    Possibly the finest Peel Session around (audio wise) from the most under-rated post punk band ever (well,apart from The Sound). These versions are so much better than what was put down on record. And they actually had their highest chart placing here in New Zealand with "Sleep No More" back in 1981,we loved the post punk sound,what with Joy Division hitting no.1 with "Love Will Tear Us Apart" and "Atmosphere" respectively.

      I never realized how much in common they had with The Sound before - I keep expecting "New Way of Life" to come up. Both great bands. I think The Sound’s records always had this raw intensity and the CS Angels records had too many industry hands on them. I have always respected them, but this recording is a revelation.

    Not a claim I'd make lightly but this and the last Ruts session (1980) may be the greatest sessions Peel ever broadcast. What a way to enter 1981!

    The Comsat Angels was the first band that really got me interested in music. I was 16 in 1980 and full of teenager 'angst and anger'. The music of CSA was a way for me to cope with all the mixed feelings I had at that time. I've been seeing them live a several times at De Koog, Noord-Scharwoude (in all places!) and Paradiso in Amsterdam. Their live gigs were awsome. Great memories!

    Be Brave... my favourite Comsats track.
    saw them live several times in the
    early 1980s, perhaps most notable
    in Brighton 1980 on the same bill
    with a band we thought had a stupid
    name which was U2. that bloody
    Bono , when he threw himself into
    the audience , his right elbow went
    into my mouth

    • @doriannritter2615
      @doriannritter2615 6 лет назад +2

      Cui Bono ? 😜

    • @BillyLow1000
      @BillyLow1000 5 лет назад +8

      Saw them on the same tour at 'The Kings Hall Stoke' fer a quid' ..What a band .. U2 were shocking, more posing than Julian Cope could ever manage !! Then the Comsats were were banned from America, as Comsat was the trade name of a US rocket project !

      Bono elbowed you?! 🤣

      @@thesoundlikechameleons2082 yep...it was a small place with a small audience and he fell backwards onto the crowd. He kinda slipped a bit sidewards and his right elbow made contact with my face... mostly my mouth. It was not a big impact and no damage was done, No blood.
      It looks like I put 1980 above, but now thinking about it I think it was maybe 1979, or maybe even 1978, (( I am getting old now, and I saw many hundreds of bands from 1977 - 1992, with all of the festivals and smaller gigs we went to a few times a week, it could be as many as a thousand bands?! Now it's only a few a year as I became physically disabled)).....it was close to the release of their album "Boy" I reckon, and we didn't know who they were as they were the support act, and we had gone Specifically to see The Comsat Angels, who were from Sheffield ...who we saw several times in the late 1970s and Very early 1980s. They had a few singles with the most notable one called "independence Day".
      I remember coming across a guy a year or two above me at school(he was either 15 or 16 I think) not long after that, who had the album Boy... which I thought was a very good album for the times. I lost interest with U2 later on as I didn't really like the album Joshua Tree. I was lucky to see several bands in small venues that Later on became massive.
      Some of the main ones we saw in little places several times before they got known was The Cure, The Psychedelic Furs, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest...and many more of those British hard rock bands. I'm a musician myself and met a few people who became famous, with Sting being possibly the most famous later on, it was at a Cimerons concert,..that Rastafarian playing bass was a character and his sound was awesome , and I got Very drunk with Fish from Marrilion after a Pallas gig in London. I played in many bands that never had any major success, but I was invited by Jaz to audition for Killing Joke when the huge presence that was Paul Raven went to America and Canada to play for the awesome bands that were Ministry , and Prong, and others. Jaz liked my unusual politics plus I can read music because I studied classical guitar to Grade 8, which he liked too. But I'm no bass player really , and I found Geordie rather intimidating...but I was kinda surprised by the invitation.
