Was there.Came from Dublin. Wish i was that carefree teenager again
I was 20.Got badly sunburned. Slept in the car. Unforgettable weekend.
I was there. Along with a group of other USAF members stationed at RAF Mildenhall. We used the American flag as our location devise for our rally point, if I recall. One of my favorite memories of my 2 year tour from 76-78. Thank you English people for treating us Yanks, as you called us, as your guests and friends. I will never forget those wonderful 2 years and the many concerts I got to see there, from the first one when I just arrived of the Climax Blues Ban at the Coin Exchange in Cambridge, (Peter Haycock played one of the best guitar solos I've ever heard), to my last one seeing the legend, BB King at the Hammersmith Odeom my final weekend in England in October 1978. Wherever did the last 43 years go? Lucky for me, Hawaii, where my next assignment was and where I never left.
Fantastic memories, thank you for sharing them
God I loved that gig. I was 17. A little ray of light during a shitty part of my life.
I was 19. "Borrowed" my step mothers car, filled it with friends - and took off. It was utterly wonderful - magical and unforgettable. Can't wait to see(some of) them again in 2021.
I was at this concert as an innocent 17 year old. A few years ago I was back in that empty field with Genesis on my headphones reliving the experience.
I was 16 my first ever gig , hiked it down from Wendover with a friend , would never these days , put up the tent , popped into Stevenage for our party pack, headed to the field ,picked our spot, was a great show with lasers and atmosphere Genesis where brilliant was just fantastic, headed through the trees still buzzing , thankfully found our tent. Will live with me forever and the best way ever to be introduced to gigs .
I was 17. I remember the sky being lit up at night by the lasers during the Genesis show. Where have all the years gone!
This was my first outdoor concert.I skipped school to be there and couldn't care less that I got detention the following week for my absence. One of the most memorable concerts of my life. Thanks for posting.
I will never forget this weekend ,it was spell bounding ,oh how we miss Genesis and how we were honoured to see them.what briliance, what show man ship ,can they ever be matched ?
Yes, I was there with my girlfriend. I was 19 and she was 18. We have been married now for 31 years! This was our first outdoor concert and we travelled from Rainham in Essex in my Girlfriend's Morris 1100, before the M25 was built.....seemed like a long journey. I remember the rain and being under a plastic sheet....Devo being bottled and a long wait for Genesis!! great memories!
I was there all day, I was 18 and I will never forget it.
I had also seen them the year before at Earls Court.
AtomiX I saw them at Earls Court too. And at Leicester earlier that year. Three great shows!
@@dorsetbay I saw them three times too but I can't remember where I saw them the third, maybe just like you in Leicester.
I was a young Italian, in England to learn English as millions of "foreigners" like me have always done.
I spent three years in England, from sixteen to eighteen, then I had to return for national service which was compulsory at the time.
I loved going to concerts, in those years I have seen Bob Dylan and many more I don't even remember anymore, and in a small theater guess who? Suzi Quatro .... remember?
hahahaa
Those were days.
Amazed to find this! I was there too - aged 20 with gf. Was in the summer holidays after my first year at uni.
Amazing day. Starship and Genesis were ace. I'm a big Devo fan too, so I had it all!
+Robin Lewis I loved Devo but think they got a rough ride from Starship fans' hippies
I was 15, California kid there with my English cousin. We got pissed as rats and had a blast! We stayed the full 3 days, Devo was great (although they got booed) and Atlanta Rhythm Section, Tom Petty. Was amazing! Wow, 42 years whizzed by 🌬
So many first experiences that day... 16 years old and 'away with the Faeries' !!!!
was lucky enough to work at the Park and met Phill and the boys whilst doing there sound check.Stood on stage and watched lights being tested aswell. Magical days.
I was doing back stage security for Show Sec, my friend Wal Gore put me up for the job. Stood behind Phil Collins when he done his drum solo, wont forget that in a hurry. And when i got a break went home for a brew, only lived a few minutes away, handy!.
I was at that concert back in the day, My 2nd day in the U.K. in the back of a van with a bunch of people I had just met. Flew standby from NYC on the old Laker Airlines. Tom Petty was great, Devo got booed off the stage. The throwing of beer cans in the crowd was something I never witnessed in the US. One crazy summer.
Remember listening to this live on the radio, thanks for brining it all back!
Was there aged 21 . Fantastic memories.
ahhh...brilliant!, thank you! cant believe I was only 15 and allowed to go! car windscreen shattered on the way home, but my head was just ringing with fantastic memories.
I can't believe this show was never films, can't find a copy of it anywhere
My first festival, we arrived the night before, wow ! What a weekend, I was 17.
this brings back some memories, it rained for a good part of the day. My friends and i spent the best part of the concert under a sheet of plastic drinking copious amounts of beer and smoking weed. missed Devo altogether...lol A day in my youth i will never forget.
