As a prospective aging photographer with an option to buy a friend’s Q in the next month this was a useful and insightful video. If the lack of weather sealing is the only deal breaker it will almost certainly end up in my bag… weather sealing? … get a shower cap, it’s cheaper😊. Thanks for a comprehensive review 👍.
Just picked up my Q a few weeks back. At first I loved the simplicity and I still do. What surprised me was the utility lurking just beneath the surface! I set my function button to swap profiles. So I can go from a fully manual and zone focused street machine .. straight over to an auto ISO minimum shutter speed 1/500 touch for focus/trigger setup. One perfect for never missing at F8/F11 with zone focus, and another for rarely missing with family and portraits. Simply not possible with other systems. And the colors SOOC are already just 🤌🤌
Funny when new version of a camera comes out, people think they cant take photos with the older version all of sudden. The fact that leica q is a good camera wont change because a newer version came out. On the contrary, it got even better cuz it got cheaper.
Ahhaha indeed! Although I’m curious to see what specs the announced Q3 will have, I don’t really want to go higher then 24mp. I think it’s a sweet spot.
I bought a black Q earlier this year and I love it. Its funny it's like when a new version of a phone comes out, people flock to buy one, as though the older one is now useless :) Keep em coming. Love from Scotland
Thanks a bunch! Just picked up a Q yesterday and have been paying around with it. It’s nice to hear your take on setting up the menu and custom buttons.
Thank you for the video ! It's really helpful & I too agree that the Q still takes stunning pictures without all the tech newness of the Q2 or Q3. So, really love it when people advocate that.
Ive been hovering over the “buy now” button and you, yes you, have caused me to press it. My wife will be contacting you in due course. Love your presentation
Jokes aside at first it takes time to get used to the simplicity especially if your coming from canon or sony mirrorless. Then I realized that most functions they sold me on I never used anyway.
@@3sixty2degres I used Pentax since 35 film days to a K1, decided to modernise and went Sony A7Riv and GM lenses. Out of curiosity I got a Fuji couple of weeks ago, that turned my life upside down. I loved using the Fuji but I always looked at the shots when I got home and thought if only I’d used my Sony. So, I want to size factor, I want the more manual film body type of experience but I want the image quality. I think Leica will give me that. At 72 I want one camera I can dedicate myself to.
Yes well the Q is a great option and prices have gone down since the q3. From Q to Q2 is really not a good idea but from Q to Q3 the difference is big enough but for the purpose of the Q series, the Q is perfect. In my opinion. Of course if your coming from mini computers with lenses such as Sony or canon it does take aehile to adapt to the lack of features, all you can do with this is take great photographs
really funny and so interesting. I just bought one like yours and can't wait to use it ! In photography , we need cameras to take pictures indeed and not videos. Useful though if necessary as it has an iOS to stabilise just in case. Anyway, now 10 years later, I got one and it really looks new.
I bought my Leica Q in 2016. it is the first digital camera that I had for that long. It is still a very competitive camera, especially when it comes to image quality. I will never trade it in. I would add a monochrom to it though. :-) btw Leica recommends to disable image stabilisation, as it may impact the quality of the image being taken.
Really enjoyed your video, thank you. Liked what you had to say about camera technology and marketing,. I am debating getting a used Leica Q, it would really suite my needs. I am a retired pro photographer and have owned some wonderful cameras over the years which I have sold to help pay for the next best camera and then really regretted selling them. I too had a lovely Yashica mat, gone now, Bronica ETRSI, Mamiya RZ, Mamiya Press all gone now bar one Canon F1n 35mm film. I had a collection of Canon EOS 5D`s up to Mk 3 and a collection of L series lenses. So I got rid/sold all my kit when I stopped working professionally other than the F1n as I said and a Fujifilm XPro1 which I have just sold and am seriously looking at the Q. I have never lost my passion for photography its just been curtailed somewhat by family situations. Thank you once again.
Wow yes that does sound like quite a collection over the years. I can’t tell you not to get a Q cause. Live mine very much and it is perfect for street photos and well pretty much anything I shoot, very light weight. Prices should start going down now that the q3 is out. I find there is not enough difference between q and q2 to upgrade. But from the q to q3 it is worth upgrading but I cannot justify that for now and my q still ticks flawlessly
My Q-P has been with me now for 5 yrs. 28 mm has its limitations (at 24MP) but the quality of this lens is unbelievable! I have some serious GFX gear, for work, but for everything else my Q takes the biscuit. I can’t sum it up any better than that!
Am a relatively new (and happy) user of this great camera as well. A long history with Leica, beginning with analogic M7 and the digital M8, then went to M9-P to finally sell everything at a Leica shop.... Rangefinder and getting older unfortunately. Recently came back to Leica with a nice small and compact X2 and now the Q. I don't regret a second this purchase either. Also made a great bargain in second hand. Thanks very much for the video.
Gee yes long relationship indeed. I was lucky enough to buy my Q before Peter McKinnon got his cause a week after his video about buying a Q2, prices went up. I also own the M4 and I have to get used to it cause it’s not as easy to use as a slr 35mm.
Feb 2024. Bought the Q. Plan is to sell my Fuji x100F, and then see what the soon coming VI will bring. Then decide which 🤔 Thx for the excellent video!
Yeah I bought the x-t5 cause I love film so I wanted to test out the simulations. And I’m back to having too many choices and options and settings… and always wondering if I could’ve set better 🙁

Be aware that now that the Q3 is out, maybe the Q2 will be roughly the same price as the Q was, worth comparing but if you get a good deal on the Q I say you will probably enjoy it very much. The only difference really with Q2 is the weather seal and the bigger MG Pixels... I personally enjoy the 24MGp
@@3sixty2degres Thanks for reply. I can't afford the Q3 and it would be a stretch for me to get the Q2. I believe the Q will be more than enough to meet my needs. As you state in your review, newer models being released don't make the previous model a bad camera. :)
I have a UV filter made by leica otherwise I never use filters, why buy great lens if we are to put a cheap glass over it, I've found that it takes a lot to scratch a lens, and the scratch has to be pretty big for it to show on the photo. For the sake of the argument, I scratch a lens of my minolta with a key and I never saw the difference on a photo. But that's me. I wouldn't buy dinner ware only for sundays and special occasions, to me every day is the perfect day to use what we've got.... Of course I won't go out of my way to break it either.... just no more careful with that than any other camera I use. was that about your question or I think I was just blabling on
I went from the Q to Q-P to Q2. ...and back to the Q for a great price. That Q2 file size was overkill for my street photography. Q-P was my favorite. I plan on picking up 2 or 3 when the prices come down after the Q3 comes out. Cheers! Will be my last digital Leicas.
Yes the file size of the Q2 is quite the investment new computer more memory… and you’re right it is a bit overkill for street photography. I now own a m4 which I really enjoy but I haven’t gotten much great photos, there is a bit of a learning curve with the rangefinders
