      You know I really like this comment. With guitar everyone focuses on shredding, pull offs, tapping but rhythm guitar is a total (overlooked) science. Clearly, Nile is just a towering giant of music and an incredible rhythm guitar player, he's like the Hendrix for rhythm players. Prince was just on another planet with his rhythm guitar playing, it's insanely good. David Byrne is a really good rhythm player. Love these guys, their so musical. If you're a right hand guitar player, it's in the right hand, rather than left hand, I reckon. And the other way round for a lefty (Hendrix was an astonishing left hand player and his left hand really was the one that made him number 1 player).

    I love when musicians sit down with their instruments and play and explain music. So much Genius is lost when you don't know what you're really listening too. All the songs he went over seem so much greater now.

      That is how you tell musicians whose souls are in their music versus the ones just on a stage to feel camaraderie or fame. Not to say there are no exceptions, but any musician who becomes worth his weight can break down and explain something, regardless of exactly how nerdily technical and filled with music-theory terms it is.
      There remains some ability to gift to you the conceptual understanding of this complex art, filled with light and shadow, every musician with their own personal struggles, in life and with certain aspects of the rules and guidelines of music and theory. So much color, never black and white, so many shades, and he's giving you some secrets on how to slip around, beat, break some of those rules and guides. The inner workings of an inner world.

      Aye I've always loved this kind of half-chord and single note funk/disco groove songs as a guitarist. On the surface it sounds simple but it's actually damn hard because it requires immense precision. If you ain't bang on time; bang on technique (no slip ups sounding off other strings or sloppy vamping); or bang on volume dynamics it just sounds horrible.

      @@davidallen346 no disrespect to this giant of music Nile Rodgers, or John Frusciente both of whom I really love, but check Prince, he was a total master of that funky, scratchy rhythm guitar playing. It's a real skill, maybe even more skilful than shredding, tapping, pull offs etc. David Byrne was also a great rhythm guitar player. It's the right hand (if you're right handed) that's the most important thing with this playing.

    As a guitarist myself I always look up to players that create the groove, the rhythm, Nile Rodger’s does that with abundance, yet most people rate guitarists for the solos and speed playing 😴😴. Nile is one of a kind and I love him for that. Much respect 🎸❤️

  • @CathyLahn
    @CathyLahn 3 месяца назад +1

    I've always loved him, and I'm a major ROCK player and lover. David Bowie, Black Sabbath, AC/DC, Jeff Beck, Zappa, etc., But....I've always adored soul and analog funk as well (JB, Funkadelic, Ohio Players, TOP, Bar-Kays, AWB, Kool & The Gang, etc.) jazz fusion too.
    And when I started playing in 1976 at age 10, both ROCK and FUNK were huge for me.
    So when I discovered Chic in '78-'79, it felt as natural as that maple fretboard that Nile Rodgers has abused with unbridled, joyous passion ever since. And man, those jazz elements made disco cool. Everybody Dance, Le Freak, Good Times, etc.
    No one could say "Disco Sucks" when they heard those killer, heartbreaking changes in "I Want Your Love" ...It's the sound of genuinely falling in love. The real shit.
    And then what he did for other acts such as Sister Sledge. And to me, their two greatest numbers, "He Is The Greatest Dancer" and "Lost in Music" is absolute magic! ✨
    So for me, this is nothing new. This is one of the greatest guitarists, and guitar innovators ever.
    Plus, a great guy too. You can't lose with Nile.
    Marc

    Nile Rodgers is simply the king of Funck. I follow him since the 70s, when I heard here in Brazil's successes in Chic.

    In a universe of effects-laden guitars and ambient fog, it’s pretty amazing to hear this composer break out huge harmonic ideas with barre chords. “Disguise all that chromatic movement”. Wow. A great of our time.

    Living legend. Nile is literally the most important active musician/producer/composer that happens to play guitar, ON THE PLANET!
