Michael, I know this tutorial's been up for awhile but I just discovered it and it's terrific. Steady, aggressive pacing that challenged me but didn't leave me behind. I learned a lot - but I also realized I hadn't really been fully using some of the stuff I already knew. Thanks man!
Hi William. Thank you. Yeah, it was really fast paced. I tried an editing style like Cinecom.net. Just touching the important things and assume a certain AE knowledge. But some complained and I went back to the step-by-step style. But I’m glad you learned something 😊
@@MichaelPonch were there stretches where I hit 'pause' after every sentence? yes there were. But my space bar can take it. Here's my more or less finished product (which I would fine-tune now if I were doing it over) instagram.com/p/Ca4qxl7gWIi/
Curious, at 10:00 when applying the Alpha From Lightness, I notice I have a lot of white outside of the subject the file is a png that the background was transparent but it seems to be filling in the transparent background as well, is there a way around this? This is the 2nd picture this has happened with.
It seems to me that AE has changed since then that the Alpha From Lightness doesn’t work correctly anymore. Without knowing the specifics of your problem, you could adjust the Alpha with the Alpha Curve in the Curves Effect. Or instead of the Alpha From Lightness you could install the free Unmult Plugin 1.1 (just google it).
I wanted to put this here in case anyone else in the future has this issue - I was having the same problem, and changing my project from 32 bpc to either 8 or 16 solved the problem. Hope this helps someone someday.
This is great! Can you help with something? I have gone wrong somewhere, around 10:00 the footage is a solid fill, rather than habing the black appear transparent. Using the unmult seems to invert it all...
Thank you 😊. Strange, have you used other effects on the footage. However I found out that the built-in unmult is not so reliable. Better use the free unmult plugin

Great video! I'm wondering if there's an easy way to make this happen over 3+ seconds rather than 1 second without doing too much editing to it. any basic tips to achieve this?
I wrote notes on this video because I kept missing a step, filled six and a half pages. It works good now. I am just learning After Effects but I need to ask you a question. Is there a way that I can re-use all the steps I did with a different subject or object?
I’m glad you made it through this tutorial because it’s an advanced one 😊. As I recall you don’t have to do all the steps again. As long as object footage has a transparent background you can easily replace it by alt-dragging it onto the layers to be replaced. You might then adjust the Center Null and tweak some parameters depending on your subject.
Thank you 😊. I used the minimax effect because my shape was irregular. If your diamond shape is symmetrical maybe a simple scale animation would do the job. Better if the diamond shape is a shape layer then the Offset operator might be useful 😊
well, i tried to do it , everything went well , but i guess something went wrong with the project files , i don't know how u did to remove background and leaving only yourself in that perfect way. I used rotobrush and removed background , however when i apply those filters to create "ENERGY FILTER" , what i have is that "energy filter is not on top of my subject " it's spread out on entire comp , so it looks weird . I don't know the main issue about that , but i assume it's cuz i didn't remove background properly or prepared footage well.
Yes this could be the reason. Instead of rotobrushing you could rotomask your subject. It may take a bit longer but you’ll get get the background removed precisely 😊
Michael, I am an old git, so forgive the next question. Do I purchase adobe Photoshop for this beam me up Scottie effect? I ask as you are using Adobe after effects and I have no idea if this is part of photo shop or something else?
Hi 👋. Ask me whatever you want. There are no dump questions 😊. Actually After Effects is a separate app. But it’s part of the Adobe family. You rather purchase a subscription where all programs, Photoshop/Premiere Pro for editing/After Effects & more, are the included. But afaik you can also buy a subscription just for one of the applications which is cheaper. Hope that helps.
My friend would be like: Friend: I am hungry Me: want you want Friend:umm sushi Me: ok be right back Friend:what? Me:(transports) Friend:wut Me:ok got it Friend:AHHH
You can use one setup as a template, duplicate it multiple times and just change the source footage. So you don’t have to do the process over and over again. But it could be really render intensive. So I would advise making prerenders or proxies then 😀
There is something wrong with Particle World, in my case, the middle part doesnt go away, the rest is ok, its just that i have a mid nucleus of particles that wont go away LE:Nevermind, it was in the Producer tab, i had to 0-out everything there
The effects are great and you're clearly a professional but I think they are too fast paced and it's very complicated for someone who is just starting out, I think that's why your channel is not blowing up. You should focus on cool easy to replicate effects which the average user should be able to follow. I don't mind spending hours following your guide but I think the majority don't have that kind of patience
Thank you very much and thanks for your feedback. Yeah, there were similar complaints with my Flash tutorial. That was the time I tried out to cover just the main steps to edit my videos faster. My videos now are mostly step-by-step. Good point to address the average user. I already have a certain tutorial in mind 😊
Now this is the kind of quality I expect from 500k+ subscriber RUclipsrs! Keep these fantastic tutorials coming!
I just want you to know this is actually the best after effects channel in the entire world
Most underrated channel, it should be 1 Million subscriber
Thank you 😊

i dont know why...but now i can make my own lensflare pack...the lf trick was amazing..
Yeah. It was just a simple example. But you inspired me to create a DIY lensflare system that works similar to Videocopilot's Optical Flares 😎

I haven’t tried it yet but you could precompose everything except of the footage and time stretch the precomposition
Thanks by the way 😊
