The person in the decision making room that suggested $80 scouts, should be fed to the Emperor
I mean it is a 10 man box
Still a stupid price for those 10 though.
@@midknight9327 $8 per mini is way too high. It's not like these are low run resin models. It's standard plastic. Warlord will sell you 8 German Heavy Infantry for Konflikt 47 for 42 GBP, that's like £5/$7 per mini and they're made of metal...
@@midknight9327 $8 for one 28mm miniature is pretty terrible if you compare it to any other company in the industry
They don’t deserve the honour
If you want some Ratling Snipers, Wargames Atlantic do multipart kits of 24 'Sneak Feet' for less than the price of a Kill team box
War games Atlantic is awesome!!! It’s insane how much bang u get for your buck with them. Got a kit from them to play Trench Crusade with and I’m in love
I bought a ton of their "harvesters" which are a nice replacement for hormagaunts. I like that you don't need bases for them and they stand on their own if you work on posing them right. Cost me around a dollar a piece compared to GW's $5 a piece for the new box.
Jay idk if you’ll see this but I don’t play warhammer, I don’t paint miniatures but this is possibly my favourite RUclips channel overall and it’s purely because of you. I’m going through a pretty tough spot right now and just sitting across the table from my buddy talking about his passion is really nice. You give a sort of bob ross vibe and I don’t know *how* you always have more to say but I’m really glad you do:)
They could easily turn codex's into a book about that faction that has lore; overall and specific to sub-factions, characters, current timeline events etc and then a huge hobby section with a how to paint section but of all model types; infantry, vehicle, mounted etc, a conversion ideas bit, even a scenery area so you can play your faction in their part of the universe.
They could even show an army progression example for crusade, a bit like how they used to do the warlords thing in white dwarf; so show someone's army at 500 points then the bits they add to get to 2,000 points and why to encourage people to play crusade.
It's so simple 🤷♂
E.g. fantasy army books
@@florian3183 i wont even lie, i got these ideas from things i've seen GW do! 😂
I'd rather they remove all app codes for these books and the rules are in-app and online reference sheets, officially. Why are we not all flocking to a GW official database instead of wahapedia? Why does a bolt pistol suddenly require a codex purchase to have the privilege of even LOOKING at the datasheet?
A codex could still be released once per edition and contain a summary of the lore from previous edition + some new and unique stuff. They could even write an intro that leads into the theme of the new edition with hints of the future.
They could do paint and customization guides with different minis in each codex, split into different difficulty levels and special focus unique characters and any model/unit released at the same time as the codex.
100% agree on the codexes. New versions are useless. Killteams are too expensive for me now, $80 is absurd and combat patrols are all worse than the last versions. I don't see myself adding any new factions to my collection in today's world.
At least with the combat patrols it is more about being even for combat patrol
It's 11.00 am GMT. My lunchbreak just started. Perfect timing as usual.
6am for me, getting ready for school lol, perfect EonsofBattle timing
It’s like he knows…
Have a good app with rules people can actually use. That's it. That's the entire wish/goal. Nothing they could ever do with movies or boxes could ever possibly compare to just being decent to your players
Buy one get one half price combat patrols would sell incredibly well in my opinion and it solves the problem you brought up about Vs boxes not appealing to everyone due to it specifically being two factions pre picked
You hit the nail on the head at the end. Modern 40k feels like you’re playing a game instead of simulating a battle. “Telling stories on the tabletop” is how GW used to talk about it. Even just playing narrative and campaign games, the rules themselves feel video or card gamey.
Gamers when a warGAME plays like a GAME 😢😰😰💀😱😱😱😱😱😱😱
It feels the same to me. I've been playing since 2015 and watched people play it at my lgs for another 5 before that. 10th is more simple but that doesn't make it "gamey" and 11th will be better if it is more complex. But your complaint is weird
@@games-wz7sz ummm yes?
Tabletop wargaming started with and grew out of historical war gaming. Where the entire point of the game is to simulate historical battles. You want your French cavalry to act a certain way not because it’s balanced or fair or even fun. You want them to act a certain way because that’s how they acted in real life.
Fantasy and 40k came from this DNA. It’s about simulating a battle. Now since it’s all fake it’s obviously not the same but it was always there in the background.
