    Hey, I know I’m late to this thread; but just wanted to thank you for making this video.
    I picked up a non-working one of these for $15 a couple of weeks ago (a little different model than yours, but very similar), watched your video, verified that I had no spark even though the plug looked good.
    I ordered the ignition part to try it out, and after replacement, it started right up.
    I’m super stoked!! This is my first gas blower (I’ve been a corded dinosaur up until now, lol!
    Thanks again!!!

    I have a leaf blower that is very similar to this one and it began having similar problems last summer. I decided to purchase a 40v electric blower but found it to be incomparable the Ryobi. Nothing beats good ole’ gas!
    So I replaced the carburetor and spark plug on the leaf blower but no visible improvement were evident. The ignition module is the next logical part to replace. Thanks for sharing this knowledge and posting!

    Excellent video !! I have the same problem with no spark.. was not looking forward to the tear down but seeing your vid has convinced me to do it.. Nice step by step. And I also agree that this Ryobi model is a winner.. Have mine for years also.. Never failed and easy 100% start. thanks !!

    I've had this model for over 10 years. Only been in the shop once. Always started up until recently. I've bought a new Ryobi blower but would like to fix this ne to keep as a backup. And your right, Ryobi Rocks. I also have the 2 cycle 30cc brush cutter (BC30) that I use with the trimmer head and it has lasted 14 years. Thanks for the videos, they may help me fix my blower.

      My newest one recently stopped running ( I think it’s the coil). Forced me to use the old one again. In ways, I like it better

    Thanks for the excellent video. I knew I wasn't getting any spark even with a new plug, so it was either the ignition coil or the kill switch.

      I wish I could help more. I usually just search through the manuals from the specific maker website. Then I just cross reference the part number with other sites to try to find the best price. Sometimes it’s difficult to find

      Just a word of advice. This old tony on RUclips showed that sometimes cheaper compression test kits don’t give accurate results. Maybe rent one from an auto parts store (if they will right now) to get a second opinion

    I don't know how you can possibly like that old thing compared to the new one.I actually bought the new one and it was very impressive. I took it back there because I wanted the Ryobi backpack blower

      The throttle cable broke on it a few weeks back. I have had to use the new one since. Can’t wait to get the old one fixed. I’ve been missing it

    I got 50 psi unless it was seeping around the spark hole. Trying to find how to head gasket. Really like the blower , had for 10 years or so.

      You could try looking at the cylinder with an inspection camera to see if it has groves from the piston

    Well I can only say you're lucky, I bought the four cycle version of this one and after replacing the carburetor, timing belt and spark plug plus taking it apart and putting it back together, I finally put it aside for a later time,if I would've known what a POS these were I would've never bought it to begin with.

    • @EverydayJourney
      @EverydayJourney  3 года назад +1

      Never owned a four cycle blower. Used one once and thought it was heavy and if I remember, louder.

    • @rogercamp6071
      @rogercamp6071 3 года назад

      @@EverydayJourney well I bought this one used unaware of all the potential issues, just figured it was something simple to get it running again, didn't know it was an OHC design with a timing belt,parked it out of the way for awhile and maybe revisit it later, I've taken it apart and put it back together enough times that I could probably do it in my sleep by now 🙂

    Hi, i did everything you said, question. Well first mine did not start up, if my magnet is say 2 business cards away. Will it still start, at least try to? And if its not the coil, what is the next electrical spot to check ? Im getting no spark on my tester. Plug and coil are new. What now?

    • @EverydayJourney
      @EverydayJourney  6 месяцев назад

      How far away is something that would need to be looked up. Normally a business card works. Another thing to check is your switch that makes it stop. When you push it, it grounds and causes no spark. Broken switch might ground all the time

    great video, but tell me, how many turns, lock to lock on the lean/rich needle valves. How many turns should I turn from all in before adjusting...I set them both at 3 turns, but can't get it to fire. Thanks,

    • @EverydayJourney
      @EverydayJourney  4 года назад

      I honestly don’t know. I always count the number of turns when I take them out and then try to match a new one to that. Then I adjust from there

    I got lost, what was the problem? I have a same one that doesn't want to go on.

    • @EverydayJourney
      @EverydayJourney  5 лет назад +1

      In the end, it was the ignition coil. It fires the spark plug to ignite the fuel and turn the engine.

  • @GmGarlo
    @GmGarlo 4 года назад

    So you can put on another coil from some other equipment as long as it will fit in . is that right?

    • @EverydayJourney
      @EverydayJourney  4 года назад

      You can try it. Sometimes there are other differences that make it incompatible. Wouldn’t hurt to try it before buying one

    It's smart to use Premium gasoline in small engines. Unlike an automobile it will probably cost only a few dollars a year more. If you bought the Ryobi BP42, return it and get a new one next season. They die after a year or so. Ryobi hillbillies will guide you through all the things that could be wrong. That process requires buying part they suggest, waiting for part, installing new part, calling Ryobi when that didn't fix the problem. I went through this 4 step/week long process-At least 5 times: Air filter(1 week), fuel filter(1 week), carb cleaned, carb replaced with a new one, new fuel and air lines installed, new plug. Over 12 hours and ~$100 into this and I give up. Ryobi sucks. Their hillbilly helpers are in the business of getting you to buy all these solutions!! They don't get paid to actually help you with your problem. If the Chinese blew leaves, they'd make a better leafblower. They don't-Ryobi BP42 is a planned obsolescence product. This piece of crap is actually a terrific leaf blower when it works. Show me a homeowner who was able to fix their BP42 and I'll blow your leaves for a season.
    Also...when you're on the phone with them and they ask you for the serial number on your blower, you'll see that the serial number is sleazily hid by an impossible to read microscopic font size. DO NOT PULL THE STICKER OFF TO READ THE NUMBER!! While on the phone with them I pulled it off It voided my warranty. VERY SLEAZY COMPANY!!