Was there for my 2nd Genesis gig aged just 21
I was 15 then & what a great show it was by Genesis.Stood by the big tree looking at the stage on the left hand side, good days.
Avevo 18 anni ,conservo ancora il biglietto. Ma quanti amici persi nel tempo, Mark mi manchi.
Thanks
My dad drove me and some mates all night from Fife to get to this. I still remember the bass player from Devo playing baseball with a plastic bottle of pee someone threw at them. A wonderful day and evening.
Like many others I was there too, remember the rain, got my entire body into a bin bag with just ny head sticking out, certainly couldn't fit in a bin bag anymore.... the bin bag was given to me by a girl from Greenwich with a Morris Minor.... very random memories!
i drove down with my best friend and drummer, Miles. I remember the terror when the lights were turned off and thousands of people squelched in desperation towards their vehicles. I remember Devo, Jefferson Starship. But most of all Genesis and the terrible urge to pee
Came across this vid by chance - like everyone else, can't believe it was 34 years ago! Sarah and I had to leave early to get back to London by train (dumb or what!?). Whenever I hear 'Follow You Follow Me' I close my eyes and I'm there, a warm summer evening (did it rain:-j), music floating through the trees, simply sublime!
I was there and still remember it as if it was yesterday. Went with a whole load of friends and remember it took us hours to get out of the car park. had a good fry-up at some cafe!!
Meet these guys here Cincinnati during the 78 tour. The mirrors tour was the coolest effect. Better than vari lights!
Excellent reminder of that damp summer's day that warmed up with Genesis taking the stage. One of their best and most memorable performances. Excellent video montage. :)
I was there, krikey, what a gig!!
It took so long to clear up the mess after this one that I was able to go back a week later (I only live a mile from the park) and find where I had been sitting by our pile of empty bottles.
I was there Genesis played the entire Suppers Ready Liked Tom Petty great singer. Still have the program. We were going to camp after the concert finished but it all went a little crazy people pushing over the fences and lighting fires every where. Ending up driving back to my mates house in London. I was up form Bristol with my girlfriend Kay. Cant remember it raining but great concert. Genesis were very late taking the stage, lasers were good.Had to get permission from the Aviation industry (Planes flying in)
Genesis did not play Supper's ready at Knebworth '78, the oldest song they did was the Fountain of Salmacis, conclusion : you were not there.
@@hamishmclumsy816 Have checked the setlist and I got it wrong but I was there with my girlfriend Kay. I still have the program bought at the site. Genesis came on late and they used the lasers high into the sky. I remember that had to get permission from the airports near by to use them. Its a long time ago so got the songs wrong. People were lighting fires every where at the end and started pushing fences over to get out. We had planned to camp after but ended up driving into London to stay with a friend.
First Festival I ever went to
the first rock concert i eva went to, unforgettable memories
Random in feed, heyho, cast to TV 👊 bask in how it was 🤘
One of my greatest regrets. I had the album, the application form but......
OMG I was there ,It was amazing !!!!!!!! :)
present !......double two thumbs up !!
Two pretty young girls asked me if I'd like to come to this concert with them, it would have meant an overnight stay, WHY WHY WHY did I say no, aarrrggghhhhhhh.
Such a wonderful day! I actually enjoyed Devo in a wierd way...but we all knew who we were waiting for!! However, the toilets........one good improvement for now.
F****n hell! I CAN believe it was 34 years ago,or three lifetimes ago if you prefer.I was a mere slip of a girl,15 years old to be precise, only aloud to go if accompanied by two older siblings. . .successfully ditched them within an hour and spent a blissful day with a punk called Kev from Essex, lovely motorbike, smoke through green lasers in sky, smoke in lungs in blue sleeping bag. Don't care what anyone says, Devo were one of the highlights!!!!
Remember it well
was there under the welsh flag with Ken Evans crowd from the Knights arms porthcawl - took hours to get my car out after
I was there also. Does anyone have the full John Peel quadraphonic recording of the show. Those were th years Genesis Knebworth and then the next year Led Zep.
Was this concert filmed ?
There's only this. ruclips.net/video/OpOZI3tfnBM/видео.html
There was an audio done by the BBC for Alan Freeman's Prog show ruclips.net/video/GGwm6-mIBEo/видео.html
Does anyone have the recording. I remember recording it from the radio in quadrophonic but the cassette has disappeared.
There are radio shows and audience recordings available on the Genesis Torrent site.
Complete audience recording including Bob Harris intro

I have a copy and can get it for you. I have downloaded the torrent and it's very good quality - maybe the same source as your original tape. All I need (and not sure how to get this out of public view) is your email and I can sent a dropbox link to the mp3 or WAV files. BTW, I also went to this and loved it. Was I the only one though who loved Devo too?
Thanks Jamie. Yeah not keen on Devo myself. Saw Led Zep at Knebworth as well in 1979 great show. My e-mail is j.hebblewhite@unsw.edu.au many thanks MP3 would be good. Regards from OZ