A good example: in modern 40k you shoot at entire units, so even if you can’t see a model you can still kill it. From a simulation standpoint that makes zero sense. Like it’s completely dumb. Older 40k said “well if you can’t see them you can’t shoot them, because that’s how reality works.”
Things in modern 40k like stratagems, command points, shooting at units, no true LOS, the way cover works, etc… feel very gamey, as in they exist for the sake of the game and not for simulating a fictional battle. Like why can’t my guard commander tell these guys to run faster? From a game POV it’s obvious why commanders can’t increase every units movement every turn but from a simulation POV it’s dumb and doesn’t make sense. “Command points” don’t exist in real life.
I’ve been playing 40k since 1994 and I’ve seen the shift. You almost certainly haven’t. Especially if the people you played with weren’t interested in this style of game to begin with.
It’s not wrong, it’s just different.
@@games-wz7szso you've been playing for 3 maybe 2 editions.... Hard to take a stand on what 40k used to play like
well it isnt a good day without a eob video
Mantic do this very well.
There are 3 two player starter sets for firefight.
Then there's an equivalent to combat patrols (but with way more models) that include the rule book, tokens and dice.
All of them under £100
I still think they should go back to making DnD like rogue trader rule books. Blackstone fortress is for me the most interesting product they made because you actually got to see things outside of just the big factions waging wars.
You're basically describing Necromunda. Necromunda plays like a skirmish RPG.
If GW understood economics, they would understand people stop buying shit after a certain price point
They probably do, if they're charging these amounts, it's because people are paying for them.
@Robster881, you're absolutely right. I'm not a fan of a lot of their pricing model, and certainly not a fan of the overall price of Warhammer, but GW is a big company. They absolutely have people whose job it is to study pricing models and increases, and they've determined that people will pay this.
Spot on. I particularly agree with artbook / codexes. I used to love my army books to bits
really like the codex idea
To add to the vs box idea, have it real small like a troop and hero or elite model, 4 spurs, have it real small so that you and your friend will want to split it. Like the price point of the old kill team starter set and have them on a 3 month rotation of different match ups, orks vs eldar, chaos vs admech, sisters vs necron.
The bigger challenge for some factions is that some need way, way too many models to be competitive, or the models are too specialised into characters (hello GSC), or there's just too much historical baggage and they should pare the 'current' model list down (this happens a lot in Sigmar, with Slaanesh for example, it's such a bloated faction units-wise), or there's simply not enough variety.
I weirdly enjoyed putting together and painting an easy-build redemptor that a friend dug up from his pile (i finished painting it before my actual normal redemptor cause it was so smooth), if they did more kits like that around the price of the easy-build blighthauler I'd love it, that thing's still like £15.
Hey Jay, you've said green isn't your best colour in terms of familiarity. So why not try some strangers greens with the sylvaneths or salamanders.
Could do some kit bashed pyroclasts which could be interesting
Factions need expansion boxes. Like another 500 points to get after the combat patrol. Each faction could have 2 or 3 depending on what way you want to build the army. Then you just buy single kits as a final little customization.
woo new eob video right when class starts ive got something to do in releigions class
gw prices have finally done it ive now switched over to 3d printing
And gw is getting really strict about 3d printing
The greater good nickle. You got me there. Nearly spit out my drink laughing :D
Day 96 of asking Jay to paint a skitarii
Woaw! A relic of the past! Haven't seen the skitarii day count in a wile :)
I agree with your point about Codexes (Codicies????). They should not contain rules, that get out of date day after we can buy them.
Tome of lore, artwork and hobby ideas would be much more valuable!
i honestly think you are straight up wrong, about Combat patrol not being the entry point. I know of several people who, after playing Space Marine 2, have deliberately gone out and gotten themselves a combat patrol for the faction they found cool. some got specific marines, others got Tau, Ork other Xenos. Personally i would hate to pick up a box with 2 factions, if I only wanted to play one. would much rather just get a starter for the faction i want. for all the miniature games ive played, ive pretty much always stayed clear of "2 faction boxes". would much rather just get the one I want, instead of either trying to find someone to split a box with, or sell of the models i dont want.
Been watching lore tubers and EOB for a few months now… just picked up the Yaegirs box for $65 and a few supplies for total less than $100. Perfect entry point. Wish the box came with like a lore booklet, maybe a backdrop you can take photos with after your done. Small things that would only add value but cost cardboard.
