Always great advice and wonderful pics! One time when I was using my CL, I never turned the sound off and I had it set to auto focus mode. Hey Matt! Thank you for those tips. Last Saturday I went to Cologne with my daughter to visit CSD, which is a big 3 day party thing in the city for decades. I decided to grab my Q (Type116) to take some crowdy photos. It was a sunny day, so I tried something new. I've added a ND8 filter to the camera and set the Q to full automatic (ISO, time and aperture). Back home I checked the EXIF of the pictures and was surprised. The Q choosed lowest ISO (mostly ISO100) and aperture as wide as possible, without using electronic shutter (≤ 1/2000). So I've got bright day pics with a beautiful deep look an colours. I am currently in the sony system for wildlife but I want somthing simple but also inspiring to use and think this camera hits the mark. Hi Dave, yes the Leica Q is a lot of fun and gives beautiful images. You can contact me via the blog and request mobile presets and i'll make you some.
@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom that would be great, I’m still on the fence between the original q or the q2 and consuming as much content at the moment for both. I had the Leica Q for three years but sold it as it isn’t weather sealed and its easy to get dust on the sensor. Only solution - send it to Leica to clean. Cost £180.
Hi Matt. Thank you for your great and very helpful videos. Godox has introduced the XPROII-L flash trigger. According to the specification, the trigger is only compatible with the Q2. Do you have any experience with this controller and the Q1? Background: I use the Godox TT685F for my second system (Fuji). Thank you.😀
Hi, sorry I’ve not tried it yet. My Patreons said it’s ok from M10 onwards but didnt mention the Q. I’d imagine it will fire the flash but not all features working.

@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom Thanks for your answer, Matt. Yes, that's what you say in the video, but I don't get it: the WB only affects the JPEG file, not the RAW file, right ?
Hi Matt. I set my Leica Q to center focus, AFS and half pressed the shutter button to lock the focus, but when I re-adjust the photo frame, it always refocus again after i press the shutter to shoot, and re-focus to what in the center at the time. I Just would like to know if this happens to you also, and how to fix it.
About to blow your mind Matt. You are so used to using your CL with Manual lenses you forgot you can set it up precisely the same. Just whack a cheap ( not really) TL ens on the CL and you have two rapid-fire autofocus Leicas :)
Ha thanks! Yes. I don’t like the the AF point doesn’t centre on CL. I need it there in my times if need abs it’s usually off in a corner. The Q just behaves! Ha (probably down to the dumb user not the camera!)
Thanks for your insightful suggestions on the WB of my Q-P. As for its fixed 28 mm Summilux lens, I always wonder if the latest 28 mm Summicron M lens can offer better performance at similar aperture?
@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom The 28 mm Summicron is a 2.0 lens, all Summicrons are 2.0. The LUX is 1.4 and the Summarit range is from 2.4 to 2.5. The 28/2.0 is a great performer and under half the price of the Summilux if we talk M lenses. LUX lenses are superb, but for one f-stop extra to pay double the price? You need to have a solid economy. That said, your 13 tips are mostly the same settings I use on my Q for press photography. I shoot in JPEG + DNG. Keep on rolling.
Hi Matt, can you please tell me if the menu settings are visible through the EVF. The story is that I can get a cheap Q with a non working screen. I wouldn't bother about pictures control after taking a shot, like M10D, but I'm not sure with changing settings through EVF, thanks
Thanks Eugene! Yes i'd be amazed if it didn't as it fits every other Leica i've used. (i'll try to do a Q2 video as soon as I can get one to shoot.. coming months).
@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom Thanks for the great news! I really like godox flash, esp. a lot cheaper than leica flash! I'm using one for my Sony. Looking forward for your next video.
I have a strange problem with my Leica Q. With all controls (including the aperture) set to A the aperture remains fixed at 1.7, with the other controls (ISO, shutter speed) changing with light conditions. Manually changing the aperture using the aperture ring works well, but the automatic position doesn't seem to work. Any suggestions?
To have full control you need shutter speed set manually on the top of the camera, ISO set manually with auto ISO off and aperture set manually on the lens. The camera will often default to f1.7 if in A mode (from my experience)

@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom Touch AF = off. Then you just use the D-pad to change the focus point. Drove me nuts too
@@yopuivideo ah thanks I’ll have to try that!
Thanks for your insightful suggestions on the WB of my Q-P. As for its fixed 28 mm Summilux lens, I always wonder if the latest 28 mm Summicron M lens can offer better performance at similar aperture?
Thanks Wilfred, the Q2 lens is the same, the M 1.4 lens wins easily i'm told but i've not tested it as yet.
I wouldn't bother about pictures control after taking a shot, like M10D,
but I'm not sure with changing settings through EVF, thanks
Hi Frank, please contact me via the blog in a few days and I check for you
Thanks for the great tips, Matt!👏👏👏👍👍👍 Do u know whether the Godox flash with Nikon hotshoe will work for Q2?
Thanks Eugene! Yes i'd be amazed if it didn't as it fits every other Leica i've used. (i'll try to do a Q2 video as soon as I can get one to shoot.. coming months).
@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom Thanks for the great news! I really like godox flash, esp. a lot cheaper than leica flash! I'm using one for my Sony.
Looking forward for your next video.
@@eugeneli1952 thank you! Yes I love Godox too!
I’m a Fuji MF shooter but I love my Q2
Great, see the latest Q3 43 video :)
Which leica m lens hase the same image rendering as the leica q,the 28 summicron or elmarit?
Neither, the Q is a Summilux so you should look at Summilux lenses.
@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom Thanks for the answer.Besides the extra stop of light do you think these lenses cant produce the same rendering?
@@JJHills-ho3br no different optical design
@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom Thanks.
Your black n white photos have that journalistic look…what iso are your shooting at when your shooting indoors…that’s my biggest problem…thx
Thanks! It might be the look from adding my Leica Q preset pack. I just use whatever ISO I need, 400-800 maybe for inside.
Love my Q… haven’t made a penny with it😅
I’m sure you enjoy a more well balanced lifestyle where you don’t need to :) .. I bought it almost only for paid work so it makes me feel better ha.
Hi Matt what editing software software you use?
Lightroom + Photoshop
Thanks
I've always wondered why you get so close to the camera that I get nervous about not having a mask on your face?
Ha yes sorry got my old videos. The new ones I’m quite far back as a 90mm lens (like this vid)
Quoth Fry: “Shut up and take my money!”
Haha thanks James!
how are leica raw files compared to other brands
See some of my other videos. Leica DNG look better than many other RAW files I’ve seen but once I apply my presets I can get good images from both.
Not a fan, had 2 of these... can't beat a Leica M !
Thanks Nigel! I don’t hear that too often but agree if you don’t like 28mm then Ms win for sure.
