear Evan Hansen) - Original Stage Version
Therapy (Tick, Tick... Boom!) - Movie
Don't Rain on My Parade (Funny Girl) - Movie, because you can't top Barbra Streisand
Suddenly, Seymour (Little Shop of Horrors) - Both
One Day More (Les Misérables) - Original Stage Version
Santa Fe (Newsies) - Stage Version
Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again (The Phantom of the Opera) - Original Stage Version
In the Heights (In the Heights) - Movie (just for the way it's directed and choreographed)
Teacher's Pet (School of Rock) - Can't judge (I have not seen either)
Cell Block Tango (Chicago) - Movie
La Vie Boheme B (RENT) - Original Stage Version
Honey, Honey (Mamma Mia!) - Can't judge
Without Love (Hairspray) - Original Stage Version (movie has different lyrics and in a different key)
And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going (Dreamgirls) - Both
Love Thy Neighbour (The Prom) - Can't judge
King of New York (Newsies) - Stage Version
The Music of the Night (The Phantom of the Opera) - Original Stage Version (movie butchers the song)
Falling Slowly (Once) - Can't judge (but if I had to pick, I'd got with the stage version)
America (West Side Story) - All versions

I saw Matilda on Broadway (with Allison Luff as Miss Honey) and spent the whole time shifting through goosebumps, laughing and crying the whole show. The movie mostly gave me goosebumps, but got some laughs and tears as well. What really got me was how they locked into the cinematic choices they could make, like Matilda's story. Changing the medium from a sculpture to a painting- both being beautiful in their own ways.

  • @blameitoncapitalism
    @blameitoncapitalism 5 месяцев назад +27

unpopular opinion: In the Heights the movie is better than In the Heights the play, solely because the Vanessa-Usnavi mid story drama fits WAY better than the Nina-Benny one. Benny has no reason to blame Nina for being fired, and her reaction to his reaction wasn't good either, he was always supportive and she was not even a bit understansing that he was upset. the whole clube fight scene just makes both the characters a little less likable. Vanessa and Usnavi ARE the main couple and it just makes sense that they would have a mid story fight. plus Vanessa singing "I'm gonna find me way home without you" after the iconic "You abandoned me" "don't make me laugh" lines is just chefs kiss.

    • @-nina-8498
      @-nina-8498 5 месяцев назад +9

I can see why you think that but I am still extremely bitter that they killed off Nina's mom and thus, a major bit of Nina's story. Yes, Nina and Benny's stories are flawed but, first, they bring some of the best songs of the musical imo (Inutil but also Enough which is a masterpiece), it feeds into the idea of a lively neighbourhood in which a thousand things happen at the same time (and not just Usnavi's life) and it adds depth to their characters. In the musical, Camila is the heart of her family, not because she's a saint or the idealized dead wife but because she's infuriated with both her daughter and her husband's behaviour, and it's her anger that allows Nina and Mr Rosario to take a step back and ultimately make up. You lose all of this in the movie + most of Bennie's character as well.
It makes total sense that some parts of the story have to be cut in order for the movie to work but the musical will always be superior to me

      @yoongistwin 4 месяца назад +1

@@-nina-8498Exactly they got rid of some detrimental songs (some of my personal favorites) so although the choreography was so good in the movie, I really feel like they could have kept in some of the other songs while also making sure both couples had their on screen moments and stuff.

i think one of the things that make stage musicals work is even if the story is based in reality e.g. grease is 2 teenagers in high school, u can tell it’s a production and it’s fantastical like there’s a sense of surrealism like you know it’s still suspended from reality and i think that’s where some musical adaptations fall flat because they want to emphasise more on realism than surrealism which makes it not work. like imo the better movie musical adaptations are the ones that keep this sense of flamboyancy in terms of how the story is presented on screen