I am so confused, the intro is missing. And I watched the video but there is still missing something... Oo
The easy build used to be in the guard as a snapfit 5 man guardsmen box for £15 , 4 guys with lasguns
They should do what they did for spearhead, with combat patrols, it was huge for AOS in my area.
Your codex idea is awesome and would absolutely work on me. I love art and lore and would buy so many of them.
Have decent discounts in store. Maybe a frequent purchase points scheme to redeem on future purchases (or unlock a free model, or paint pot). This would build store loyalty and keep revenue coming into the offical GW stores. If I knew “Orktober” was 20% all Ork models in store for the month I’d be more likely to walk in and grab something. They could even go out of their way to stock the whole Ork range for the month, then send whatever isn’t needed back to the warehouse when promotion is done. That kind of thing would be cool, it helps GW and also offers something back to their customers
Preach!!! Everything you said, reflects my opinion perfectly! Codex’s should be lore books! Proper spearhead boxes for 40K! Gw should hire you!
I don't usually disagree much with Jay, but this is one of those occasions. I don't much like the various two players starter box sets LAOK style and I think combat patrols should contain more plastic and a rule only codex. But for all they may offer, we are reaching a critical price point, for them not to take a price decrease in consideration might really be the end of it.
I agree they should keep the easy to build kits around and clearly label them
That new Complete Guide to Warhammer 40k DK book is only like 40 bucks. If they made something like that for every faction, I would buy a bunch of them. Just lore and art, but go all in, is a fantastic idea for rolling out a new codex. And it could also fulfill the place left behind by the old painting guides that were just minies of the various factions.
James Workshop, PLEASE DO THIS.
Good call, Jay.
Rogal Dorn tank is great
skill issue
I never ever used to complain about GW’s prices as I know it’s always been a premium hobby and just used to pay it, but the most recent LOTR releases are so incredibly expensive it’s insane! I haven’t bought anything from GW in months and months now. What’s scary is the prices will keep creeping up! It’s scary to think what the prices will be in years to come😅
Rejoice! You were under monetized, but GW has corrected its ways and raised the value of your plastics 😊
It would be great if the app had legends units, mission cards, terrain layouts and a wound tracker
Yeah I wish codexes were something like that, it could be a nice Christmas present for example.
I dont think having starter boxes for everything is a realistic goal, but id love to see a bundle on the webstore thats a discount on a rulebook, combat patrol and another box, terrain piece and a codex code for the app for like 20-25% off the price of buying it all separately and would be much easier for GW to handle and distribute.
I'd like the rules to go digital, offer cards or a rolodex type book for those who want physical rules aids (with thought put into how they could be updated as the edition rolls on, update stickers perhaps?) and sell lore books for each of the factions (that doesn't even need to be updated every edition if there isn't anything noteworthy to add.
Keep point of entry as easy and streamlined as possible (a single digital document that gets updated as needed for each faction is where we should be by now!) and supplement it with things for the collectors.
I’d like to see harlequins become a proper army agian with a codex. We do have mimes from really old lore that could come in. They could have a hero on bike, a named character, and a special wraith construct called… I dunno.. a mannequin! I miss our 8th edition codex
I am pounding on my table. I am saying 'return of Dorn'.
GW tanked the faction specific starter box, now the closest you can get is the $170 Combat patrol box. Still a decent way to start an army I guess.
Oh!! I saw you title and wanted to give my answer before watching:
GW could make me happy by rolling out an 'unlimited' game mode like MTG has. I think it's called Unlimited. You can use all the old and new models, with unified rules (I suppose some exceptions would apply for balance) so that we can use literally any model in our armies or warbands.
And then GW could make me *really happy* by giving everyone who buys a model an STL of it, so that we'd have the 'rights' to print it, or print parts of it, if we so choose, and as we so choose.
But let's be real: There's no way they'll ever make me happy like that.
As a new player I can confirm that I don't want options in my units.
