    Always great advice and wonderful pics! One time when I was using my CL, I never turned the sound off and I had it set to auto focus mode. As the camera made the sound that it was in focus, it attracted a little bird that sat in a tree next to me. Every time the camera "beeped", the bird would answer. I think it fell in love with the CL! LOL :D

    Hey Matt! Thank you for those tips. Last Saturday I went to Cologne with my daughter to visit CSD, which is a big 3 day party thing in the city for decades. I decided to grab my Q (Type116) to take some crowdy photos. It was a sunny day, so I tried something new. I've added a ND8 filter to the camera and set the Q to full automatic (ISO, time and aperture). Back home I checked the EXIF of the pictures and was surprised. The Q choosed lowest ISO (mostly ISO100) and aperture as wide as possible, without using electronic shutter (≤ 1/2000). So I've got bright day pics with a beautiful deep look an colours. I'm again amazed of that little smart camera …

    Hi Matt! Thanks for the great video 🙌🏻 Last time I remarked that I found the buffer to be very lacklustre. Also occasionally I observed the camera freezing up on me after a few consecutive shots. After I watched your recent video I saw that you shoot in dng only mode. I was shooting in dng + jpeg. I switched to dng only as well and now the buffer behaviour is much better and I hadn’t one freezup until now. Maybe this is helpful for some.
    One more thing. I found that the performance after wake-up was much better when low energy mode was off. Battery performance doesn’t seem to take a huge hit with the minimal sleep times 👍🏻
    Thanks again and glad you enjoy shooting the little black beauty 🤩

  • @RS-Amsterdam

    Good video Matt
    In addition:
    Since the Q series has a leaf shutter (and I shoot flash regularly and don't mind the max. sync speed around 1/200 as with focal plain cameras) one could think there is no first or rear curtain flash possibility to take great shots where movement is accentuated, but it still has that feature only technically it works a bit different but by setting it is easy.
    Second one: When taking shots with backlight (clear sky) or some sort of light in the frame that may become overexposed, I use the thumb button (back button) to set my exposure "to the right/light" by aiming on that "hot spot" or background sky (still using spot metering) and lock the exposure and take the shot. The subjects will be underexposed but that easily recovered from RAW in post.
    So now you can ALWAYS use spot metering for normal shots and occasional aim for the hot spots and you don't have to change the metering way every time.
    Just an idea.
    Thanks for sharing.

When you open those images in Lightroom mobile you can copy the settings and save it as a new preset within Lightroom mobile if that makes sense. I know this works as I’ve done it before my self to copy over presets when I had a computer.

    About to blow your mind Matt. You are so used to using your CL with Manual lenses you forgot you can set it up precisely the same. Just whack a cheap ( not really) TL ens on the CL and you have two rapid-fire autofocus Leicas :)

    • @MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom

      Ha thanks! Yes. I don’t like the the AF point doesn’t centre on CL. I need it there in my times if need abs it’s usually off in a corner. The Q just behaves! Ha (probably down to the dumb user not the camera!)

    Thanks for your insightful suggestions on the WB of my Q-P. As for its fixed 28 mm Summilux lens, I always wonder if the latest 28 mm Summicron M lens can offer better performance at similar aperture?

    • @MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom
      @MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom  2 года назад

      Thanks Wilfred, the Q2 lens is the same, the M 1.4 lens wins easily i'm told but i've not tested it as yet.

    • @paulsehstedt6275
      @paulsehstedt6275 2 года назад

      @@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom The 28 mm Summicron is a 2.0 lens, all Summicrons are 2.0. The LUX is 1.4 and the Summarit range is from 2.4 to 2.5. The 28/2.0 is a great performer and under half the price of the Summilux if we talk M lenses. LUX lenses are superb, but for one f-stop extra to pay double the price? You need to have a solid economy. That said, your 13 tips are mostly the same settings I use on my Q for press photography. I shoot in JPEG + DNG. Keep on rolling.

    Hi Matt, can you please tell me if the menu settings are visible through the EVF. The story is that I can get a cheap Q with a non working screen.
    I wouldn't bother about pictures control after taking a shot, like M10D,
    but I'm not sure with changing settings through EVF, thanks

    I have a strange problem with my Leica Q. With all controls (including the aperture) set to A the aperture remains fixed at 1.7, with the other controls (ISO, shutter speed) changing with light conditions. Manually changing the aperture using the aperture ring works well, but the automatic position doesn't seem to work. Any suggestions?

    • @MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom
      @MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom  Год назад

      To have full control you need shutter speed set manually on the top of the camera, ISO set manually with auto ISO off and aperture set manually on the lens. The camera will often default to f1.7 if in A mode (from my experience)
