Summiting Mt. Whitney in June - Overnight from Whitney Portal

- I summited Mt. Whitney for the second time only 8 months after my first summit. The difference in weather from October to June was so surprising!
We stayed at trail camp about 6 miles in and overnight the weather took a turn. There was wind, freezing temps, and surprisingly snow in June.
All that aside, I was once again amazed by the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range.
Join me and my friend Jessica as we summit Mt. Whitney via Whitney Portal.
I don't know HOW you did this...without sun glasses , especially up top with all that white granite ! One helluva good job , girl !
I have hiked Mt. Whitney 3 times. I'm 75 now but had my 60th b/day on Sept. 16. That is when I have moved to Oregon when I was thirty. I loved all my trips to Whitney. I lived in Redondo Beach Ca. Funny isn't it. I move to Oregon and I still love hiking The High Sierra. I love Calif. Houses were to expensive. I have a wonderful home but miss The Sierra Nevada. and The Owens Valley. Best place on earth. Happy hiking and I will see you down the trail. Kevin.
Awesome job!! Thanks for taking us along
So glad your back !
Looked like a good time! Keep hiking!
Superb Sharing! Lot of love and great respect from a solo mountain hiker friend from the Lower Chitral District of Pakistan.
Stunning video, lots of traffic up there. Most important in this vid was the audio track. I would have camped at a more wind protected spot. For fortune rockfall seems to be no problem.
Thanks for sharing this beautiful climb.
amazing climb thanks for sharing !
Great video!
Super cool video!!!
Nuthin’ but a G thang!
Love it!!!
Congratulations!!
🥾🥾
I fully enjoyed this and it was very informational. One day I hope to be able to hike it with my daughter who is in way better shape than I am. How has this not gotten more likes?
Awesome job topping out on Mt Whitney!!! That wind was no match for the 2 of you!
This is a great video and gives me a lot of confidence. I am deathly scared of heights. The drops at the “windows” do not look all too bad, I mean there seems to be enough room to walk.
I am contemplating a trip up there very soon and your video was extremely helpful to see trail conditions ! Keep up the great work
I’d say you’re clear for a couple months as far as trail conditions! The 99 switch backs were the only part with water that was a little frozen but literally nothing of concern!
@@AliSylvester awesome !! That’s super helpful I appreciate it !!
@@AliSylvester I summited on 7/3/2022 and your video was a big help and inspiration! :)
@@dychui I hope it was the best ever!
great video! thanks
Awesome video ty for sharing your unique experience on the port! What is that dope trucker cap you are wearing? The art on lit looks like R.P. Roberts work
Great video! You have the same backpack as me 😂❤
I like all your Gangsta Rap references, good stuff haha . I plan on mirroring your exact trip within the next month or so.
It’s a very manageable way to do it! Enjoy and comment back after the summit!! :)
Lmk if you want to climb the east face pretty chill time great experience. Also check out bishop next its only a little north!
1 mile!!!!! Back at it.👍👍👍
Summited a few days later on the 23rd. It was colder/windier/sleet-ier; saw the weather forecast, but had to go then or never. Took a nap in the hut, similar huddled mass in the same middle room, because the other two were filled with waist-high snow. So cold, barely took one photo. ...good-times.
Great video. Has anyone heard of folks summiting this summer? How are conditions up there? I know y'all got a ton of snow...
Congratulations! It's my dream to hike there, I haven't got any luck yet with the lottery
One of the best Whitney trek video I’ve ever watched ❤
Thank you!
Thanks for your video, I'm planning on trying Again. I Made it in 1992. I Only had a Camera (35mm)
Lucky you got a permit. I gave up for here and out of Yosemite for starting the JMT nobo from the south.
Watching this as I’m going for an overnight June 28-29th ! Have one open spot still otherwise it’s solo !!
Have the best time tomorrow summiting!
Looks like a great trip A!i, thanks for taking us along! No Ultra at the parking lot? 🤔
Haha not an Ultra this time. I know.. who am I!?
@@AliSylvester I feel like I don’t even know you anymore but I never did 🙄
I remember choosing an intermediate train in zion NP.. and ending up at the top of canyon due to poor signs. I had no water or nothing.. I just kept hiking the advance trail
I did that hike in 1983. Still looks the same.
Twas wondering when we’d hear from you again!!
Never soon enough if it’s when I’m back on a trail!
Congrats! If you had to do the trip over again, would you shine the extra 2+ miles to stay at the higher camp above tree line, or stay at the lower camp below tree line?
I’d still stay where I was, I think it makes for an easier morning! Maybe do it in a single push one day!?
Hello, maybe you can help me. when it comes to a day permit vs overnight im not sure which to choose. How far up is the campground from trailhead?
I miss your AT videos!
I miss long distance hiking!
Do you pack a backpack within a backpack? I noticed you pack changed after the first night.
Doing this hike next year in September. Currently live in Florida, do you have any recommendations on ways to train for this hike being at such a low elevation? Thanks 🤗
I’ve been up twice. Use the treadmill at max incline. Don’t hold on while on the treadmill. Wear a weight vest at the weight you’ll be carrying. Break in your boots. Practice your water filtering. Electrolyte tabs for the water are a must.Take some Motrin, it’s good for aches and pain as well as altitude sickness. Layers of course. Heavy duty work gloves are a good idea. When going up you fight the mountain. When going down the mountain fights you, so be ready. It’s the most beautiful scenery you will ever encounter. And, watch out for the Marmots. They are devious.
ALLL MIINEEEEE😍😗😙😘😚😎
What time did you leave the portal? I’m looking to tack Whitney the same way.
Late to the comment I’m sorry! I left at like 3:30pm ish
you still live ibn Oklahoma or did you move to california?
like it
I’ve done it twice. Watch out for the big one eyed Marmot at Trail Camp. I think he’s the boss Marmot and he absolutely loves Doritos. Him and his minions will clean you out.
Congrats on summiting Mt Whitney!! What time did you guys start from the trailhead and what time did you start the summit push on Day 2. It's my first attempt climbing Mt Whitney on 30th June so any input would be awesome. Thanks
We left Whitney portal trailhead at 3:15 pm and made it to camp around 8/8:30 pm moving at a very moderate pace with a few breaks. We left camp at 5:45 am and summited around 9/9:30 am.
I would say give your self more time than you need so you don’t feel rushed for daylight and so that you can stop and snack. I tend to be a go go go kind of gal where my friend preferred a more moderate pace with time to take in the nature!
Thanks for info!
"Ain't nothin but a G thang" lol
Is this near Bennington?
😂
New phone who dis?
I didn't see you sign the book. I feel cheated.
Your hella cute ! 🍻
When are you doing your claw clip hairstyle 💇♂️ tutorial?
You're cute. ;)
MAGA 2024!
Ear plugs.....
I did this last year when I was 11 bozo
Do it in one day from the portal, then maybe you will have something worthy of showing on youtube.
Wow really ? Why so hostile ?
@@dychui It is called critical thinking.
don't be such a jerk off!!