Everything I have seen from 9 backwards is nightmare inducing
I normally agree with you Jay, but combat patrol is legit why all my friends got into 40k, because the jump start it give people on the faction they want to, in my friend group we don't have many of the same factions, as a collector myself with over 2000 models I only buy combat patrols for factions I probably won't play but will assemble and paint,
I don’t know how it works for pricing outside of the UK but the different between the votann and scouts is £5 domestically. For context £5 is not a lot it’s like a meal deal (a shitty lunch you can buy from a supermarket here)
In the US it is a difference of 15USD or the price of a rather nice lunch
@@PaoloPaskin yeah, I’ve got some friends in the US and Aus that are 40k players. Compared to the reasonable cost of hobbies and living in those countries GW is wild expensive.
But £5 isn’t even the cost of a Big Mac meal here.
A silly thing that would make me happy is to add like 2 or 3 extra bodies into your sprue boxes. Just so you have a little extra for say a swap out pick of a special weapon or something for kitbashing. Or heck! Release am entire box nothing but legs and torsos
9:23 just got announced like yesterday
You hit it the nail on the head with more starting sets, I was looking at getting into warhammer after watching your videos but space marines and tyranids are not interesting I want some chaos
Your codex wishes is a great idea. I agree with you. Hope they listen to reason. There is a good chance I would get into it. But as it stands now, I use admire their models, but I can’t get to commit and take the plunge.
I dont know if it's a rumor or an exclusive to the UK but I eard GW were making soft covers codexes lore free but selling them the same price as the regular codexes
It's kinda weird to me that Leviathan got replaced by Pariah Nexus but there wasn't a Pariah Nexus starter box. Oh, and the cards are still unavailable
I'm just getting into 40k and I'm so confused. I painted an infernus marine in a games workshop then I bought some paints and painted the ork freebie of the month at home. But now I have no idea where to go, which minis should I get? which minis can I actually use? How many points are they worth? What do the captains do should I get one?
Maybe I'll just get a combat patrol? But I guess I'll need a second one to play a game but then what else do I need?
I've heard of the rule of cool and want to go with blood Angels but should I use the BA codex or just the regular codex and just paint my minis red.
The death company also looks cool but I can't see the box for sale anywhere are the different units or just the regular ones with different decals?
I was mindblown when i saw scouts for 80$
I bought them for 65 (60?) dollars about 6 months ago
When i saw they were being repackaged i thought "ah man, couldve just waited a bit" since i hadnt opened them
Soooo glad i bought them, jesus
GW really does outdo their insanity with pricing every time
I'd like to see them make understanding the release schedule easier for newer players, so I don't, I don't know, buy NOVITIATES 2 DAYS BEFORE THEY GET REMOVED FROM KILLTEAM. Still psyched to have them though, some of my favourite model designs for sororitas even if the face plate thing is a bit whack.
Inquisitor miniatures should come back
If the codex was that, it wouldve been the first thing I bought before plastic.
I have the uplifting primer , and find it baffling how much its now worth 😅, but it is a laugh to have
It’s kind of hilarious that the first thing you suggested is pretty much just what Start Collecting! boxes used to be. Combat Patrol has strayed so far from that original idea, what with the price hike and the streamlining towards a specific game mode with seperate rules from regular 40k, that it doesn’t really fulfill that initial role of a discount bunde to get started with anymore. Maybe in a few years GW will have to launch the Start Collecting Again! line… 😅
Games Workshop should do something like Friday Night Magic. Many players in Magic get their start with paper by just going to a draft or a prerelease. You don't need to know much about the game just the basic rules and if you don't most players will help you figure it out. it's cheap and you get everything you need there plus a starting point to grow your collection from.
Killteam or a similar small scale game would be the best option for that. Something that could be used to start at a few hundred points, even if they are pre painted by GW or some kind of rental army in the story. Literally anything to get this first proper experience that ISN'T the trial game, as it really doesn't do much.
They need to hurry up and get around to revamping all the old minis that are still kicking around in a bunch of the factions. I really wanna start some grey knights, but like most of their range is super old minis that just dont look good or scale properly.
Besides that, i dont think I've ever agreed with Jay more!
Multiple starter sets isnt feasible for physical stores
Dawg leviathan costs $400 now.
Scouts are expensive because they’re incredibly meta in the competitive scene. Again, the competitiveness of 40K is messing it up for other people.
I think alot of problems in 40k come down to the fact it's so expensive. I personally wouldn't mind if they had the exact same Combat Patrols, but for 30-40% less money. Same goes with the entire game. They only need to do drastic decisions, pull out monopose models, reimagine Codexes and similar solutions purely because it's getting harder and harder to justify paying such a steep price in my opinion.
