    Thanks for the video, It helped me figuring out how to get that fly wheel off. Put my new coil on and it starts right up!

    On the Ryobi, there's no need to completely remove the back plate, only the two top screws which secure the front cover.

    You say the ignition coil doesn't go bad that often I think it happens more than people think it does just this season alone I had 3 coils go bad on my equipment first my blower vac second my hedge trimmers then third my lawn mower, after the engines would run for a while and get hot they would shut right down until I let them cool down then they would run again until they got warm again and shut back down classic case of a bad coil, I tested all three when cold and after warm up when they shut down and they tested for a no spark when hot replaced all three coils and everything works fine now.

      Two strokes are bad for electrical gremlins and burning piston rings out

      I had the exact same problem.... No start when hot. I thought it was the coil as that is definitely one way they go bad. But after checking out the rest of the unit I found out the carb had small trash stuck in the needle passage. Now it would start hot or cold but still die a while after warming up and had no power. So I figured I'd take a look in the front and see how hard it was going to be too replace that coil. Upon separating the front housing from the motor you could definitely see that the plug wire was worn right down to the center conductor from rubbing on the cooling fins on the motor. I needed to use it so I pressed the cut together and wrapped it in friction and electrical tape. Then I slid a small piece of sliced automotive fuel line over the whole length to keep it from touching anything. I purchased the new coil and it arrived days later but the weed whip is running like new. I will finish it the season with the old coil and install the new coil when I'm looking for something to do while drinking a cup of hot coffee in the shop on a snowy winter day! Oh it is a MAC 2816 that I've used every summer for over 30 years now and that was the first major problems I've had with that unit. I've since started buying old junk units and parts to refurbish them. That trimmer has taken any task that I've thrown at it and a lot I shouldn't have tried, and it handled them no problem and the cylinder walls and piston still look like new! 9:16 9:16 9:16 9:16 9:16 9:16

      Yeah that exact same thing is happening to me right now on my Remington walk behind string trimmer and I wish I can figure out how to replace the Ignition coil and if I do hopefully that will fix my problem also because it runs fine for a little while but then as soon as it gets warmer or hot it quits and I have to wait for a little while like you said and then it'll run for a little bit again but just for a little while then it quits again and it ends up taking me forever just to cut a small amount of weeds where in the past when my machine was newer it wouldn't quit like this so I'm pretty sure this is the problem.

      Ain't like in this video... The coils are now coming from China and out of spec they bind up no matter how ya set em even with the gapping tool the mount holes are way outta whack bought two coils one off Ebay and one straight from Ryobi. Both of em are junk...

    Did you just say that plug shouldn’t be tested by simply grounding it to the frame? That it has to be in a pressurized environment.....? Dude ... I’m speechless

    Hi, What type of screw is it that has to be undone , What head is it as I can't undo it and I can't see inside the drum that has to be removed at the start

    • @Gourockian1
      @Gourockian1 4 года назад

      It's an Allen Screw. You need a hex wrench, 1/8th inch, I believe. It unscrews anti-clockwise.

      Hi Mick. The ignition coil comes as a 1-piece part, so yes you will have to replace the whole coil. If you send over your model number, I'd be glad to help you find the right coil that you need!

      Me too. I was wearing headphones and it only sounded in the right side, which is the side where my room door is. Scary thing is - I knew no one else was at home! Had to restart to double check. So realistic.