If 40k was priced ~20-30% less than it is now, I think it would solve most, if not all, of the problems 40k faces for aquiring newer people into the hobby.
Middle earth sbg had some awesome info in the original release of their army book. Do you think the "push" of Warhammer tv causes this to not happen?
They should allow factions to exist in both The Old World and Age of Sigmar
Or just put the small booklet into the combat patrol, they wanted this format to "introduction" into the game as well as quick game
Just put the damn rule into the box and done, that's a good starter set.
Free online rules for all game modes. Get more people into the game would make more sales. And keep rules digital and up to date
Bring the 30k mechanicum models to 40k admech!
I JUST GOT THE KRIEG KILL TEAM 2 WEEKS AGO, AND THEY CANNED THEM NOOOOOO
Haven’t even gotten to play with them
How about putting a new WH Quest game like Black Fortress in the market again and this time don't repeat the blunders of Cursed City? I bet it would make a ton of fans happy and would fill the coffers of GW.
“greater good nickel” 🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️
Games Workshop could only make me happy by going private. Shareholders ruin everything for the consumer.
nice video!!
Surely it's the Art of Waaagghhh!
nice video!
The easy build kits didnt sell well at all. They had a bunch of them in early 8th and some of them are still available today because they just didnt sell at all.
So how would you feel if they made the codices as you describe but using AI art?
Personally I'm not a fan of those "two armies in one box" thing. Mostly u or your friend tend to think "do i really want the other army where my friend gets the army he really wants to get."
Combat patrol arent't that expensive imo, regulary u get one for like 100 bucks (never buy stuff in the official gw store).
I love your codex idea, but then they’d only sell one. You’d not need to buy the next edition. One tome to rule them all would mean one purchase and no more money in GW’s pocket.
Make combat patrol good
big thing is price and rules avalbility for me. if thay fixed ether one by ether lowering prices (not likely) or make all the rules basicly free not just the core rules (i would accept a payed app if it like $5 a month though not ideal) I would consider getting back into it.
also stop with the 3 year cycle make it 4 or 5 years instead.
Join Us In the Leagues Of Votann!!!
i only startet the 40k hobby during 9th edition so i'm fairly new: will there ever be a "regular" box of scouts or do i have to buy the killteam box if i want them for my army?
You'll have to buy the kill team box of scouts unless they get put into a larger value box (something like a combat patrol, battleforce, vs box)
It's probably going to be a kill team box for at least the next edition of 40k and kill team.
There's gonna be no way to get scouts other than to buy a box of them, I find it highly unlikely that they show up in the upcoming combat patrols, space wolves and grey knights will almost certainly not have them.
Combat patrol black templar has like a 1% chance of having them when they get there next box but highly unlikely because they have neophytes.
Even if they were in a discount box GW hikes up the price of those relatively and add charges 40$ for shoulder pads and weapon options.
I don't play space marines and there is a big space marine player Tax.
Whatever sales strategy they have boggles my mind. They leave so much money on the table.
I know you said dont mention price drop but honestly that is the crux if it. Gw is over charging to such a degree that its hard for a hobbyist to get into warhammer even with the starter sets. And with kill teams i think it is a mistake, if anything i think killteams should have a better value then regular sets. If you are looking at getting into warhammer through kill teams people look at the higher then average price and just immediately get turned off because they are als thinking how many similarly priced sets they would need to buy. This is whats happened with my friend group. They are interested in warhammer but the minis are too expensive. And to be clear it is not a case of not having disposable income as alot of them do spend a good deal of money on collectables. It is the value persl dollar they see when buying a gw kit.
Yo
what would make me happy would be free rules and codexes online. i think otherwise the hurdle for new players to start is too high. its been forever since i saw an actual kid play. whenever i see people play, they are mostly in theyre late 20's to 40's.
Rules should be free and available digital.
GW should fire all of the rules writers and lower their prices.
Isn't this standard for GW, 2-3 regular editions and than sunken cost fallacy is high enough to bump up prices based on popularity. Not to mention that Firstborn are just gone from Killteam now...............
I told you they price gouge. This is just the start.
Man their single models are $70+ AUD, I need a new company. Any suggestion please post them below Thanks!
In general, charging 80-100+ (aud) for a single special dude is just stupidly greedy.
